Km do you see Sokol getting drafted? Unlucky in my opinion to miss out on an invite to the combine not sure if he got one for the state combine but do you see him getting picked up?

I was relatively surprised to see him not going to the national combine. He's one of the better West Australians this year.

Whether clubs agree with me I don't know but I'd be willing to take him in the national draft.

Rookie draft if he's there can represent some value.

Strong body. Can take a mark, find the footy and hit the scoreboard. You can never have enough of them. I'd pick him.

Hey Knightmare,
I'm curious to know how you rate Hugh Goddard in next year's draft. He's an acquaintance of mine and he's very highly rated at school, just wondering what his stock was like nationally. Would love him at the Blues.

Hey KM (sorry if i keep asking questions)
Who is the tallest player in the draft and would Geelong pick up Dom Sheed if available because we are looking for a ready made player like him. Thanks C2B

From KM's page one the tallest players listed are Rory Lobb & Peter Steffe, each 205cm tall. I've also heard that one of the American players who has tested with the swans and is testing with others is 207cm - given his background is only likely to be a rookie.

I know KM has Sheed listed at 16 on page one but the stuff I've heard about him suggests he'll be gone before Cats pick but anyone in the mould of Simon Black would be well worth pick 15ish.

Pezz, I remember reading something in the herald say he was a potential no#1.

Does anyone know anything about Marlon Pickett?

saw him play either his first or 2nd senior game in the WAFL by chance on abc on night and he absolutely killed it, skills brilliant, got stacks of the ball and kicked 2/3.

Apparently has personal issues of sort, but if he can pull that off with little to no senior experience then I want to know more

Marlon Pickett played for York in the Avon Football League in Country WA in maybe 2009 and 2010, speaking to someone from York he had some issues not sure how serious. I saw him play a Reserves game and he looked injured.

Hi Knightmare,
I have noticed that you and Chris25 vary considerably with who goes at what pick, particularly from about pick 25 onwards. Does this just demonstrate the evenness of the kids from there on?

Hey KM

I've been keen on WC picking up Sheed this year but with the way Waterman is looking next year are they too similar to make Sheed the best option. From what I've seen they have very similar attributes. Based on this should we overlook Sheed?

Sokol is sloppy. Muscle tone non existent, doesn't take a genius to take a stab at his appetite for hard work off the field.

Dom Sheed would be a good get for any club.

The tallest draft prospect this year is Angus Milham at 210cm. He's a year older but even in the TAC was average at best.

You'd want a very long term vision with Milham but if he interviews will and you're willing to put in the time perhaps he could be a rookie consideration as a project.

I'd personally lean towards giving one of the big Americans a go first if they interview well and show some talent with the current rookie rules allowing for those alternative pathway types.

Hey Knightmare,

Goddard is mostly considered one of the top three selection at this stage. Some have him at no.1, I know I did earlier in the year. Others around that top 3 mark. The more I watch him though the more I move him down my draft order for next year.

His game reminds me a little of Jack Watts. He's an athletic tall who is excellent for his age and already very good in the TAC.

His play just feels a bit quiet for my liking. When I say this you can watch him play and he'll kick three goals but at the same time it doesn't feel like he's had a major say in the outcome. He just needs to start taking games by the throat and finding a way to really take over and be more of a presence as Boyd has this year.
For this reason I rate Wright and McCartin who have dominated games more.

I'd probably pick Goddard somewhere around that mid 1st round mark next year but he's a first rounder next year and he has a real opportunity to become an excellent key position player at AFL level.

I totally agree. Acres can play either an inside role or out side role just as good. He can run off the half back and drive the ball inside the 50. He was even put in the forward line to kick goals during the year and he did just that. The difference between Acres and the others is he can play all over just as good or better than the other guys who play just in the midfield. If he goes top 10 then its probably a good pick but if he slides due to his shoulder then a team is going to get a bargain

He's a definite top 10 selection, may even push top 5.

Just the complete modern footballer - Mundy/Pendlebury hybrid in the making.

It does to an extent but mostly just after that first 20, perhaps 25 it opens up and there are no clear outstanding prospects with things coming down to interpretation.

It's a year where picks inside the top 20 all have the opportunity to make it and there is little difference between selections but as you get into the later 20s and beyond I wouldn't want too many selections with few sure things.

First round every year should be all about going best available. If Sheed is deemed best available then he should be the selection.

Other selections after the first round this year is the best time to start looking at needs with that remaining part of the draft after perhaps the first 20, maybe 25 selections pretty even.

Hey KM love your work each year.

So most people have us taking Salem at 11, although I've noticed you have him ranked 24th in your power rankings, would you think we'd go for Freeman if he's available? We seem to go for very low risk picks in the first round the last few years, which sounds like what Salem is.

Also - Is Boyd an absolute lock to go No.1 or is there still a chance GWS would pass on him if they end up getting Franklin and keeping Patton?

Freeman I don't rate as highly as I did earlier in the year. He has some considerable weapons but he's not finding the footy through the midfield as much as I'd like and as such I have him at 18 in my power rankings at present.
He's incredibly selectable with some of those weapons with that pace, footskills and ability to win the footy at times but he'll take time and even then he's less of a sure thing than others.
But to answer your question I suspect he will be available as someone who from around pick 10 might come onto the radar as a consideration for clubs.

Salem I have in the same boat where he hasn't dominated games enough and while he's hit the scoreboard plenty others are doing more every week with guys like Crouch getting 30-45 disposals every week and L.Taylor another who gets 30+ disposals every week. Then you look at Salem and Freeman who get 10-30 disposals per game with that same consistent dominance not there.

Boyd I feel is a lock for that no.1 overall selection. If GWS get Franklin and hold onto Patton they'll still take Boyd. Perhaps some of those key forwards get moved on in later years but I highly doubt it happens this year unless a club is willing to trade off a considerable asset - think a young All Australian.

Between 10-30 touches a game? Salem didn't get less than 21 touches in a game in the TAC Cup this year as well as averaging over 5 tackles a game. Consistency? 21, 25, 26, 21, 22 disposals in his games.

I was mostly talking Freeman but my point is that Salem as with Freeman isn't getting the Crouch type 30+ disposals EVERY week or any weeks for that matter.

Freeman and Salem are the more damaging which is why they're all in that same conversation but I'll take the better performed guys first.

gday KM,cheers for all the effort put in.
if you were picking for the eagles who would you go for a 6 and 24?

I'd pick Crouch at 6. He's the highest rated player on my list and can have a strong impact through the midfield from yar one. Dominic Sheed, Marcus Bontempelli and Jack Billings if there would be other considerations who could also prove to be strong selections.

At 24 I'd look for the best available slider. Perhaps a Dunstan, Acres, Freeman or Dumont if one of them slide.
Zac Jones if there is another strong choice. Basically I'd go the best available from my power rankings list depending on who is there with that group after the first say 25 pretty even and without those standout talents outside of some savy recruiting.

After those first two selections that's when I'd look to add more pace and guys who can cover the ground and fill any other remaining needs.

Better performed? Named BOG in three of his five games, in the bests in four of his five games. Multiple goals in three of his five games and 6+ tackles in three of his games too. Won't find many weaknesses in Salem's game and his performances certainly stack up with the best given the way he uses the ball along with his hardness and goal sense.
