What about Tom Lynch from the Aints?

He had a great first year & I think start of 2nd? So much so I could not understand the Aints not playing him.

I know he's tailed off in the last 18 months or so but he was very exciting early on. You know when he came from the TAC cup he was good, it took 18 months for the Aints to drag him down.:p
Perhaps we could drag him back up.:D

Would be cheap & can play 3 rd tall.
(Yes i know he's been linked to the Crows I think.)

Would be very happy now that Ross is gone.

Was a very high pick. Around that age where he "should be" breaking out.

You are right, Adelaide are looking at Lynch and if available would be the team with the currency to get him - since so many of their players are requesting trade and are leaving which most probably will mean picks in return.

It's starting to sound most like we need to start clearing out these depth players to clear salary cap space rather than add more.

So outside of Clarke+Elliot I don't think we will be trading into other players and most likely will be trading exclusively for picks - if indeed we clear out the likes of McCarthy, Goldsack or Macaffer.

I have also heard we are keen on Lewis Stevenson from West Coast but out of those 3 I don't really see us getting many more players

IIRC Lynch had hamstring troubles this year which kept him out of the side? or was that Tom Walsh?

Thoughts on Mature Rooking Broc McAuley from the Lions and maybe even Carl Peterson (ex-Hawks)?

I thought McAuley showed a little bit in the few games he played whilst Leuy was injured. Wouldn't cost us anything and could be good to see develop with and have future currency.

Also, Peterson has been ripping it up at Old Carey in the VAFA premier division. Highly talented and would be a good replacement for Brad Dick. Did have off field issues at the time of the Hawks delisting, but apparently is turning it around.

What is all this talk of clearing out players? Buckley, Goldsack and Macaffer are hardly players to be cleared out, as though they are mucus secretions or hard rubbish items. People find it all too easy at this time of year to treat players as dispensable commodities but expect the undivided loyalty of those same players to the club.

With Peterson talent and ability were never issue. The issues have always been that he wouldn't turn up to training on time, wouldn't turn up to team meeting, not turning up to recovery. Not coming back in the expected condition. Those types of things. Under Buckley any issues like this = stay away. He'll be after more motivated professionals.

McCauley is ok. But really in that Callum Sinclair basket of - ok backup ruck who can play forward and come into the side if necessary. But probably not the option you want to persist with long term because optimally you'd want better.

As that new ruck I'd much rather a Tom Downie or Mitch Brewer through the draft. Can't play now as a McCauley or Sinclair can. But Downie + Brewer have good chances of developing into serious rucks at the next level, and won't cost the world through the draft.
Really hope Buckley values and seeks quality ruckmen more than Mick does.. Quality ruckmen win premierships.

It's not so much they are unwanted. But there is talk we won't be able to retain all of Krakouer, Toovey and Dawes among others. Also Pendlebury is at risk of moving to GWS since he only signed that 1 yr contract and GWS have a two year signing window. So room needs to be there to re-sign him.
Personally don't know how bad the salary cap situation is since I don't have the list of contracts, how much is earned by each player and how much is left. But if nearly as bad as some recent articles are suggesting, we might need to move on Macaffer and Goldsack along with McCarthy and Buckley so that we can retain our best players.

Not sure, haven't followed him much since the switch to the HBF. Threw his name out there as i do remember him playing to a high level when he first arrived but then went of my radar a yr or so later.

Thanks Knight, you are probably right if we are having cap issues.

I have to stop skimming when I read. I read Clarke+Elliot as Hoskin Elliot.
Did a bit of a double take.

Saw an article on superfooty about it.

Not at all pleased. We just need to work out a way to retain Toovey, even if it means delisting/ trading others on to make room.

Interestingly Dawes + Toovey would probably be enough to get O'Meara - and a trade of both would without a doubt clear out any necessary salary cap space to re-sign Pendles next year.
But the short term cost of losing this pair would be massive and cost us probably any premierships over the next 2-3 years because neither player can be easily replaced.
Would be a very brave move! But you almost have to consider it if the salary cap situation is really this bad.

Don't think we will select so many through the draft this year. We'll probably only have 1-2 live picks (with probably Witts and possibly Bolton as the other to make the required 3) - reason being it's a moderately weak draft and as a club from reports don't rate it.

But otherwise not a bad attempt and likely reasonably close.

I heard Dawes has signed?, if so we can't trade him for atleast 12 months.

he also said that we would be very quiet during trade week. Not sure if im happy or not with that

If quiet = we get Marty + a young kid + keep all our required players then we should all do a happy dance :)

Marty is back now.

Pick 25 for Clarke + Elliot + Pick 67 is a done deal.

Really look forward to seeing what Clarke can produce and whether he can break into our side. Wouldn't mind him as an offensive wing/hff.

Elliot is a handy piece and fills a need which is the idea behind that - ok Dick replacement and is that tackling forward. Solid depth quality player at this stage who could step into the side if needed.

Re: Knightmare's 2011 List Management Thread

Just a question for anyone who has followed Simon Buckley closely this year...

I went to pretty much every Collingwood game in Melbourne and watched all other on TV and in hindsight, I can only picture Buckley kicking the ball or doing something very silly under pressure.

My question is, was he a good defender? Has he got 1-on-1 abilities equal to any of our other defenders?

Secondly, I just don't see him as a defender. From what I have seen, has speed and kicking skills, may Nathan Buckley - under kicking-at-a-premium gameplan - test him out on a wing in the preseason/a few early games? We all know what Collingwood can do with spud players and speed, bulk and kicking skills aint a bad canvas to work with.

His kicking is a weapon and he can accumulate, but he leaks like a faucet and just doesn't seem to have any footy smarts

His defensive and 1 on 1 skills are pretty good. Can take a good grab and stop his opponent getting the ball. It's his decision making that lets him down, especially under pressure.

On another note I was reading that McCarthy wants to stay at the Pies.

Re: Knightmare's 2011 List Management Thread

Nice thanks mate.

I'm guessing his defensive skills would not equate to that of Toovey's though.

Where did you read this?

Wouldn't surprise me.
He works with his mates, is an average player at best, getting paid probably $100K+ per year, doesn't have to bust his balls every week in the AFL. Life couldn't be sweeter.

Let's face it, he's just not that good and if youw ere not that good at your job to ever make it to the big time, wouldn't you want to just hang around and make more money than anyone else your age who doesn't play AFL.
