Re: King Gets Offered A Week

Jake's nephew passed away a few days ago. 9 months Old, born at 24 weeks. His name was Cody. Great that plenty of the players and staff were there.

Tragic. Expect us to be fired up this Saturday. This club is united and every sympathy to Jake and family. Hope Jake can play - for us, but more importantly for the family. Would be a very tough time

Was wondering what happened, horrible news and i really hope the club does unite and get up and going for the little fella.

My thoughts are with all of the people affected by this, i cannot think of anything worse. Makes me feel sick.

Not sure on the precise timing, but the little fella kept going for 2 hours after they turned off life support. I agree - couldn't think of anything worse

Obviously, would be far more King family and friends (were plenty of blokes from his suburban footy days there) there this weekend. Very hard to have a good wake with this sort of loss. A stirring Tigers victory would help immensely though

I have never hoped for a bloke to get off a charge as much as I have tonight

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

Gees thats terrible news....

I sought of feel sorry for Melbourne if he does get of.....

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

I hope the MRP shows some compassion for Jake!

My sincere condolences goes out to the King family.

The worst thing about it is he did nothing wrong, everything was self defence, they all freaking came at him.

Like with Nahas, 3 v 1 and jackson comes and pulls 2 off him and gives away a free kick

And Edwards been smashed behind the play, gives away a 50 metre penalty.

Stupid umpires!

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

If you look at the tape you'll see TV come in and impact kingy just as he throws the punch. That would be my angle - contact from elsewhere pushed the trajectory of his punch from McGrath's chest to his chin and increases its force

Complete accident to hit him in the gob

Confident

Come on you Tigers!!!!

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

Unless McGrath commented about it, I doubt his nephews death would have any bearing on the case, although I'd like to thnk that if he went in there and said "Let me play this week as a tribute then rub me out for the following week", they'd allow it (unlikely though it might be).

As for the case itself, Much as I might hope otherwise, I can't see how he's got much chance. The only real argument would be that the impact was below that required for a report, but the fact that he drew blood probably puts paid to that (still 'incidental contact' in terms of force, but it still meant a player had to leave the ground).

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

"Tigers to call Ash Mcgrath as a witness via telephone"

"Vision not clear. Trying to plead down to negligent conduct instead of reckless"

McGraths take interesting...

McGrath: Me and King were just bumping. Couple of jumper punches. One might have gone a bit high. Just punching each other back and forth. Doesn't recall which hand struck him. Let go when ball bounced. No history between pair. He's just one of those players who gets under your skin. Wanted to show him who was boss.

McGrath: Nothing else to it. Jumper punch that slipped.

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

I thought those quotes were from the phone call during tribunal. Apparently they were from the prior investigation...

McGrath on the phone, says TV and King pushed him into the ground. Says the punch wasnt deliberate because he wasnt wearing a mouthguard.

Looking good.

Umm it's the MRP.
Truth and common sense get overruled by emotion.
We shall see.
All evidence so far in King's favour so the MRP will have to do the Pinnochio act to suspend him.

That he was not wearing a mouthguard has no bearing on King's intent, nor could McGrath opine with authority as to whether the punch was deliberate as that term implies a state of mind

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

Tinney typical lawyer arguang the legal definition of negligent etc

It's kinda important. That said, this whole MRP system is reverse engineered. Start with the consequence and then work back to the act. The complete opposite of the criminal law system

Re: King Gets Offered A Week

Suspension Stands.

Failed to argue the charge down to negligent, 184.35 points stand. King out for a week with 84 points hanging over his head
