For no reason other than to see out my considerable jet-lag come the

KING COREY AWARDS!

Worst Experienced Player Selected :
Tempting to name a certain man with a love of curries, but it would have to be Damian Houlihan. We hid him over a whole pre-season - no need! We were on the right track, we just should have waited an extra 2 years for Ryan...

Worst Inexperienced Player Selected :
Ben Atkins. Who you ask? Recruited 94, packs up his life and makes the big trip over to the glamour and lights of .. Arden Street. Fast-forward to Pre-season '95 - back to Tassie, son. Poor bugger.

I thought he'd make it:
Jason Daniltchenko. Hmmmm good size, CAN mark, CAN kick, leaps, tackles, good team man etc etc.. Last spotted selling cars in Bayswater and the proud father of a bouncing bubbie. What happened to his footy though?

Best trade:
The pile of sewerage we gave up to quietly get Glenn Freeborn would have to rate close to the best trade. Most other trades have been more even or tainted - ie - Winnie has not been fully fit or switched on for a year, Schwass is good at Sydney etc.. Blakey rates a close second but McCarthy did do some arsey things for a little while at Fitzroy. Nothing we lost for Freeborn amounted to anything - in turn we produced a skilled, goalkicking premiership player who decided to reward us by going to play for the Buckley Squad..

Worst trade:
Personally there's a very high profile candidate on the list right now.. But I'll give that time. Um... Not a trade as such but losing Romero and gaining Reynolds was a kind of lopsided deal.

Best draft selection:
Easy - Anthony Stevens. Apologies to King, Pickett, Harvey, Simpson et al.

What was all the fuss about?:
At every jumper presentation, Sam Kekovich virtually mounted Evan Hewitt. Denis Pagan seemed to want to preserve Hewitt's DNA for future generations. Carey spoke about Hewitt as the next messiah "I hope he lets me stay at centre-half forward" etc etc. Yet Evan was barely given game-time and he's now off in the land of churches and questionable family relationships. Good luck kid.

Dumbest De-listings:
Martin Pike. Don't care if he was given a bong as a teat at birth, the man's a damn good player. Damian Hardwick - ouch. Glenn Kilpatrick - ouch again.

He should have had just one game?:
Adam Hay. Moves from Perth at 18, sticks it out for 4 years, working hard and never complaining. Football has no place for sentiment but surely one game off the bench so he could tell his grandkiddies about it??

Worst Recruiting Year:
94. Essendon got Caracella, Moorcroft, Lloyd, Lucas, Blumfield. We got... um Cochrane.

I like him but:
The great man figures again. Cochrane is good and all but who did we pass up for him? (Editor's note - do not read if harbouring suicidal tendencies) --- Steven King, Adam Houlihan, Chad Morrison. Ouch x 3!

Awards Closed.

Good work King Corey, and to keep the thing rolling I will distribute my own awards, plagerising your hard work of course.

Worst Experienced Player Selected :
I would have to say that Brad Plain falls into this category, closely followed by the gem Houlihan and the brilliant, effervescent Keenan Reynolds - now weren't they some inspired selections.

Worst Inexperienced Player Selected :
I would have to say Mark Attard, the first player from the VSFL Under 18 Comp to play in the AFL. I played with him at the Ranges, and sadly Marky boy really went nowhere and last I heard was running around in the twos at East Ringwood.

I thought he'd make it:
Jason Daniltchenko. Hmmmm good size, CAN mark, CAN kick, leaps, tackles, good team man etc etc.. Last spotted selling cars in Bayswater and the proud father of a bouncing bubbie. What happened to his footy though?

Never thought Chenks had it, but I can confirm all of the above and the man played in a flag with the almighty Balwym Tigers in 2000, before having a rest for this year after hurting his knee again earlier this pre season.

For mine, I really thought McCarthy had it all, but weren't we oh so wrong - thank god the club knew what it was doing when the dill had the audacity to say its Carey or Me!!!!

Best trade:
Anything that got Adrian McAdam off our hands was a good trade - despite the fact it was for our worst experienced player selected.

Worst trade:
John Barnett from Hawthorn - one of the best twos players ever to grace the field. Paul Spargo to Brisbane was another Barry Crocker, given that we only gave him up in the expectation we would receive FIGJAM the year after.

Best draft selection:
You listed Pickett, and where he was plucked from was undoubtedly the best selection given the lateness of the selection.

What was all the fuss about?:
The Cockatoo Brothers - the next Krakouers - were they the worst footballers ever to don a North Melbourne guernsey at any level????

Dumbest De-listings:
Not delistings but marching orders - Scott Wynd - would he have been the missing link for all the failed experiments with the likes of Paul Bryce, Isachenko as T-Shirt Tommy would say, Micky Gallagher, Tim Bourke, Mark Lisle - the list is endless.

He should have had just one game?:
Agree wih Hay - I really though he could play, unfortunately forces far greater and far more learned than I disagreed.

Worst Recruiting Year:
Could it have been any worse????? I do believe we picked up Reynolds & Cochrane in the same year, although Harvey and Simpson, were also picked up in the same year from memory, correct me if I am wrong.

I like him but:
Tim Harrington. What on earth does he actually do except move tackling bags and collect footballs, yet he has been there for years.

That's the spirit man! If you come in 'n read the post peoples, at least drop a reply and leave some money on the till!

Simmo was '93 and Boomer in '95. But I did fail to mention we netted Danny Stevens in 94 also.. or was it not worth mentioning?

:D have'nt laughed so hard in ages thanks kc

other potential superstars that did'nt make it

brady anderson , looked good , played well in the ressies but when he sensed his was near the seniors he'd go to water.

#31 gallagher , don't remember his first name , looked like milton the monster , had the mobilty of the titanic

I would of thoght a very good trade was the McCartney- Stevens trade. Worked both ways for the 2 boys.

Also I last saw Danny Stevens at NickTheodosi cars right across the road from rooland.

Top guy and a good buddy, he lost the passion last year so was not going to continue anyway.

Brady is doing personal training in London but is into triathlon in a big way and is training for the BIG ONE in Hawaii KAILUA-KONA which is like 8 ½ + hours and 140.6 miles - he should be fit enough to compete in 2002/3 as he thought it would take him 2 years to be fit enough to complete. GO BRADY!!
