Do you see a particular reason for Venables' lack of four quarter impact? If so, do you think it is fixable in an AFL environment?

I would love to see him slide to St Kilda's pick 23. I believe we are well-placed to take a boom-bust type midfield recruit.

Lack of match fitness and lack of games in recent seasons for the most part (due to injury). If he improves that and becomes a higher volume contested ball winner then he can really be something at AFL level.

Hi KM, been away a long time so I apologise if this has already been asked but can you share your thoughts on Melbourne's trade period?

Secondly, what rucks or ruck/fwds should be available for us with our first pick at #47?

Thanks in advance

Happy to answer any free agency/trade stuff from any club perspective.

Overall Melbourne got better.

Jordan Lewis is an excellent get. Makes Melbourne's already good and deep midfield better in the form of an established high level midfielder. I feel he is a particularly good get from a veteran leadership perspective which will only help the clubs youth develop.

Michael Hibberd I like the addition of and feel Melbourne got for the right price. Another best 22 player.

Pat McKenna is a free shot as someone who is some way back developmentally, but getting McKenna and moving up the draft all in the same trade can only be viewed as a win.

Lynden Dunn I felt was Melbourne/Casey's best in the VFL grand final and he is a solid piece, but with the development of Oscar McDonald looking likely nothing really lost there.

As for ruck/fwds late draft. Esava Ratugolea if you want someone who can mostly play forward and relieve through the ruck is an interesting choice as a development project with some raw ability. Very athletic, powerful and plays with an edge to him.

I do typically reveal all, but being my first phantom draft attempt for the year it's probably best to keep at least some suspense as to who I feel particular clubs may consider.

Hi KM,
What did you think of StKilda's trades
How do you rate Jack Steele, Nathan Brown and Koby Stevens?

You'll need to factor in that the Swans will be hunting a ruckman one pick prior to you at #46.

I reckon we're into Lynch or Olango. There's a couple of interesting mature age rucks out there too

Knightmare do you think one of Ainsworth, Sam PS or Taranto will be available at our pick 7?

IMO Almost certainly. Assuming someone bid on Bowes. Could even be two if someone goes early on Scrimshaw or English.

IMO Ainsworth doesn't get past pick 3 and Taranto won't get past Carlton - who will initially bid on Bowes but settle for Taranto.

At Carlton's pick I think they should be looking at the GWS players but I just can't see them bidding for a GWS player as they won't want to shit in the nest of their feeder club.

Hey km ports listman was confident whoever ee targeted at 9 would be there at 14 i think this can only point to the injured players; witherden, simpkin and venables

Who do you like for 14 17 30 and 31? We need an inside mid, kpf and a clean ball user imo

any chance Petrevski Seton or Taranto slip outside the top 10? and can players tell recruiters from interstate clubs that they will likely come home after a few years, if this is the case do recruiters pick them anyway or steer clear? cheers Knight.

Hey KM,

Who is McCluggage most similar to?

Also, is he a composed Pendlebury type or an O'Meara type?

Hi KM,

My ideal draft outcome would be:

5:Brodie
25:SPP
48: Drew/Clarke/Graham
63:Romensky/Ronke
66:Fisher
RD: Kerbatieh
PSD: Richards

Do you think this is realistic/wise? Thanks mate.

Anyone have any thoughts on the strength of this years draft compared to next years? A lot of future pick swapping

Hi KM do you think young hisham kerbatieh will get drafted or rookied. I understand essendon are keen also carlton. he has testing this month with essendon. Hoping he land with the blues.

Hi Knightmare, I see you won't be commenting on likely draft pick positions until after your next ESPN article, which is fair enough.

So, there was a brief rumour floating around that Sydney were hunting pick 10 (after GC had gotten hold of it). The thinking was Tippett + our 2nd round (think it was 39, although I would consider something else added to it as well). GC are now looking like they will have to go into debt to get Scheer so needed a few stopper picks this year. This would have valued Tippet at around pick 19 or about 30 if we threw in 46 on top. The rumours could have been nothing more than wishful thinking but considering club depth and the strength of this draft..... Personally I would have done the deal. It would have meant being short of depth at ruck but a minor premier and grand finalist taking 10, 14 + 17 to the draft must have been tempting. I'm sure there is ruck depth out there at the mature age level that could have covered if necessary. Would you have taken the deal?

Like the moves the Saints made.

Some pieces gained and nothing lost.

I'm not necessarily seeing St Kilda rising up the ladder next season with Riewoldt and Montagna at their ages likely to have a hard time maintaining that form and the team having a fairly good run with injury this season.

But from a list build perspective definitely a step in the right direction for mine.

HEY KM,

Who will be left on the draft board for the hawk's first pick @ 88?

Anything decent around 88 mate?

At least one of Ben Ronke, Lachlan Tiziani or Brodie Romensky should be there.

All for mine would offer great value late.

Knightmare do you think one of Ainsworth, Sam PS or Taranto will be available at our pick 7?

If one of the three is there my bet would be Petrevski-Seton who may go later than some are predicting.

Best options for Geelong at pick 24?

Willem Drew I feel will be there and offer best available value.

Sam Powell-Pepper and Shai Bolton are two others who could be there and offer some nice value around that point.

Port have taken injured players in the past so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did the same again.

I plan next week to do a phantom draft of the first two rounds, so will keep who I think each club might take for that.

Taranto won't. Petrevski-Seton could with the latter in my view likely to go somewhere around 10.

I compare McCluggage to Jason Akermanis (though without the attitude and a much more unselfish game overall).

McCluggage has bits of both Pendlebury and O'Meara. Accelerates though lacks the power of O'Meara. Has the composure and class by foot of a Pendlebury though more someone who makes good decisions + executes quickly rather than the loping style movement through traffic of a Pendlebury.

McCluggage is a rare finisher and ball user but then also has the accumulation, ground ball game and running game.

Would be a good draft though none of those national draft guys are necessarily going to be at each of those picks. Romensky probably is there at 63, Ronke may be.
Otherwise things would have to go really right for the others to fall to those positions.

Good draft for mids this year. Excellent depth.

Good draft for ruckmen and key position players next year. Though likely less depth.

Hi KM do you think young hisham kerbatieh will get drafted or rookied. I understand essendon are keen also carlton. he has testing this month with essendon. Hoping he land with the blues.

Kerbatieh is a possible rookie. Has improved his pressure game further and playing with an unselfishness I seldom saw from him in 2015 which is a step in the right direction.

As someone who values established players I can't say I would have made a trade involving Tippett to gain pick 10. Sydney are in a win now situation and losing Tippett would have been counterproductive to winning, with no one at pick 10 likely to come close to matching his influence in the next 2-3 years.

For me this year pick 10 feels just outside the sweet spot in the draft, with after those academy players more like the top 5-7 being that strongest part in this draft.

Otherwise for me the strength of this draft is the depth in the middle and back end of it.

If Sydney were considering a deal of this nature then they value the talent in this draft differently to how I do - not that that is unusual or surprising this year in such an even draft that is very open to interpretation.

What exactly would make SPS slide? Is it just the top end talent available or does his last 12 months playing mainly Colts come into recruiters' calculations?

I say that with an obvious vested interest as he would be the perfect fit for North.

Also, bit of a silly question, but is he naturally left or right-footed? I feel like it's his left but he has such a natural action on both sides of the body.

Do you think there is a genuine chance Petrevski-Seton could be there at North's pick 11? Exactly the player we need, but he's had a pretty inconsistent year and his low production might put clubs in the top 10 off.
