It'll be an interesting battle in years to come, the midfields of GWS and GC.

Swallow, Caddy, Prestia, Bennell, Mackenzie, Toy Vs the likes of Coniglio, Wingard, Shiel, Treloar (and then guessing...), Nelson/Grigg and maybe even O'Meara for season 2013.

Thanks for the phantom Knightmare, I love reading phantoms no matter how early they're posted.

Will be fun in 4 years time even as a fan of another team to see these two teams go at it.

Won't even just be this year these teams will be adding top quality players, will still be consistantly adding more young talents over the next through years with likely a couple more high level talents.

Knight...would love a defender like Talia to slide for the lions combo pick...any chance of that happening, or what are your updated views for KPD players possibly available for our combo pick?

Could go anywhere in that early 2nd round type range. Possible but with both Geelong + Gold Coast needed a solid KPD like Talia I'd say one of the two would most likely take him before your selection.

What are your thoughts on Jackson Paine from Vic Met? Thought he presented a great second tall option and over shadowed obviously by Patton. But did look likely the few times I watched him and thought he had some upside?

I think he will be drafted. Surprised I didn't fit him in my draft in the end. Had him in my previously updated version. View him as a 2nd - 3rd rounder.

During the champs might have looked a little better than he is against smaller opponents much of the time. But certainly amongst the better KPFs in a draft with few of note.

Insane indeed.
That midfield in 2016 will be dynamite. They then can look up to the forward line and see 197cm Jonathon Patton. Look out.

Any chance of Grigg sliding to the Crows at Pick 10. His kicking is elite and he is a left footer.

He could. Showed during the champs that he is a top 10 quality selection. But with Kavanagh likely to move into the top 10 mix and likely others to come into that mix later in the season, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility.

The midfield for GWS is looking a little better than Gold Coast at the moment. If they do get Tom Scully, they are laughing.

Agreed. Wouldn't shock me if when all things are said and done that they in 10 years time will prove to be the more successful side. Even if it does take a little longer for them to build their core KPP group.

Thoughts on Mitch Woofindin?

Had him in my original draft, just slipped out of my 3rd round and is one I have well in the mix. Really hard, honest mid. Had a good champs. Doesn't really stand out because he isn't flashy and is that little bit shorter but just has to keep working hard and continuing to give himself every opportunity. Chance to get drafted.

Cheers mate, good to hear.

He went to my school, is a good bloke.

If he get's drafted that will be 3 from our year level!

Carey boy eh?

Have a few particularly good ones coming through next year with: Jack Viney, Matthew Haynes, Kristan Jaksch and Jason Ashby. All of whom I rate. Bit early yet but suspect it might pip the very good class of 2010.

Carey boy indeed!

I think you're probably right, I'm actually pretty interested on your thoughts on Jaksch.

I've watched him play key forward once or twice for the school firsts and he looks like he has great potential, great set of hands.

Really like Jaksch as a prospect. Great height already for a KPF. Good size. Strong overhead. If he continues to work hard could push into the 1st round but view him as more of a 2nd rounder for 2012 at this stage.

Hey Knightmare, just wanted to get your thoughts on Damien Lawrence. He was not even in the stingrays squad 2 months ago and now he has secured a regular spot in the midfield alongside other draft hopefuls Benbow, Pongracic/Rolfe (GWS Trade on possibilities)

Not sure if he is on your radar but do see him as a possible draftee.

Can't say I have him on my radar yet. Haven't seen his games.

Will keep an eye out.

Mare what r ur thoughts on Tom Hupputz? thought he was playing well until he went down with his shoulder injury

any chance to get drafted? He has a good pair of hands on him just seems to stab the ball a bit too much

Huppatz is an interesting one. Those undersized ruckman are often hard to get a clear gauge on.

I wouldn't know his game as well as some of the SA recruiters on here (since haven't looked at him with any level of detail) but the fact that he appeared in all 5 matches at the champs suggests that he is of draft relevance regardless of injury - having played for a div 1 side.

Do you have details of severity of injury? Out for season?

The thing I'd be looking for from Hupputz is how well he plays in other positions and his ability to adapt and play other roles around the ground well because he projects based on size as more of a backup ruckman.

He might be in with a chance somewhere, but by no means a lock.

ahh no ligament damage just strained ligaments 2-3 weeks

Plays across half forward/back when he plays for WWT U 18's and when not in the ruck interesting to see that its not a pocket

i reckon hawks will either pickup michael talia, adam tomlinson or henry schade with there first pick.

Not if forced to use F/S on Curran in 1st round you won't.

If you have that 1st round selection available to you which is certainly possible then probably Michael Talia would be the one to go with. Tomlinson is quality but slightly undersized and Schade should be available later in the draft.

But if forced to use 1st round on Curran then probably Fraser McInness would be my recommendation. Very good size.

What mids will be available around pikc 10-12 (tigs first). I think we still need to add to our midfield.

Wouldn't mind a 185cm + with skills but is a hard nut.

As mids around that pick with Kavanagh likely to go earlier would be looking at Dom Tyson if he is available.
As smaller but quality midfield options Taylor Adams and Shane Nelson are also worth looking at.

Can someone provide insight on Elliot Kavanah?
Apparently rated highly, just coming back from injury. Has anyone got any highlights on him?
Which player does he resemble in afl?

Elliot Kavanagh resembles Andrew Swallow (North Melb) because he is lightning fast, can read the play exceptionally and rarely misses a target by foot. He had 14 months off of TAC Cup due to knee tendinitis. He kicked two goals in his comeback game with the Western Jets, he played for Vic Metro in the u18s last year and also for Vic Metro in the u16s before that.

From Champion Data: Elliot Kavanah is a wingman with very good leg speed and endurance, He reads the game well, both offensively and defensively and is a good decision maker. He played all three matches for Vic Metro in 2009 NAB U16s averaging 16 disposals including an elite 9 effective handballs and 6 tackles per match. He debuted for the Western Jets in 2010 playing four matches averaging an elite 25 disposals, 12 contested and 9 tackles per match. He also made one appearnce for Vic METRO in the 2010 Championship Carnival.

Thanks.

Would you say there is still quality in the first round this year like most years, but then it drops off? Or is the whole draft fairly weak as reported?

I'd say the top group are the top 15 - pretty reasonable top group. Then that next group is weaker but pretty even through to 50 with some solid players likely to be taken in that range.

Possibly similar to the 2009 draft - not a whole lot of KPP options and the overall quality is weaker, particularly with those GWS prelisted players.

What about Jaxon Cooke from the Western Jets?

I watched the vic metro practice match and saw him kick 2-3 goals looked like he played very well. I heard a bit about him at the start of the season just wondering if he was any chance to get drafted and if so where abouts in the draft?

hey knight just wanted to get your thoughts on billy longer, is he a monster body on body type of player or more of the athletic type we are seeing these days? And also how do you rate him compared to last years best ruckman in Gorringe?

Do you think the Curran is worth a first round pick?
