Knightmare thankyou for your reply. Hmm i wonder if it would be seen as bad if Boyd said "i love carlton so much i really want to play for them.. it would kill me to put on any other teams jumper." and not in a smug way like Nathan Buckley did.
Sorry for crapping on about this if the subject bores you.
Number one I don't see why Boyd would want to go to Carlton specifically. Carlton need an elite, franchise key forward but they're no threat to win anything any time soon. Judd is past his best, Scotland is probably in his final season and Carrazzo, Waite, McLean and Simpson are all nearing the end. They don't have enough quality talent under 25 years of age to really stimulate any serious list growth unless Malthouse really works his magic which is my concern with that list. In his situation Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Brisbane and Fremantle would be the better choices as teams who need a young key forward to build and have stronger winning chances.
Second and more important to my point knowing enough about Boyd he's a highly professional guy who will say the right things and go to the club who take him. He's not going to manipute the draft to get where he wants to. He's not even going to do a Grundy and suggest he wants to go to a winner and interview the interviews about how they are going to develop him.
There will probably some year down the track where a projected no.1 overall pick will say something along these lines in a future season and demand to go to a particular club but Boyd this year doesn't come accross as that guy and I sense he'd be ok at GWS/Western Bulldogs/Collingwood/Carlton or wherever and play hard to make a spot his.
