GB to face New Zealand in Gillette Fusion Test Series
Saturday, 3rd March 2007

The RFL has confirmed the venues for this autumn’s Gillette Fusion Test Series between Great Britain and New Zealand, as well as the date and venue of a unique fixture to celebrate the centenary of international rugby league competition.

The three-match series between Great Britain and New Zealand will be staged at Huddersfield Giants’ Galpharm Stadium, Hull FC’s Kingston Communications Stadium and Wigan Warriors’ JJB Stadium.

All three stadia have previously successfully hosted rugby league Test matches and have proved extremely popular with supporters.

Prior to the series starting, the Gillette Fusion Centenary International will take place at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The match will celebrate the fact that international competition between rugby league nations began 100 years ago this year, when a team representing New Zealand toured the UK and played against a side representing clubs in the Northern Union.

The so-called New Zealand ‘All Golds’ also selected one guest Australian player who toured with them.

Indications from the Southern Hemisphere are that Australian legend Andrew Johns has accepted the invitation to take on this role to recreate what is a fascinating piece of sporting history.

The full details of this exciting fixture will be released in due course.
The RFL’s chief operating officer Nigel Wood said: “The venues for the Gillette Fusion Test Series are all first-class stadia which offer excellent facilities for our spectators and provide tremendously atmospheric backdrops for intense international competition.”
Wood added: “The Gillette Fusion Centenary International will create a chance for supporters to be part of a unique event which recreates sporting history and is an opportunity to witness the modern-day equivalent of the All Golds Tour featuring Dally Messenger.

"We look forward to announcing further details of our exciting plans for this fixture.”

Leading global grooming brand Gillette will continue its sponsorship of the Great Britain team and separately of the sport’s autumn international programme.

Details of ticket availability for the Gillette Fusion Test Series and the Gillette Fusion Centenary International will be confirmed in due course via the official rugby league ticket website: www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk

Gillette Fusion Centenary International:
Saturday 20th October 2007
Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington

The Gillette Fusion Test Series:
Saturday 27th October 2007 – First Test
The Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield
Saturday 3rd November 2007 - Second Test
Kingston Communications Stadium, Hull
Saturday 10th November 2007 - Third Test
JJB Stadium, Wigan
........................................................................................................

I'm a bit disappointed with Halliwell Jones Stadium being the location for the Centenary International. That wouldn't hold too many I wouldn't think. Also, why didn't London get Test Match?

Can anyone get me the capacities of these 4 grounds?

That ridiculous. There should be an absolute minimum capacity of 20,000.

I did think Hull held more then 17,000 though.

The Centenary match would have drew atleast 30,000

The people that run RL know they can attract a huge crowd for the centenary game ,but for some silly reason they prefer playing it in a much smaller stadium.

I know if I was running the joint, it will be played no where else but Wembley....

I agree and they have decided to stick with the northern area of England despite the massive growth of rugby league in the south, especially London and surrounding areas. I just can't understand it.

Don't know where you got your figures for Huddersfield and Hull from....

But here are the official figures of each venue

Warrington - 14,206
Huddersfield - 24,500
Hull - 25,404
Wigan - 24,826

As for why they picked these venue, maybe it what they believe they think they will get for each game, in particular the game at Warrington. Don't get me wrong I would love to get a Test match a Wembley once again, but are you sure you could fill 90,000 seats for that match???

I thought Hull held more then 17,000. That isn't too bad with the capacities of nearly 25,00 for each.

re; Wembley. No I don't think it would sell out but I'm sure it would sell more then 14,000 tickets. I'd be confident of 40,000 atleast with Johnsy playing.

Then play the game at Ellend Road in Leeds. But then I doubt an exhibition match would be a bigger draw than a Test match even with Johnsy playing.

I wish it would be moved to Leeds or somewhere with a larger capacity. The Pommys love Joey, I would be very surprised if 40,000 didn't turn up to watch him play.

Wembley probably wont be ready .They have been building it for 8 years some Australian firm .

I think If Aus had been touring they may have used Old Trafford and Elland Rd
