Sebastian Ross from North Ballarat? :p

As I said I'm looking forward to seeing him test, because he is a little vanilla in my humble opinion. Nothing wrong with his game, from all reports is a pretty switched on guy who works hard so no doubt a team will like that.

I reckon he'll be a good player, just maybe not a great one. And what can I say, I like my high risk/high reward players. Kids like Ellis-Yolmen and Ah Chee don't have anywhere near his profile, but could be genuine stars in a few years.

It's interesting that we are increasingly seperating with our views as we come closer to the draft rather than coming together in consensus over most prospects.

Ross, Markworth, Grigg, Docherty are some I rate considerably higher while you rate: Waldhuter, Ellis-Yolmen, AhChee, Schade and Murray allot higher than I think they should go.

Not a bad thing.

It's going to be an interesting draft. Unclear beyond the first round. But interesting.

Well I don't think Kerridge would be worth a first rounder either.

I do like Jason Williams and Jimmy Webster though. :)

From people at Essendon, they have been really impressed with Sam in his few games with Bendigo (as the 23rd man rule allows in the VFL) so would not surprise me to see his name called out at pick 19 at all.

We were heavily linked to Atley as that type of player we need. Would you guys say that Kerridge has had a better year than what Atley had for the Bushrangers last year? As they both are apparently that "Chris Judd, explosive away from the pack" type of player.

Agree with Chris. Probably more of a 2nd rounder.

Is only attending state screenings. So not the interest in him of some of the higher rated prospects.

But can obviously play and didn't look out of place for Bendigo. But there are probably some higher level talents.

This draft really isn't as weak as people continue to make out with that top end.

Essendon could do worse than take a Markworth, Grigg, McKenzie, Crozier, Adams, D.Smith or Nelson.

Can't say I really see that explosiveness from Kerridge. I've always seen him more as a solid ball winner, in the Rischitelli mould.

Personally, if I were Essendon I would go for talent in the first round (Kersten, Crozier) and go safer after that. Ah, who am I kidding, I'd just go for risky talent the whole way through.

Yeah, I agree, RE: draft isnt as weak as people make it out to be.

Like I said in my earlier post, think we are just building for depth now and not for those high risk/high reward types like Crozier.

Building this depth we should be looking at decent sized midfielders (that 185cm + mark) so I would like to hope we can add a Grigg but seriously doubt he would slip through to 19!.!

I am likeing what I see and hear of Markworth, but we already seem to have a few best 22 3rd tall forward types in Crameri, Monfries and to a lesser extent Reimers.

Could Markworth push these guys out quickly as Essendon supporters have said, with Monfries and even Reimers in the team we arent going to be going forwards any time quickly.

One last thing, how close do you think Ross and Kerridge is? could we snare both of them with our second (pick 41) and 3rd round (57) picks then or are we going to have to find another pick through trading to snare them both inside the top 50?

To be honest I really like Crozier. Think his career will start a bit like Dale Thomas. Show some early flashes. But come season 4 or so really break out into a quality player - not the same quality, but develop into something quality. But for Ess Markworth/Grigg/McKenzie would be the 3 I would really hope for most.

Markworth is nothing like any of your current forwards. Long term think of him as probably more of a mid. What stands out is his delivery to forwards - think he is highest rated in goals assists?
Personally think of him as the Nat Fyfe of this draft. Similar type. Won't be as good but is that type who can play mid or forward flank to a very high standard. Ball use + athleticism are features. AFL IQ since he is still learning the game is a bit of a work in progress - but will come and quickly I expect. Big wrap for the kid.

Grigg I think would be a nice fit next to Watson. Isn't so much the massive hard inside ball winner. But with his long kicking for an inside player would be a really nice fit and compliment to go with your current midfield group.

Would take Ross over Kerridge. Ball use better. Maybe Kerridge slides - don't discount the possibility. But Ross is unlikely to slide further than the 2nd round so if you want him and he is still available - take him there and then.

Do u really think Grigg will last to 14 Knighter? Would love him at Richmond.

Is it just me or does the whole weak draft thing often come out early in the year and as the year progresses more talent is exposed? Doesn't seem like a bad crop at all.

Also, apparently Verrier is of interest to us. Can u give me a little more info on him if u have any?

Grigg is a chance if Adelaide decide on someone else. Not a super athlete so probably won't test all that well. Chance.

This year is limited in terms of top end KPPs. Think some of the rucks this year are under-rated and could long term develop into something. Top 10 good. Top 20 good. After about 3rd round doesn't go all that deep. But not a terrible draft and there will be some really good players coming out of this draft.

Verrier is worth a look. Maybe in the 3rd round worth a look if still available for Richmond. Talent is there. Quick. Very good by foot. Tackles. Looks dangerous. Is a Fwd/mid. Am critical of ball winning ability. Doesn't do enough. Also work rate probably not quite at the level I'd like for it to be. But there's allot to work with.

Couple of questions on Brad Mckenzie who I am convinced we will pick up unless Grigg is still available.

1. Is he related to Trent Mckenzie from the Suns?? Heard he is almost a clone of him.

2. How would you rate his inside game, he seems more of a flanker/winger but could he be used in the guts??

Cheers

Sounds like he would be worth the punt with a 3rd rounder. From our point of view we need Morris to be a 4th rounder or later.

Think we will play hard ball with Maric too and favour a player swap. We have 2 players wanting out Connors/McGuane. Will offer them up or a 3rd rounder or push to PSD.

One other im keen on is Waldhuter as a 2nd rounder. We desperately need some inside grunt mids. You have him as a 3rd and Chris has him as a 1st. So ill be interested to see where he goes. Is there much wrong with his game for u to have him so low?

Don't think he is related to Gold Coast's McKenzie. Is an SA boy while Trent is a Vic boy. Probably not as athletic as Trent and while he can kick the thing isn't quite at the Trent level penetration.

Can play some inside. Think of him as a versatile type. Can play mid. Can play flank. I expect he will do a bit of everything at the next level.

Didn't have a big champs - didn't get nearly the numbers I'd expected. Fairly mature body and has been good in recent years - so possibly questionable upside. Strong attack on the footy. Ball use good. More of a mid draft choice for mine. From 2nd round should get consideration but don't regard him as a 1st round talent.

When all of a sudden did Brisbane turn into Hobart what's with all the Tasmainians we might pick one if there avilable at our picks really want a tall defender like Andrew Bosely if avilable and Geelong dont take him as a future replacement for Scarlett. And it's good to see you finally rate Toby green as a top ten pick really want him at Brisbane.

Don't regard Greene a top 10 pick on quality - as my power ratings suggest.

Might find himself inside the top 10 on draft day. But no lock.

Still shuffling my picks around. So expect some movement still. Depending on how he goes tomorrow and how he tests will probably find himself somewhere in the teens.

Boseley I don't regard a 1st rounder. Probably more of a 2nd rounder. Has done some good defensive jobs and offensively improving with his rebound that he adds with that ability to get those marks off opposition kicks. But ball use isn't great. Physically still very thin - will be interesting to see if he develops into full KPP size. Think he will always be on the thin size and struggle against some of the bigger quality key forwards.

Brisbane have enjoyed their Tasmanians in recent seasons. Ryan Harwood. Josh Green. Probably a couple of other recent ones. Maybe you take another. Maybe not. Just shows you will likely be looking at one or two Tasmanians.

hey Knight, I was reading a interesting article on Amos Frank{/b] who is a 22-year-old from the Aboriginal community of Fregon - 1300km northwest of Adelaide.

have you heard much about him, and if so with the combination of Jurrahs success at the demons and the "skinny draft" do you think he will get selected in the national draft or more a Rookie draft option?

Because recruiters don't always take the 'best available'.

Also worth stating that KM's rankings are his opinion, not all underage footy experts and recruiters will have the same opinions.

What do we think of Ben de Rue (possible sic)?

Was great for Sandringham today.

Hey Knightmare, not sure if this has been asked but if Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar and Jeremy Cameron weren't taken by GWS where would you have them in this draft?

I'm sure people would be rating this draft much higher if they were in it.

Dont forget about Hampton, Even Miles is gonna be a player

Where do you see Fletcher Roberts going in the draft was really impressive today and the reason Sandringham won the grand final is he more of a forward than a ruckman

Was very good today! Really comes into draft considerations after that effort. Full marks for doing it on the big stage in the most important game of the year! Lifted when his team needed him.
Still don't view him as an early draft choice, but certainly likely to go in the main draft now after being viewed more as a rookie choice before today.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like an interesting prospect. Haven't seen footage. Suspect he is probably more of a pre season draft/ rookie prospect. But worth a chance if he is half as talented as suggested.

Toby Greene 34 disposals in the TAC Cup Grand Final. Why is he a chance to be Top 10 if you think he is only ranked 21 on your Power Ranking.

Had a great final. That's what I was expecting from him.
My power rankings as ThePuppetMaster mentions below is more my person ratings as to where I would be comfortable taking them based on how good I think they will be at the next level taking into consideration the likelihood that they will reach that level.

While the actual draft is where I think players will actually go on draft day. So for example Michael Bussey because of his poor performances throughout the year I view as more of a rookie prospect and I personally wouldn't be comfortable picking him in the main draft - doesn't seem hugely motivated and improvement from 2010 has been poor considering my expectations coming into the season.
But this said ALLOT of other recruiters think he has the potential to make it at AFL level and there are more than just a couple of clubs who might be looking at him in the 2nd or 3rd round, so I'm not going to let my views bias my prediction of where players get drafted.

Because recruiters don't always take the 'best available'.

Don't mind Ben Darrou. Hope he gets a shot. Not a type typically drafted because he is slightly short for a KPD, but is a really mature physically which completely goes against the grain. Rate him because he is a team player and does the team thing consistantly whether it be bumps off the ball or blocking for team mates. Has some versatility. Think maybe he is a little taller than 190cm which will work to his advantage.

I'm sure people would be rating this draft much higher if they were in it.

All would go top 10 - Shiel probably no.1. GWS will be an incredibly good side and suspect they will all things said and done end up with more premierships than Gold Coast.

Dont forget about Hampton, Even Miles is gonna be a player

Hampton would be top 10 - serious talent.

Miles would have been a 1st rounder last year.

So GWS will be a serious team. Midfield looks unbelieveable! Won't take more than 3-4 years for them to become contenders.
