Why do you think Templeton wont go first round?

He's not a first round talent.

There are others with better talent.

Others are rumoured to go ahead of Templeton.

As a 16 year old Templeton was rated a first round talent. Others have gone past him since.

He's a good all rounder and productive so he'll get drafted but he doesn't have the high end talent to go first round that those rated ahead of him have.

From Tasmania I'd be taking K.Kolodjashnij, Nankervis and Thorp before Templeton. Ben Brown and Brady Grey also I prefer.

After watching 3years of underage football i cant believe no one has Dwayne Wilson in here sights i watched him run away and goal ladt year whitfield and thought special -he has moving issues but amazing talent
have to agree - he has the best hands in the draft - great kicking skills - although this year he has not shown the 'star' quality he did last year. Would love Port to nab him

Looking for a little more info on Zach Merrett if you could be so kind, he's been linked to Sydney and I like what he brings to the table:

How does his kick compare to other elite kicks ala MacDonald? Is Merrett going to hit his target going inside 50 with aggressive, low trajectory zone breaking kicks at AFL level ?

Do you see him playing a role for an the AFL side that drafts him next year and playing 10-20 games?

Do any of the top 10 in your power rankings deliver on what Merrett could potentially deliver to a higher standard?

McDonald is in another category by foot. McDonald has penetration and hurt factor on that kick of his on another level.

Merrett can hit those inside 50 targets and hit those low, quick moving passes and have the vision to find the right guy. So that's what he brings to the table.

I'd be surprised to see Merrett play more than a handful of games in his first season. He's someone more in year two perhaps would threaten for regular games.

The top 10 in my power rankings are different types with Aish and Billings those other two I'd have in a similar category for their footskills but they won't be available to Sydney.

If looking for a "kicker" I'd recommend taking a look at Matt Fuller and Luke Reynolds later in the draft.
Reynolds as a kick into the forward 50 is a specialist who will lace out drill those inside 50 passes low and hard and you just can't defend that with the way he plays on from a mark and unloads immediately.
Then Fuller as a mature ager later in the draft is more of an immediate guy who can really roost it 60-65m and do his damage either to a target or on goal as another who I'd strongly recommend as that kicking specialist.

Merrett is someone where if you want him you'd probably need to pay pick 15 with few guarantees he's available at 32. At pick 32 that's roughly where I'd be willing to take him if I was a recruiter looking at his specific type but I'd still lean towards other options later on or Fuller specifically in Sydney's what I'd class as a win now situation.

Thanks pal, great work with these mock drafts every year. McDonald is shaping up to be a beauty. I feel like Sydney will be after an evasive type that can deliver into 50 with precision, someone who can really move in congestion too, that's why I really am keen on Lewis Taylor but his penetration by foot and tackling pressure are turn offs.

KM. What clubs are keen on Matthew Sully and also, what do you think of Tom Barrass? He reminds me of Harry Taylor. What's his draft range?

With those guys not rated inside the top 20 it's generally difficult to predict who goes to which club and which clubs are interested.

With Sully I'd assume if anyone takes him Geelong are as good a chance as any. He's a couple of years older and that's what Geelong need with mostly older key defenders and he's someone Geelong will have seen more of than anyone else so he's someone I expect Geelong have a fair feel for and may take if anyone does.

Barrass has some nice traits and when I do my next update I'll include a brief bio for him.
He's an excellent rebounding key defender as one of the better intercept marking types. Uses it well by foot. Just defensively he's not as strong as a Gardiner or Sully who are the premier examples this year in my view of those who can really get stops and limit their guys influence.
Barrass late draft/rookie is a chance.

Hey Knightmare. Not sure what the big deal on Freeman is... I recognise his explosive pace and aggression however I don't rate his disposal at all. He seems to hit his kicks late and therefore they're up and under and somewhat inaccurate. Can you please give your insight into what everyone sees in him?

FWIW I simply see a player similar to Mathew White. Obviously he's not but curious on the hype.

High ball drop, I've seen under 10's kick better.

Hey KM what do you think about Josh Piston and have you found any highlights of him? Also who will port take around their first round pick?

I'm after further analysis with you.

I initially saw an incredibly explosive, strong bodied midfielder who can do damage by foot but I'm increasingly seeing him as a limited player.

He doesn't win enough of his own ball but then doesn't linkup well either making him neither effective inside nor outside. He just relies too much on receiving to be allowed the opportunity to run and against better teams and if given any attention despite his incredible endurance and pace combination he goes quite.

He's relatively unique in this draft as one of the very few genuinely explosive players. That's why he's in demand. He's just someone you take with the promise of potential, but it's promise without enough substance for my liking.

If anything he interests me most off a back flank with his athletic attributes as more a run and carry specialist off a back flank who does his damage on the rebound as a receiver.

I don't have such an issue though. You're right they're not the low quick cutting through the air passes of a Reynolds as one example but he's still effective by foot over a variety of distances and can do his damage as a finisher when within range from goal.

Hey KM what do you think about Josh Piston and have you found any highlights of him? Also who will port take around their first round pick?

Pitson has a heck of a highlights reel. I've seen enough of him to be very aware of his game.

Offensively he's very exciting to watch and can make you silly with his sidestep and ability to create space for himself on the rebound.
He just needs to step his production and defensive game up a level.

Port I imagine will go best available at 21. It might be a South Australian. It might be something else. I'd imagine Port look for some value and if there is a notable slider take advantage of that.

I'm hoping Freeman is already gone by #9. That way the choice if taking him or not is out of our hands.
I'm totally under whelmed by his highlights & like others think his kicking looks suspect.
If I were a Melbourne supporter I'd be hoping the same thing. I hope you miss him and Collingwood take him at #10.

I think you guys will go Salem if there anyway.

hi km. if you had to rate the top 10 general field kicks in the draft, who would they be?

be interesting to see how the elite players of the drafts footskills, Aish, kelly and billings compare with the elite kickers of the draft, mcdonald, reynolds, merrett etc.

I'm hoping Collingwood pass Freeman onto Carlton at 12 :D

But hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions.

2. M.Fuller
3. Reynolds
4. Merrett
5. Battersby
6. Garlett

Knightmare, or even Snoop Dog might be able to help.

Can you 'nominate' possible father/son and eligible NSW scholarship players before the rookie draft?

Only ask because I have seen many people say it is possible, but others also say it is not possible.

Sydney have already nominated Lloyd Perris well before the rookie draft.

Yes.

You can and you can lock them away with the final selections in the rookie draft.

Applies for both f/s and NSW if nominated.
