Following on with the conversation about the wa kids. Who do you think'll be the first 5 names called out?

Liam Henry, Deven Robertson. Jeremy Sharp, Elijah Taylor look like the top 4. That fifth is still open. Maybe Trent Rivers could be that number five if I'm to pick today.

I'd love sharp on a wing for the dogs, do you think he is a guy that could play in his first year?

Not round one, but possibly later in the year if he keeps improving he could contend on a team and inject some drive depending on how in need a team is.

Curious what's happened with Oliver Liberatore? Looked a sure thing last year, but have heard nothing about him in the last 3 or 4 months

I just don't see Jackson as remotely close to top 5. He doesn't impact games on that level. Good tap ruckman. Very strong when he can get a body on guys. Follows up well. Takes the odd good grab around the ground. So he's draftable. We're just talking about a sub 200cm ruckman who doesn't have a clear second position. It's something I can only get mid-draft excited about.

I'd be interested in seeing Jackson used as a big bodied ball winning midfielder. Can he do it? Can he get to enough contests? Cover enough of the ground? Win enough of the ball often enough?

If he can, that brings something very new into the equation and can really elevate him high up in the first round if he can go into Tom Green mode and have some kind of impact at stoppages like that.
Could Luke Jackson become a KPD? Loves to body opponents, can cover the ground, follow up work is good, can take a grab.... lots good attributes for a KPD.

On Calder's list. Played one game last year. None this year.

Only 174cm. Don't know how he is going or otherwise, but was never under the impression he was or would be draft relevant.

If anyone knows more about his situation feel free to chirp up.

Possible, and agree he has the attributes where you think 'maybe he can' but I'd like to see him used there first before investing a high pick in him to do that.

Yep just saw that if you scroll down the 18’s area a qtr by qtr replay is available.

As expected the AFL website has taken down the round 4 games and replaced them with the round 5 games (which were broadcast on Fox Footy). Does anyone have a YouTube link to the two round 4 games now? I have the rounds 1 to 3 games but would really love to have them all to review!

Think the round 4 games are still up ... need to click on the "MORE U18 VIDEO" link at the end/bottom of the default main page.

Not at a frequency that has me concerned when pressured.

He's relatively a risk taker. Will look into the corridor and look for the most damaging option. Can try to do too much at times, but still often pulls off what he intends hitting meaningful options in the corridor or up the field.

When pressured perhaps he could play it safer than he sometimes does, or sometimes he can overestimate his ability. But seeing him have that confidence and go for it, I don't mind given the rate with which he pulls it off.

Do you think Ash has the ability to transition into a midfielder that can use his pace as a weapon or will he be seen as just a half back flanker?

I like him in defence. Can play wing. But I want him generating meaningful drive off half-back. That's what he does best. If you want a mid, there are plenty of terrific mids in this draft.

What do you think of Fischer McAsey?

Best key defender in this draft. If I needed one, I wouldn't hesitate to take him around pick 10. Has risen up my draft board and deservedly won Vic Metro's MVP.

Ned Cahill or Cody Weightman? Like them both perhaps slightly lean to Ned, just think he has that extra bit of hardness I like.

Thanks for the response. One more question for you. It would seem the consensus pick 1 and 2 are Rowell and Anderson and it seems the only likely teams to get pick 1 are GC, Crows and Melbourne.

If you were in charge of each of those clubs who do you think is the best list fit out of the two if you had pick 1? I think looking at the teams that none really have a player like Anderson but all teams have good, dependable accumulator that don't hurt a lot going forward.

I'm more a Weightman fan personally of the two. He has more dimensions to his game with his ability aerially and at ground level + with the speed, pressure and scoreboard impact v Cahill who is quick but not as complete. Weightman I feel is a chance in the second round. Cahill later might have a shot, though there is lots of competition for spots with small forwards so I see him more as a chance than certainty personally.

Guys like Rosas, Oea, Gore and all those 3-5 WA forwards. I slightly prefer them to Cahill outside of Weightman and those projected first rounders.

I'm taking Anderson in each situation. He's the better of the two for mine being equally as good of a ball winner, taller and equally explosive but then being a much more damaging kick (moving it quicker and more precisely) and having a more dominant game forward of centre to go with it.

GC might be the only situation where there might be some pause as they need that out and out leader and that guy who wants to be there. Rowell is both of those things voicing publicly he wants to be pick one. And they're believed to be favouring going that way if they have the first pick. I'm still picking Anderson who as mentioned before has (slightly) the better game.

Earlier than I'd rate Jones being a skinny project player. But we're all going to have different draft boards.

In you alerting me to his ratings and checking them just now, the one I find most surprising in Serong at 3. For those who watched his championships while consistent and good through the midfield, a threat forward of centre etc and having a lot of good attributes, his kicking worried me and left me very much underwhelmed. So often he just didn't place his kicks nearly reliable enough for targets to get on the end of. I'm still weighing whether he should/shouldn't be in my top 10.

Also it seems a few rate him there. But Dylan Stephens is another where I'm weighing whether he should be inside my top 20.
Hell yes, Serong is completely overrated in my mind there, I am considering placing him close to 10 or even outside of ten.

Stephens is another that I guess me and Chris25 see different players, but I have not seen his SANFL form.

My view of Serong mirrors your own.

How do you guys rate Stephens? If so how high?

I think I mentioned it earlier. But I'm seeing him as too one sided (always goes left), feels more outside than I'd like and not as damage as I'd like either. More just a good but not great mid with a high work rate who is appropriate for selection more mid draft if anything. Reminds me a lot of Ben Johnson (Collingwood). Stephens is someone I want to rate and like the look of his numbers on paper, but ultimately it's what they do on the field that matters, and Stephens wasn't what I was hoping he would be.

I prefer Gould/Schoenberg/Hilder/Mead of the SA boys to Stephens.

i also see Stephens as a bit over-rated, he does have good numbers at SANFL , but i felt he was too skinny, too left sided and with less impact than i would expect from a first rounder especially a top 10 pick, i also really liked Harry Schoenberg, his work rate, repeat sprints out of contests and his good use of the ball, but i disagree on your low rating of Serong, as you say he is tough wins important clearances and can kick goals fairly accurately, but i believe his general ball use is better than you and Lemming think it is, in fact i thought the opposite to you guys in that Flanders was a bit disappointing by foot and Serong was more likely to hit a target.

Not sure if you've listened to much of him but Nick Dal Santo hammers home the point of opposite foot kicking for me. "Most kids are going to find a way to get on their main foot, and if not you only need to get direction from an opposite foot kick"

If you view Stephens development as an AFL level Winger, which most do AFAIK, then being one sided isn't bad, it can be a hindrance as a rover but not as much as some make it out to be

Isaac Smith has made a career out of it on the wing….Probably the one spot you can get away with it....Mind you, Isaac always uses his running jets to allow him the time & space necessary to utilise his left side....Stephens seems to have those same jets.
