I think Longer will shape teh top 5. At first thought you would think that the GC wouldnt pick him, but with fraser likely only to have 1 more season at best drafting a quality ruck like longer would be a real option for the GC to make a all star pairing with smith for the future.

One thing for certain is that Patten and longer will be on the GWS must have list, and that will potentially force them to make the play for longer at pick 3...thoughts?

Thought Haydn Hector was contracted to GWS?

Also, SYdney have two scholarships boys: Lynch and Guthrie who we might pick up. Lynch probably, Guthrie less likely

Potter is also a decent chance of being picked up as a Scholarship player, probably moreso than Guthrie. There's also Eric Moody, Jack Pratt, Jack Davis and Lachlan Kilpatrick, who have been nominated as possible Academy pickups (I'd say Moody is the only one who's any chance to get picked up though). Plus Tim Wales, Mitch Thompson and Kane Murphy have been playing very well for the Swans reserves, Murphy in particular, and may get NSW rookied.

If I had to take a stab at who'll be taken, it would be Lynch, Moody and Murphy, all as rookies. They might wait another year before deciding on Potter and Guthrie, as they did with Nathan Gordon.

Knightmare, your thoughts on Adam Tomlinson for Vic Metro? How does he rate in comparison to the other key position prospects.

Knightmare, after a excellent Championships in my opinion, where do you think Mitchell Grigg will be rated now? I know a lot of people had him in the 15-25 range due to previous form back in the Norwood reserves, (you had him very high at #9), but with clear examples of his excellent clearance work, precise long kicking (actually onto a leading chest), and obvious grunt and tackling ability (all brought together in the last game with aplomb), whilst also being almost ready made for AFL football (82kg, not sticks like a few of the draftees this year), where do you think he rates now? Or do you stick with your current draft placement for him at the moment?

I'm expecting Adelaide to finish somewhere around the 8, 10, or 12 pick. He has all the attributes our club needs, and would certainly not be disappointed if we picked him up around there, especially because he is a SA boy.

Totally agree on the putting the names out there call. There isn't a single journalist in the country that would attempt the first 62 picks at such an early stage. So it becomes a work in progress kind of thing.
So along with Tyson and Greene improving in the rankings, would certainly think Sam Docherty deserves a place in the draft, pretty high too.

It's hardly an accurate guide and still daily my order changes drastically. Will need to update soon. Have since last updated moved Dobosz into the 1st round + Tyson + Green into the teens. Also need to add some mature agers amongst others.

Docherty was fantastic against WA. Another who should be moved well into that draft mix.

watching Dom Tyson last night I think he will go top 10!!! Great skills, awareness, decision making and goal kicking

Showed a bit didn't he? Certainly put his name forward as a serious top prospect. Right up there. Certainly looks like he will go somewhere in the teens. Top 10 not out of the question.

I think he is in that 1st round mix. Solid KPP. Needs to become a little stronger.

I have rated pretty close with Michael Talia and Jordan Lockyer in that late 1st - 2nd round range.

Really found him to be a standout for SA in the champs. You summed him up pretty well.
Has some great attributes to work with! Love his kicking! Have him in that 5-15 range.
Do very much view him as a top 10 quality prospect. GWS should look very seriously at taking him, but if he slides to the Adelaide selection wherever that happens to be, would be a very good selection.

Hey Knightmare, what do you think about Cam Eardley? Didn't star for WA but was a solid performer for us during the course of the tournament, also took an amazing mark last night! I'm thinking somewhere in the late rounds, or a rookie pick up

I have him in that 3rd round - rookie range. Put together a couple of reasonable efforts. Plays hard. Probably didn't stand out for WA, but was solid and liked the way he competed. Very draftable.

Knightmare - Would Grigg be a reach for Port to take at 6 should Longer and Wingard not be there ? Or would you take Hoskin-Elliott before him ?

And what are your thoughts on Elliott Kavanagh ?

Love your work by the way.

Grigg is an option at 6. No doubt. Hoskin-Elliot same. Both should be available. Would possibly favour Grigg of the two if I was selecting for Port.A of the two. Both will be good selections for whoever takes them.

Elliott Kavanagh I don't have a gauge on his range. Did he play during the champs? Not sure I noticed him to be honest if he did. One of the Western Jets in the mix in any case.

Far out, need midfielders and looks like this draft is slim pickings in regards to midfielders, especially those rare inside/outside types.

Would also love Jaime Elliot, tated him last year and would love him at Essendon ahead of the Crows (Walle - E :p),

as for Duffy, havent heard to much of him, will probably look at more midfielders throughout.

Says who ?
Give me Greene or Tyson any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Both very good and there are a few others who hopefully be around in the mid teen picks.
Personally i think the mids have been just as good as last year so far.

Has been injured, played his first game back with the Jets last week.
He is very good making the Metro squad based on last years form in case he came up for one of the later games.
Has been as good as the best TAC Cup mids in the past.

Was looking at your 2012 draft on ******* Knightmare, and it amazes me that your able to give a rough estimate that far into the future. However, I highly doubt, if we do in fact place where you have put Adelaide in the draft, that we would over look Ben Kennedy. Also, I believe if the pieces fall favourably, I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide went for the rights to him in the mini draft this year. Thoughts? He is a tough midfielder, who is a strong mark and an amazing small crumbing forward. He is like a younger, more skillful, faster Ian Callinan haha

Agree. Could do alright in the 1st round. Certainly the top 15 are very solid. But after that it the next group could go anywhere through to 50 without the clear standouts.
Not a whole lot in it between this whole group but one of: Nelson, C.Smith, D.Tyson, T.Adams, D.Smith, L.Sumner, T.Greene, B.McKenzie should slide through to your selection with a bit of luck.

Thanks for the info ant. Will look out for him in the 2nd half of the season.

It's really a rough outline. Ladder prediction - which no doubt for several teams will be way out.

Adelaide are very keen on Kennedy right now and there have been rumours that they might trade a Bernie Vince or similar to get him via GWS this year.

But at 174cm I do mark him down a little. Has proven that he is a sensational talent this year at the champs but I do question his upside. Don't see him as that top 5/6 selection because I'm not sure his potential matches up against some of the other options. Though I know plenty of others who would argue otherwise.

I view the 2012 draft in sections. I have the clear top 3 as: Whitfield, O'Meara + Brodie Grundy. Then I view the next group going down to around pick 10 the next group in terms of levels of talent. Within those levels it's pretty open and any of those players could go in any position within that 4-10 range.
For me at this stage Kennedy is in that 4-10 range and could be rated by various recruiters anywhere within that range.

I would also imagine Port Adelaide would be going for Grundy in the 'mini' draft as well, considering they only have Lobbe as a real ruck, and Trengove most likely leaving. Although I don't think Port would have anything of value really, besides from Draft picks.

Would be a good move for Port to go for Grundy in the mini draft. Absolutely right.

Has over the past 2 years shown incredible progress and at the champs was along with Longer probably the standout of the rucks.

Being from SA since Port let Lycett slip last year, they would be wise not to let the Grundy opportunity slip.

Pick 8 might just do it. Or if lose player might be able to include compo pick to get the deal done.

Does anyone believe that Coniglio will actually pick cricket over football?

No official word. But would think highly likely. Not nearly as good at cricket as he is at AFL.

Love your work Knightmare

Thoughts on Wingard slipping due to his tendency for getting knocked out during games, has happened throughout junior career apparently

Toby Greene and Dom Tyson are two mids that seem to be hitting their straps recently and i think that you've got them both a tad too low why do you have them that low? Would love Greene at port though :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Wingard is a personal favourite and have had my eye on him since last year. Don't know allot about him getting knocked out regularly during games.

The kid is too good to drop for mine. Can't see GWS letting him slip past 3 under any circumstances.

I regard him as highly as I do Coniglio + Patton.

Tyson + Greene when I next update will be moving a fair way up the rankings. Both seem to be in that 6-20 type range now with the way they have both closed out the u18 championships.

Will get around to updating this thread again within the next week. Possibly over the weekend if I get the chance. Will be some fairly drastic changes in some of the orders.

Jarrad redden?
Isnt danyle pearce rumoured to have signed with gws?

Jarrad redden?

Maybe, but I haven't heard anything about him being anywhere close to getting a game at AFL level. Is he even playing consistently at league SANFL level?

Then again, I don't really follow Port players, so I could be totally off target on this one.

bump...what you think knight???

I made this comment after watching the interview with GWS list manager Silvani who made it clear that the 17 yr olds they already have are majority mids and are coming along much better then expected...he then went on to say that they will be making sure they focus on securing quality talls...when watching the half time replays of the VIC/Vic country game he also was obviously very impressed with longer.

Considering they will likely have Scully, Palmer, pearce, Ward, Coniglio, plus the emerging preselected 17 year old players to build a midfield around...I cant see them letting the quality talls pass.

GC & Port are a risk to them with Ricks (ie longer)
Lions are a risk to them with forwards and CHB's

I'm fairly confident GC will overlook him and GWS will take at 5.

For GC I probably wouldn't persue another ruckman even if Fraser retires.

GC have incredible ruck depth, even though all young, still have allot of quality. If they decide they NEED a more experienced ruckman then they could settle for a delisted Brad Moran type or Russell Gabriel from VFL level.
Also re. Longer. You don't take a ruckman at no.4 overall when you have no intention of ever making him the no.1 ruckman with Zac Smith clearly the guy.

See them persuing more complimentary pieces in this draft and if they find a KPD of reasonable value they will jump at them - eg. if Talia makes it through to their round 2 selection.

As for GWS. Their approach with talls will be likely that they take those they like early. But they will mostly get value from more of those early midfield selections which is why after Patton + Longer and maybe Elton I see them going primarily for midfielders. Bolger could also be an option in the 1st round if they decide to take 2 ruckman.
