So Nadal didn't complain but you have the right to do the complaining for him??

he is not a maggot like roger, he doesnt complain.I am merely stating the facts, which rafa doesnt, cause he lost, he doesnt like excuses even if they are valid. I am yet to hear an argument where you cant prove that he had very little left in the tank for this tournament. This year, all the tourmaments that rafa played, he went deep into it (atleast semi finals, except rome and IW)...thats incredible and that burnt him out...fair dinkum, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out.

It's not facts when you are stating an opinion. You make it sound like you know more about how Nadal feels then Nadal himself.

I can't prove that Nadal didn't have little in the tank, nor can you prove he did. Fact. If Nadal won, none of this would have been mentioned.

please try to keep up...he was asked in the 1st round....are you feeling tired... he said....what do you think? the journalist said, yes...and then he said...he is not really feeling well but he still wants to win the US open.

If Nadal is tired it's his own fault (and cannot be used as an excuse), the style of game he plays is taxing and if he wants to have a little more gas in the tank he needs to either change up his game (e.g. adding more finesse/elegance/skill) or simply play fewer tournaments.

It was great to see the people’s champion back to doing what he does best – winning grand slams. I look forward to the great man overtaking Sampras in the near future.

Haha, TP at it again.

I could make the case for Roger Federer being incredible by playing and winning Olympic Gold and the US Open after heroically overcoming glandular fever! But I'm not that stupid. Every player is accountable for what the matches they choose to play, you shouldn't have to make excuses for them.

Nadal has surpassed Federer, based on this season.

You can argue all you like for hardcourts, but hardcourts does not equal tennis. Overall, Nadal has exceeded Federer this year, but I don't think people are willing to accept this.

On an aside, we have already seen Nadal (has been doing it fo a while though), Djokovic and Murray take the next step up toward the top of the world rankings, challenging for grand slams. They are surpassing the previous generation, with Federer pretty much the last one remaining from it. Do people think that Monfils has the potential to join the best of this new generation, next season?

well said...the armchair tennis experts here reckon hardcourt champion means he is the king of tennis, well well, how about grass and clay?? a year ago, grass court was supposed to be everyones favourite, but look, now how that has changed, rafa won wimbledon, all of a sudden, its SLOW, bounces too much...blah blah blah....and the best of them all...CLAY DOESNT COUNT...:D

Poor Rafa. He is playing over 80 matches and regularly going to semis and finals so tiredness is an excuse.....wait a minute. Federer has been doing it for years. Finalling on all surfaces everywhere. A serial finallist everywhere. how tired has he been all those years at number 1?

Of course rafe IS tired. His game is built around making up for techincal and skill limitations with pridigious heroic hard work and application. This WILL tire anyone but he did it to get to number one. if staying there is too tiring then his stay will be short but it'll be interesting to see how his overtaxed body stands up to defending all those points he won while roger and playing poorly and Murr was still developing into his rangy body.

this is what you said last year as well, that nole will overtake Nadal.Did it happen? no.Murray has the kind of game which can trouble him but murray too error prone. Nadal is now the world number 1 and the best player in the world... accept it and move on :)

Rafa himself a few months ago said that the logic was that Djokovic would pass him so I was not alone though both rafa and I were proved ( for the moment anyway) wrong

Rafa is no.1 but is not the best player in the world. The best player in the world is Roger Federer. This is why Rafa before the NY final said that Federer is always favourite. "Roger is still Roger...always the favourite" was a quote in the london times.

Rafa knows his tennis.

Tiger woods during the years has on occasion lost no.1 status. McEnroe did, Sampras often did to Agassi but agassi was not as good as Sampras and wouldn't claim to be. Rafa spending a few months at no1 does not make him better. there is a long line of Greats being ousted by very goods in most sports. That is what has happened in tennis. An all time great has been ousted by a very very good. we'll see how long rafa lasts.

really? i read most rafa articles anyway and i find that hard to believe, can you put up a link or something?? How can a player say...oh player XYZ will pass me in 2 months?? thats ridiculous, sorry i dont believe that.

Rafa has respect for tennis players, unlike that maggot federer who pays no respect to his opponents, just read the most hated tennis player thread and you will know that i am not alone in this...federer is absolutely ****wit when he loses ....FACT!

I am not saying who is better, i am saying in 2008 rafa is the best...this is his year and he is number 1, better than your federer...accept it and move on. Why are you being so diffcult? 2008 was rafas year, he beat federer 3 times, nole 3 times and muzza 3 times as well. This year he is the number 1, what happens next year is pure speculation...so rafa is number 1 as of now :)

Federer has of course had the better career, but I fail to see how anyone can think Federer is currently the better player, based on the 2008 season.

It's near fact that Nadal is the player of the season in my honest opinion.

84 matches this year, including some 4 hour battles, more than anyone this year. How is that an excuse? he said...coming into this tournament that he is not feeling well and is tired, before the tournament started. How is that an excuse? he was way below par in that match against Murray, at one stage he was gasping for oxygen.Murray played well and deserved to win on that day, no doubt, however that is not an excuse..its a FACT

Playing 84 matches would make you tired - but it would also help you get No1. Maybe if he played a bit less he would be less tired - but then maybe he wouldn't be No1. TP = loser

PS - You have an excuse - you're a dcikhead
