Wangas played back pocket didn't he crave'sta?;)

I think he was being used more as a forward towards the end of his time at Essendon...the 96 finals series was a massive one for him...almost got us through off his own boot...

not trying to start this thread up again.......maybe a finsh.

But i have came to the conclusion that IF gavin Wanganeen had of stayed at the Dons and played 320 instead of the 127 he did play,he would have surpassed the lot...Reynolds,Hird,Watson..etc..

Big call, but he would have done more with us than what PA achieved.

Port wouldn't have won that flag except for the talent of the great ........................Gavin Wanganeen.:)

"IF" your aunt maud had balls she would be your uncle

Outsiders perspective - whilst i respect your right to pay homage to the bloke ... and yes , had some great years at the bombers ... i would not even mention him in the same breath as ML or JH ... one thing nobs ... "character"

GW has been a perpetrator of some of the bigger dog acts i have ever seen on the footy field in the last ten years .... sniper.

Courageous ... yes ... at times .

But weak and gutless at times ... guilty on both charges .

I won`t argue it because you know damn well it is true .

as for the acting .. well ... LMAOOO ... not going to get into the Lloydy thing because that is not the point of this discussion but Wanganeen perfected the art-form and is what all footy thespians aspire too . :thumbsu:

Gavin Wanganeen has been a great footballer , that is not in question , but i would not hold a candle to him and to the other two afformentioned .

Wash your mouth out with soap

yes, wangas was a tad dirtyfied...but so was Ted Whitten...nobody ever talks about the great mans off the ball antics..

all they talk about is how Teddy was one of the greats...:thumbsu:

other top dirty players.........

david rys-jones,dermi,Dipper,...heaps of them...wanganeen would have brought us 2-3 extra flags since 93',tiger:D

Theres dirty champions and Non-dirty champs.eg...

Non -Hird,Reynolds,Madden,Maurice,Tuck,Skilton

Dirty- wangas,dyer,watson,Francis Bourke

francis in non dirty sorry.......:o

Better come up with some better bait than that Rexy

No bait,Baldrick:D

Other dirty playing champions-Lockett,Ablett,Mathews,Worsfold,Fetcher,Wayne Carey,Wayne Swass,Wayne Campbell........the list goes on my friend.

Wanganeen was dirty to an extent, but the champion player he is overides that flaw...tiger;)

Despite this opinion, h wasnt reknowned as a dirty player. Long was quite disliked amongst opposition supporters, moreso than Wanganeen.

Regardless, not many players have a clean sheet against their name. Champions and non-champions alike, verbal trash talking is a part of professional sport as a means of getting the edge over an opponent. Do we call them dirty also??

Where does Fletch sit in all of this?

oh..his not that dirty.sticking the leg out etc...not on the same level as others. Its just to give Richmonds IDGAF some stick.

he has at me for 15 years about Wanganeen.Doesn't rate him.We do But!

I didn't mean in the dirty stakes, I meant in the rankings of our best players.

He's obviously not in the top class (Hird, Reynolds, Coleman, Madden etc), is he in that next class with TD and the likes?

He's in the top group I've seen.

Sorry, too many beers watchin the CUP. Pop Rock came second Dohh!

Fletch is a Champion. Such a major player in 2000.

When he's out,I stress about winning ,put it that way.

Love him. His old man was the first Essendon player I knew after going to my first match back in 77 or 78:thumbsu:

Lucky you, busted foot, stuck in a moon boot and can hardly walk.

Throw in a cold, constant text messages and phone calls from drunken mates and the fact that I was on Pop Rock. Worst Cup Day ever.

Yes its been about 15 years since i picked a winner at the Cup.
that grey horse in the rain,92'? or 91'.

did a job this morning, finished at 11.30,raced down to my missus work, watched the race, cursed Oliver, came home and cracked a stubbie!
Its just not the same watchin the race in WA. They don't really get into it.
Nice to see the melb weather came good again:rolleyes:

Busted foot hey! Wasn't from trying to work out a cryptic clue and u tripping over some stuff to get your bomber book out;)

Nah, cricket injury. Trying to cram six weeks rehab into three and a bit, so it's limited my Spring Carnival.

Back on topic, IMO Fletch is in the group that contains the likes of Daniher, Harvs and probably above the likes of Bomber, Mercs, Longy, Baker.

yep...he is in that group for sure. Mercs is the only one I put in the elite class along with Hirdy with his skills etc.....but of course he didn't really play that huge slab of games that the greats have.Baker is the same.

Fletcher at full back in 93'! Has there ever been such a young kid who has played so well in a GF? Sure Kernahan kicked a few,but I remember thinking before the game...he's gunna kill Fletcher.

But at just 17,he did the job and did it well. As i said, for years,if Dustin is out,I almost pencil in a loss every time. Such an important player for us.
I shudder at the thought of replacing him:o

that would be Subzero nomad

... get your facts straight ... never said Wanganeen was "not" a great player , have acknowledged this on this thread .... just his filthyness that i am bringing to the fore in this debate .

...Nobby ... so you have viewed every game he played for the Power and are in a position to comment on his scruples for the whole of his career ?

I feel you are not in this position and are merely refusing to remove those rose-coloured glasses that you have had fused to your bonse since 93 .

He was even more dirty at Port and I still love him. That Port GF win,he deserved to be the star of the show, capped off a great career.

So,had about 10 cans and on your 3rd bourban het tiger?:D Your the denis Cometti of BF:D Smooth words that roll off the tongue.....;)
