Knightmare thankyou for your reply. Hmm i wonder if it would be seen as bad if Boyd said "i love carlton so much i really want to play for them.. it would kill me to put on any other teams jumper." and not in a smug way like Nathan Buckley did.

Sorry for crapping on about this if the subject bores you.

Number one I don't see why Boyd would want to go to Carlton specifically. Carlton need an elite, franchise key forward but they're no threat to win anything any time soon. Judd is past his best, Scotland is probably in his final season and Carrazzo, Waite, McLean and Simpson are all nearing the end. They don't have enough quality talent under 25 years of age to really stimulate any serious list growth unless Malthouse really works his magic which is my concern with that list. In his situation Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Brisbane and Fremantle would be the better choices as teams who need a young key forward to build and have stronger winning chances.

Second and more important to my point knowing enough about Boyd he's a highly professional guy who will say the right things and go to the club who take him. He's not going to manipute the draft to get where he wants to. He's not even going to do a Grundy and suggest he wants to go to a winner and interview the interviews about how they are going to develop him.

There will probably some year down the track where a projected no.1 overall pick will say something along these lines in a future season and demand to go to a particular club but Boyd this year doesn't come accross as that guy and I sense he'd be ok at GWS/Western Bulldogs/Collingwood/Carlton or wherever and play hard to make a spot his.

Ok thank you for your detailed reply. I was just using Boyd as an example as I know he goes for Carlton but yeah I see your point. He would be good for us .. can't see us getting him unless we trade for that number 1 pick. Even then there is nothing we would be willing to give away that would get us that pick. Im sure we will make something work eventually.

You could be right about Brisbane trying to hide those Queenslanders. Conway particularly having played inside last year but then more outside this year which just isn't his game and as a result he's not living up to expectations.

He's been playing for Aspley in the NEAFL for a few weeks or so, and from reports has gone back to his midfield role. Been going alright, but had a really good finals game last week against Southport - 36 disposals (24 kicks, 12 handballs), 9 marks, 4 tackles, 4 clearances, 7 inside 50's and 1 goal.

Josh, I hope all your dreams come true mate.

Very silly bloke.

I'm a little too long in the tooth to even get out of canter these days, I can only guess you're a bitter, battler at the PFC, a disgruntled fringe dweller perhaps. Take some advice from someone a little wiser, let it go now, or it will consume you.

Another who hasn't been mentioned is Thomas Shanahan from East Perth. I rate him as the midfielder of WA, behind Acres and Sheed, can geniunely play, good size, clean ball user and stood up when he jumped form Colts to reserves.

Very suprised he has not been invited to DC.

Knightmare

General consensus is that Nankervis is the #1 (under 18) ruck men? a) would he still be available at Essendon's first live pick? (which is what incidentally?), and b) how early could he play?

With so much talk and conjecture about the future of Tom Bellchambers, the retirement of David Hille, we are lacking in the ruck department. Wondering about the possibility of adding Nankervis with that first live pick, and then possibly a mature age ruckmen (one of those 20 - 24 types - Rory Lobb, Ben Brown) later in the draft, even in the rookie draft.

Thanks mate :thumbsu:

I'd say Darcy Cameron is the man as that #1 ruckman this year and probably that consensus choice with Peter Steefe probably that next best but none of the options other than Cameron I struggle to get enthusiastic about.

Nankervis was the u18 AA ruckman but benefitted by being a year older. He accumulated plenty of the footy around the ground but as a tap ruckman Cameron is clearly the pick.

Nankervis even though he is a year older will need at least a year to develop into anything AFL relevant in the scenario things go right. He's got a strong body and has a relatively advanced game but there's still more work required. He doesn't even strike me as a ruckman at the next level and instead is probably more of a guy who splits his time between fwd/ruck being an unathletic sub 200cm guy.

Probably most if not all the ruck options this year will be available late draft so you may yet get the opportunity to choose.

Steffe is very much a project rookie. Has come a long way in the past three years, but has a long way still to go. When he first started, you wouldn't have picked him ever to play for SA. Given that and the recent trend in drafting rucks, I'd say its more likely that he is overlooked and given a few years to mature. Although I do like what he offers. Both Josh Miller and Scott Jones project as the more likely players though.

#39 St Kilda – James Tsitas (VIC – Mid)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 03/03/1995
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Style: Daniel Hannebery
Player comparison:
Range: 20-40
Profile: Hard midfielder with elite endurance and the ability to find the footy. Tsitas rarely fumbles and has a hunger for the contest and can win his own footy, win the clearances, distribute by hand effectively as well with his tackling game also very good. He’s not your most damaging user of the footy and his footskills could further improve but he still shows clean hands and is a very good inside distributor. Tsitas despite being more of an inside player is also exceptionally capable outside and will provide a linkup option and get to the right positions to receive it down the field. He also has an above average two way running game with his tackling excellent and some good defensive running to go with it.

Hi Knightmare,
I find it extraordinary that a kid with a write up like this would last until pick 39. I think he will be an absolute gun!

Sam Lloyd.. Will he get drafted?

Possible.

He's had a solid year up forward for Frankston. But he's a boarderline type who is may/may not depending on team needs and how many clubs are looking at state league talents as solutions.

What you mean like say Dan Hannebery? or Dayne Beams or a heap of players who last till later rounds that would have similarly good profiles written pre draft.

Knightmare , do you see Roos being at Melb affecting the draft order. If he does trade for mids , (who I have trouble seeing atm) would the club that gets p2 change who you think would go at 2 ?
If GWS got hold of 1 & 2 , it may well be a lot different to what another club like Geelong would do with 2? While GWS were making noises about trading , I believe Melb would trade if the right players are available. Roos has 2/3 years. Trade period may be interesting this year

Hey Knightmare , where abouts would Taylor Adams rate in this years draft?

Would this trade be overs/unders or just right?
Melbourne get: Taylor Adams and Pick 9
GWS get: Pick 2

Your call on Mitch Thorp going top 50 is looking sound. Heroic effort yesterday, suffering from food poisoning and had to leave the field on several occasions due to sickness, still got 24 touches and three goals in a final. He has annihilated the TSL, completely and utterly. Will surely be very handy for a team next year.

It will be good to see him in the AFL next year for a few reasons. He's got a good story and worked on problems to come back and play at the highest level and to compare the TSL to the AFL. It's looking like he'll have an impact though.

Not comparing TSL to AFL, but have to remember that two of the most recent mature age recruits from the TSL, Howe and Hall, both finished in their team's respective top 10 B&F, and had nowhere near the impact in the TSL that Mitch Thorp has had. In fact, I don't think anyone has had this kind of impact in a long time. Stunning season, and would expect MT to be pretty useful at AFL level.

The main question for me is what role does he play. From what I've seen of him this season, he is basically doing whatever he wants - roaming through the midfield and pushing forward, like a Justin Westhoff. So he hasn't actually been playing as a genuine key forward. I'm sure teams will consider him, but how he fits into their game plan will be key.

I've been generous with my bio of Tsitas. I wrote it up preseason before Dan Hannebery became Dan Hannebery.

He's probably more Mitch Robinson if things work out.

I've updated my power rankings but I'll update my draft order and bios if I get the chance some time over the next couple of weeks.

Patrick Karnezis who has expressed interest in moving back to VIC may come under consideration for that 2nd round selection.

Perhaps a trade of pick 2 for Taylor Adams and a Dom Tyson is possible.

Personally I recommend going the veteran route and adding some vets in addition to some other mids they can build around. Think your Daniel Cross, Shane Tuck or any veteran mids you can think of who are available. Add some of these types and you'll get a more competitive team and hopefully they can help set the example and standard for the young to follow which those early draft picks need looking at the way there has been no development from their youth.
Once that's done that's when you start looking for some players off opposition lists with later draft selections if some value can be had.

Adams is probably worth somewhere in the pick 5-10 range.

GWS have pick 10 from what I understand but Melbourne probably want a touch more. Clubs don't just give up their high draft selections so easily. It's a chance to sell hope to their fanbases and as such often gets overvalued.

Dom Tyson and Taylor Adams may intrigue Melbourne for that pick 2 though.

Jayden Foster kicking goals today, might be making a late charge to be picked up as a late or rookie father/son pick?

It's a small sample size of games so I'd say more likely than not he's asked to come back next year and show what he can do then.

Thorp has matured. He's not a strong bodied key forward but he's someone more of the Jarrad Grant/Jack Watts school as a lighter bodied tall who plays more as a tall half forward. He's getting the scouts down to his games to see him so I suggest he'll be that mature Tasmanian to be selected this season if he tests and interviews well.

Also James Sicily is possibly the most skillful young player I've seen this year, where do you see him going?

Medium marking forward. Not a type clubs go out and seek but when good enough can get drafted. His point of difference is in that marking game but he needs to start winning more of his own ball and using it better to a target. I don't like him up the field as much as others do with his use by foot not great but he has his fans and can get drafted late.
