Any info on this bloke:

25. Matthew Boag
DOB: 9 April 1995
Height: 185cm
Weight: 90kg
Previous Club: Torquay
Thats a magnicent size for a young fella. Think he sneaks into the age bracket.

Strong bodied, strong marking midfielder but with that Geelong Falcons midfield absolutely loaded like no TAC midfield that we've seen he mainly plays forward.

Draftable and as a late pick could be worth a shot but it's difficult to know just how effective he is as a midfielder with most of his time spent forward which makes his game trickier than most to evaluate with that small sample through the midfield.

KM,

Love your work & I appreciate your knowledgeable insights! With that in mind I've said in another phantom draft that no matter the pick or possible 1st round picks Melbourne have, they must be used on midfielders, midfielders and more midfielders as we currently have the worst midfield in the AFL.

Who & why in your opinion, are the best three midfielders that Melbourne should be deliberating over?

Thanks in advance mate

Knightmare just wondering how you rate Lloyd Perris? Also I wouldn't mind the swans rookie listing Daniel Caire from west Adelaide as a running defender your thoughts?

Scharenberg, Bontempelli and Aish are probably those top few.

Sheed, Billings and Dunstan not so far behind.

All six should be looked at strongly as those best midfielders early draft.

I like Lloyd Perris a lot.

I'm one of the rare few who would look at him late first round but I like high character guys. His game is not so advanced that he would feature anywhere inside the first two rounds but I think with some years in the system and in that strong Sydney program he'll become a very good player. He's an elite runner (endurance) but also has some hardness over the footy. Not a big guy but he'll have a gom lead from the front and get the most out of himself which is what you want. He's one of those guys who will get to AFL level, make the most of their opportunity and work hard to develop their game which more often than not suggests they'll become something.

Daniel Caire is a good one. Plays a good two way game with some ability to provide run but also beat his man 1v1 which is always a positive with a small. As a rookie he's a guy who can be a fit for a team and go ok.

What's his pace like? We have Armitage and Ross as developing inside mids (and Curren and Ledger, but I fear for their spots), but I wouldn't want the house to be riding on either of them in a foot race...

I've always been surprised these past two seasons that the Saints have had trouble finding a spot for Ledger with the push to introduce youth. Every time I see him I see some go he finds the footy and does some damage.

On Boag as with most strong bodied mids he's not quick. Just smart, knows how to use his body and can take a grab.

Swans won't have the best picks I'm assuming but we will be looking for defenders both key position and running backs. Who do you think they'll be looking at?

Sydney like their high character guys who are willing to run both ways.

For key defence early Darcy Gardiner is the probable choice as that only really obvious key defender at this point. After that I'm not seeing so many other key defenders I'd draft.

Ben Lennon or Kade Kolodjashnij as back flankers could be two I could see considered depending on whether Sydney see them as defenders and whether they fit into their profiling. Luke Reynolds is an option with Eli Templeton another who can play back. Braydn O'Hara as a mature ager if you want a guy who can do some damage through his penetrating long kick.

For Sydney late draft I like Tom Langdon late draft as a back flanker. Hard working high character guy who continues to improve his game strongly as well as George Hampson who has overcome his share of adversity as another impressive back flanker who continues to improve.

Thanks! Out of theflankers who could you see that fills the void of Shaw the guy that gets the swans moving by taking the game on?

George Hampson for me. The others are more the class users but Hampson is more a high motor guy who can run and carry. He fits Sydney's personality profiling. As a late draft selection would be a solid choice.

If you want a guy who takes the game on Marlon Motlop is that ultimate choice with his pace and run and carry exceptional. But unsure he fits that Sydney profile as a player you can just imagine running around in a Sydney jumper while Hampson is exactly that type of guy.

Sounds good hope we have a crack at George! Your a champ!

You need to actually watch Hourigan play.

He's another Darling/Membrey manchild variety where he's an immediate player but as a short KPP history suggests these types don't go early.

His name doesn't belong in the first round with Darling selected in the 20s and Membrey went in the 40s.

Knightmare I think you could be on the money with the two you picked for Sydney. Exactly whatwe look for!

I'm not talking about his position. Your write up itself is very misleading, bordering on just plain wrong. Hourigan isn't just kicking goals because he is bigger and stronger. He is dominating because he is very good on the lead, and uses his body well to get a break on his opponent. Which is why he has had similar performances in the Reserves and League sides, against more developed opposition. Yes, he can outmuscle opponents but all the best KPPs do at this age. And I wouldn't worry myself with his endurance or athleticism, he can push up the ground or play down back and run out the game just fine.

Height is the only question mark, not his game. But he compares much better to Darling, who dropped for just as much off field factors as he did height, than he does the shorter Membrey.

Membrey isn't at all slow on the lead either and in fact is also excellent on the lead.

On Hourigan's weight he just looks heavy out there and once in an AFL environment will be told to drop his skin folds.

Jack Darling while he underwhelmed as an 18 year old was still playing league footy and was finding the ball, taking marks and tackling so while he wasn't kicking bags of goals he was still going ok. He just wasn't producing at the level we had hoped given his dominant 2009 season.

I'd still be taking the young Jack Darling, not only because of what he has gone onto achieve in the AFL but also the dominance he achieved in his junior career.
I still had Darling inside my top 15 of those available to be drafted in 2010 which I won't be saying about Hourigan this year as more a guy who is more a 20-40 type who could even get drafted lower with the way clubs overlook the small KPPs early in the draft.

In saying all this I'm with you to the extent that he should get drafted. He's producing and playing some excellent footy right now which should be rewarded. But in my view with a draft position somewhere in the 2nd-3rd round. Not the first round which is where our views differ on Hourigan.

Again, I don't care about his position in your draft. Just your profile paints a very inaccurate picture, and a lot of people base their opinions on what they read here.

If you move young Dayle Garlett out of your top 10 we have a deal sir.

Why would I do that? Is he not a top 10 talent?

Sheed and Billings both have strong cases to be in your top 10. Some might also argue Josh Kelly should be inside that top 10 also.

With Garlett being overlooked last year while I strongly agree with you that he is an exceptional talent and a guy who is producing and even improving his game on field clubs don't actively look to spend high draft selections on problem guys and I consider where you have him getting drafted at the moment to be exceptionally misleading.

Garlett was a first round quality talent last year also and was overlooked for who he is off the field. Guys rarely change who they are and I haven't heard any evidence that he has changed his habits or who he is off the field despite his continued on field production and even improvement (which was also there last year).

So until there are very strong suggestions that a number of clubs are looking at selecting him first round (I just don't see it with clubs avoiding problem guys for PR and team chemistry reasons) he's more likely a 3rd round or later type prospect who a club may take a chance on or alternatively may again be completely overlooked if they don't trust him.

I'd hate to see Garlett in your top 10 at seasons end and go undrafted. I know I've learnt my lesson with Waylon Manson.

I'm not worried about 'attitude'. Don't think it's as big of a deal as it was last year, what with it being his 'draft year'. But he is training and playing full time, and other than a blip in the preseason hasn't been mentioned in the news - either good or bad. As long as he doesn't get arrested or kill someone, then someone will take the chance. And early.

I know Bontempelli wouldn't slip to our pick that he's what we need and maybe Dumont
