True story -

Talking to some old timers at Norwood a couple of months back about a few of the young prospects at the club. These blokes have been standing on the terraces at SANFL games for decades so they'd have a fair idea what makes a player.

I was at The Parade for a Friday night game, and noticed Grigg was playing twos, while Luke Brown, Tom Langford and Cam Shenton (ok know he's a bit older, but generating a bit of talk) were in the seniors that night. When asked why Grigg wasn't in there with them, the old blokes replied 'He's not good enough'.
Don't Port/Adelaide have the same troubles with their younger guys? ie Can't convince the SANFL sides to play young talented kids if there's an established bloke in the way?

Not from what I've seen this year. Been plenty of kids getting an opportunity.

Luke Brown, for example, was close to BOG the night I was there.

Emma Q on twitter intimated to me Adam Tomlinson may go up the pecking order to top 6!!!! Thoughts Knightmare?

There has been talk he would go high.

Can't see Port Adelaide going for Tomlinson first up, they really need a quality midfielder. But certainly GWS will look at Tomlinson.

Has an interesting game. Not a huge fan relative to his projected draft position. Not quick and really isn't that standout KPP. Reasonably developed already. Don't really see the upside others do. But has an interesting game none the less because he does have that versatility and ability play back/forward or even push up into the midfield. Also have been critical of his ability against better opposition, whether it be up forward or down back. Give him a better player and he struggles to have an impact.

My power rankings best reflect where I would take him. But top 10 wouldn't shock me. Probable 1st round and expect GWS to look at.

Hey Knight

What are your thoughts on Lachlan Edwards bud?

Just noticed him then in the videos list.. Looks a likely type, could he play midfield?

Very talented. Skill level good. More of a forward though. Looks most dangerous around goal. Defensive side of his game needs to improve allot though and probably needs to win more of his own ball.

View him as probably more of a rookie prospect.

I am surprised you don't have us taking any KPP.

My new update has Brisbane adding Paine at 12.

At the time had Bris going x2 best availables with those first two selections. In fact would still recommend the Buntine + Kavanagh combo if available, but then KPP at 30 (more than enough ok options and really not a whole lot different to what you'd be looking at with pick 12).

Good draft mate, great choices as far as Freo is concerned I'd be very happy with Greene, McInnes and tho I'm not all that sold on Elton I'd be happy with him at 29. Happy with the late picks as well but think we will probly save one of those late picks for upgrading Lower.

Balancing needs and likely availability, I'm guessing Brisbane will end up taking:

8) Outside mid - Banfield has already been flagged for a midfield move this year, but apart from that we're lacking for pace through the middle. Bartlett's got a bit of toe (if he can stay on the field) but is more of an inside mid.

12) KPF - I wouldn't have thought the club will be pinning their hopes on both Cornelius & Retzlaff making it (though Lisle may help a little in this area I reckon mid-long term he'll settle down back).

30) Best available

47) KPD - Merrett's injury this year exposed us badly.

Rookie: Ruck

However, depending on what Brisbane thinks GWS will do I can easily see the order of the first two picks being reversed, even if it means 'reaching' a little.

Based off that, as far as types go, I reckon you're pretty close to the mark, with the possible exception of the first pick. With Sumner and WHE taken in this version, personally I'd rate Kavanagh as the next best option, though not strictly an outside mid. Taking McKenzie at 30 bumps the call even further in Kav's favour IMO.

Just my $0.02.

It has been interesting watching your phantom morph KM. Thanks. :thumbsu:

Hey Knight, Could Kavanagh drop to #19 :):D
Would love that.
Also just wondering why Tomlinson has gone from #39(where he was on you list for weeks and weeks) to #9:eek:
Cheers mate

Really appreciate the work you put into this Knightmare

I'm not sure about StKilda's second pick, as Michael Talia.
He just seems a bit too physically similar to some others on StKilda's list.
Sam Fisher and Tom Simpkin are both a similar height to Talia and Blake isn't much shorter. It's taller defenders where the Saints don't have much depth apart from Dawson (195cm).

Elton is a high level talent. Has allot of really positive attributes. Some think he is a worthy high selection. Production probably hasn't been there but potential well and truely is which is what you are looking for in someone of his height/size. Well worth a shot and could easily be developed into a key forward/defender.

I'd take Kavanagh at 8 also. Talk right now is that he will go in the 10-25 range, so i've adjusted his draft position over recent weeks based on that. But in my power rankings will obviously always rate him that little bit higher.
Buntine is a worthy selection at 8, very confident he will develop into a quality player. Can be developed into a midfielder no problem.

Will do my next update probably some time next week. Currently have Murray Newman at 30 as that something different.

A few older key defenders could be rookie options. Tobias Thoolan, Kyle Hartigan are a few easier types to get.
Also look out for Sam Michael in the rookie draft. Brisbane will probably look at as a rookie KPP.

There is the chance Kavanagh slides further than expected, but not super likely. If there can recommend. You might just go 2 rising stars in 2 years.

Has been talked about all season as a 1st round talent but have most of this time had in my 2nd round which is more where I rate him. Have shifted him up a week or two ago because GWS need some KPPs since their midfield is looking very good already.

Because all these drafts are largely an exercise in filling gaps between various rumours. Quayle says a guy is under-rated (no doubt off some whisper or other), everyone jumps into line.

I had Tomlinson going to GWS with one of those first 14 selections before any "news that he is under-rated". Have since the rumour moved him into my top 10 for the time being more so because I could see Brisbane looking at him with pick 12.

There are a few different Talia measurements. In my u18 champs guide had him at 193cm. Think this is probably more his height. Now seeing in some places 194cm. I'm only going by afl.com measurements - which usually accurate. If anyone can confirm his measurements would be appreciated.

Talia measured 192cm and 88kg at the combine

At this height it is marginal he could be classified as a KPD, which has to be seriously considered if people are nominating him for this position.

While obviously an excellent player who will be drafted, it unlikely he would primarily be drafted as a KPD.
