He isn't that small and has some growing to do, plus he is very talented. Think more Wingard in terms of where he will go, though even then Clem Smith may be more valuable by seasons end in 2014 if his development continues as expected

177cm is small for someone who is and will always be pretty slight. Especially given how hard he plays.

If he cuts it up as a midfielder/ forward he'll go very high. If he's free loading as a midget defender clubs will start asking questions and he could slide. Especially in a draft with a deep pool of talls.

He could easily still make the 5'10-5'11 mark. However, are you of the opinion that he will slip to the end of the first round, considering I am sure I have read you claim that he is the best of the WA prospects?

Or do you just enjoy being a contrarian?

Knightmare, with the glut of talls that look to be set for the first round or two in 2014 I wonder if you think there are any standout ruckmen? Brodie Grundy was identified a long way out as a top 3 pick but he fell because teams are wary of using such a high pick on someone who might need 3+ years to develop.

Do you think that trend will continue or will teams grab the top talent, even if that tall is a ruck?

Obviously it's hard to know your needs 12 months out but I'm really looking forward to this draft, seems like it's got a lot of quality talls and after a few years of mids/flanker first rounders we really need some more quality young KPPs coming through, we have the potential to be thin there in a few years if Griffiths, Elton, McBean and Astbury don't kick on.

Probably not the first time you've called me a contrarian...

I'm not of the opinion he'll fall at all, just that it's a possibility. Lots of kids shine through at underage levels and plateau in their draft year. I wasn't as impressed as others with his 2013 form and there has been a lot of hype around him and that can distort things. His role at the champs wasn't that big playing pretty loose in defense and he wasn't "that good" at Colts level. Given how much has been invested in this kid, he might have been over managed this year.

So i'm just giving you my analysis, nothing more or less. Small back men don't carry a lot of currency in the draft. Look at Carter in 2012 and Battersby in 2013, both class acts but both fell well down the draft order.I don't expect him to fall anywhere near that far if he was to fall at all, he's got too much athleticism and potential to fall out of the first round.

I couldn't tell you if he's still growing. But i think it's still a little pointless when he's playing at the wrong end of the ground for someone ranked so highly and who can be so damaging, i have the same issue with Yarran playing in defense for Carlton. I'd have thought he'd play through the midfield more at the national level next year and make it a non issue.

The ladder will be interesting.

And predicting it will always draw much discussion this far out. Bits will be wrong. Bits will be less wrong. But you never quite know until the season is underway. For now I'm happy to back it in.

It's going to be a fun season. So many teams will be so evenly placed and competitive. Any of the teams inside my top 14 have the ability to make the top 8 and the top 5 I have listed are all premiership chances.

He hasn't played any u18s or TAC Cup yet having mostly played for school (Scotch College) and up in Northern Territory.

May have seen him play for Scotch College when I saw them play earlier this year but if I did it wasn't memorable.

He's not a top selection at this stage seeing as he's not on a TAC Cup list just yet but I'm sure we'll see more of him next year if he does make it onto a list or the Northern Territory state squad.

With the ladder the other solution is to just use the season 2013 one to save the arguments, I'm personally delighted that you've rated Melbourne so highly compared to many others :)

I expect we'll finish somewhere in the bottom 5, which means we'll probably pick Stretch up with a second rounder.

Darcy Moore (Similar to Nathan Vardy) (Coll F/S): Highly touted big man who after a dominant u16 championships has received a lot of media attention but then has had his injury issues and has struggled to replicate that dominant play against stronger opposition since. Moore has played a little bit of everywhere. As a key forward, key defender and ruckman. The only position I’ve relatively seen something from Moore in is as a key forward where he has shown at his height that he’s an effective mark at times contested, on the lead and in the air. As a ruckman he’s a below average tap ruckman, followup work is below average and his ability to find the footy around the ground also is below average at this point. Then as a key defender Moore I’ve found has struggled to impact games as a shutdown only player who is reluctant to go after the ball himself or work to rebound.

Well with Injury last 2 seasons I say what you seen has been Limited.

Agree I don't think he be a Key Defender. I was thinking 2nd Ruck who play up Forward.

The AIS Pull Out has got me Confused

Because the thread title indicates that the thread is about draftees, not a thread about his opinions about teams.

Is it particularly hard to ignore that information when it pops up? You know full well what will be in a Knightmare thread before you open it i.e a whole heap of questions asked of and then answered by him.

As it is I look forward to Richo83's 2014 phantom draft because it was sorely lacking throughout 2013 given all the information you provided us with.

Knightmare wasn't asked to make a ladder prediction, he did it off his own bat. And I didn't expect him to do a season prediction or base his phantom draft on his predicted ladder.

I didn't know enough about the players outside of Victoria to make an accurate phantom draft, so I didn't. For instance I've only seen the WA boys at the carnival, and you need to watch their carnival and local form to tell if they're decent.
