Great to see that the same old Hawthorn supporters, who love to sink the boots into our own players, are up and about in style. They've put in a hard pre-season and are more than ready to wield the axe. No signs of rusty typing skills or the development of patience. Our crew of Negative Nancy's have been at it all summer and are ready to pounce upon our players at the first fumble.

One can only sit back and be amazed at the Saturn like abilities of these people.

Well done fellas. Why wait till round 2? Get those boots in early and keep kicking.

I agree mate.

People knock Boyle and demand he be delisted, Yet last week we were all singing his praises after he kicked 6 in and intra club match.

Its the first practise game, in the practise competition. Lets not take it too seriously.

Good post LE!

Couldn't log on all weekend and I almost fell of my chair when I read some of comments this morning.

Abount the only thing on the board at the moment is negative garbage from people who can't see past the ends of their noses.

I don't know too much about football, and by the content of recent posts it seems that I am not alone.

Its also disappointing to see the pack mentality when bashing people. One or two posters may have legitimate views but then the whole board jumps in to kick someone when they're down. Unfortunately this is reflection on society. :(

Anyway WE WON!
Good on you boys + pats on the back for ALL Hawthorn players!:thumbsu:

PS. WINNING FORM IS GOOD FORM.

Bloody disgracefull some of the posts!! Cant understand how quick some people are to delist sack & crucify our own players after a NAB CUP game poor form & we bloody won imagine being a player and having to read the amount of criticisms & you would never read Big Footy again we need to support our players we are Hawthorn supporters yes we are all entitled to an opinion but not this much criticism is warranted.:thumbsd:

I am assuming this thread was aimed at me given I initiated the thread about Zac.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear - I love the Hawthorn footy club. I have been supporting them for over 30 years and they are a part of my life. Always have been and always will be.

So because of this I find it hard to comprehend why fellow supporters think that I am just sinking the boots in to a player who I believe is not up to scratch. In Dawsons case I honestly believe he isn't up to AFL standard. Sure its an opinion which everyone might not agree with but our club has to be ruthless in pursuit of excellence and success. Do you think Allan Jeans team of the 80's had any passengers?

I want to get that feeling back where we go to a game feared by our opposition. I want to get that feeling when we are 40 points down in the last quarter we can still win the game! Thats what we had back in the 80's because we never compromised on player personnel. Thankfully Clarko has been very much Jean's like getting rid of Hay, Thompson etc. I feel for Zac but the team is bigger than the individual. Four years of development is a dam long time.

As far as the accusations of sinking the boots in, Zac Dawson is part of the Hawthorn family and will thus be part of my family. I hope for his sake that he turns it around and shuts me up. I will be the first on here to take what I said back.

seems to me to be user names i havent really seen over christmas?? could be alternate names for people not brave enough to post under there usual user names??

quite frankly there should be a footy IQ test you need to take before your allowed to be a member or be able to comment on footy.....

Some i thought would have been better than this.

I'm not against people knocking players.

Personal insults and making any big statements after one preseason game is not exactly the way to go about it though.

If I was to judge someone after one post 99% of people here would be classified as something offensive at one point during their forum life as well.

No need to have a go at Rusty Hawk's typing :)

But, I agree 100%.
We are Hawthorn supporters, damnit, let's give them support and encourage them, not bash them. How players can play to any standard with their own supporters jeering them is beyond me.

Opinion on performance is not putting the boots in. Like Phil I too was critical of Zac's performance and while it may have been the first game of the season and only the NAB cup, for a young guy who has been delisted twice you would think he had a lot to prove. I truly hope he makes a mockery of all those who have been "putting the boots in" and I too will eat my words when Zac puts in a blinder of a game, but I will also continue to express my opinion when someone is not performing to potential.

I love this club with a passion but that doesn't mean a poor performance can be brushed under the carpet and opinions can't be expressed.

Good post, i as some others have put couldn't log on all weekend and i have been reading all the posters on here just shaking my head. Its NAB cup for god sake. We lost last year against carlton and look how the season turned out.
I went to the game yesterday and while it was a terrible game to watch i wasn't really bothered with how bad we played. The wind was terrible it was swirling everywhere and it didnt favour a end it just made it very hard to kick goals.
I was just thrilled to have the footy back and there were still a lot of positives to take out of the game.
Stop digging into anyone who has one bag game in the nab cup.

Mate you have to get use to it, if its started already in the first game of the NAB we would have atleast 25 more matches to go!

Anyway I wouldnt get to concerned half the people sticking the boots in, are the same ones who wrote off Ladson, they change their opinion as quick as the wind changes. Half of them just follow what the bloke above them wrote, and couldnt analyze a performance single mindedly if their life depended on it. Dawson did stink it up, but no one has mentioned that his first half was pretty solid.

Only concerns with yesterday's game:
1. Dawson still needs to get a better head - have to say that in general, I was pleasantly surprised with Dawson. I thought that he showed a bit of promise back in '06 but was thrown to the wolves. "Give him a year or two and some protein shakes and he'll be awesome" I said. Somebody start blending up Whopper milkshakes because I think he still needs another 5kg and game time. But, if we can afford to hold onto him and give him the development, I think he'll deliver.
2. Tuck backs himself in a little too much - Again, just ecstatic with his play yesterday, but held onto it a little too long in a couple of instances. Probably gets away with it at BH, but the bodies are a bit bigger in the AFL.
3. Kennedy and Stokes didn't get enough of a run to get a good look (IMO).
4. We should have smashed Sydney in the centre - on paper at least.

For the baggers:
Boyle was as off as Franklin, the forward setup was nowhere near what I'd like/am used to seeing, Rioli showed promise, but he's not an automatic replacement for Osbourne/Clarke.

And some positives:
MUSTON, RENOUF, TUCK (even though I was a little critical earlier), MORTEN, MOSS!

Don't forget, some of these players are seeing their first/second game of AFL.

I agree with you. It pisses me off that those "supporters" who hide in cyber space are so indulgent with their opinions on players who are on the line in public and who are the playing group of the club they claim to support.

Of course those "supporter" critics are not prone to go to the club and confront the coaches and tell the coaches that, they the coaches are fools, ********s and incompetents because they keep players who are obviously not up to it. No they hide in cyber space and fire off their cheap shots.

Get real. Yesterday was only a practice match to see how the young kids could perform against tougher oppisition than they have ever faced before. It's a long season and it's too early to be "up and at 'em" just yet.

It wont change.

I've read in the past from plenty of posters;
Sewell was going to be delisted,
Gilham would never get promoted and was a Box Hill dud
Guerra was a waste of PSD selection and would add nothing,
Taylor would never be of any use, even as backup,
Ladson wouldn't make it,
Young wouldn't make it
Roughead can't play as a forward, now posters say he can't play anywhere else but forward
Lewis is too slow, and we have too many inside guys and should be traded, even though he's only in his first year after 1 Pre-season
Morton would be delisted at the end of the year, now after finally seeing him they are over-excited.

People seem to react primarily on what they see in one game, and not take into considerations that AFL is a damn hard sport, and sometimes things don't go to plan, and you need to work hard to get to the level that is required. Even the best have bad days or months, so those trying to make it as a player are obviously going to have bumpy rides along the way.

You might have meant dropped twice not delisted. Unless you are thinking of Thurgood.

Just to clear up one thing, this thread was in no way directed towards one person. It was more a thread in response to the flood of criticism directed against certain players after the first practice match of the season... the first practice match.... which we won.

Quite right you are. Apologies to Zac. Already eating my words :D

I agree we shouldn't bag our own otherwise we could be confused as Richmond supporters, but unfortunately some people wont be able to help themselves. Let's just hope that they are again proven wrong as they have been in the last couple years.
Some were bagging the appointment of Clarko as coach even before he had coached a game. I wonder what they are saying now.

In regards to the above, my apologies to the OP. Sorry Lethal, I assumed you were referring to me. Next time I will keep my gob shut!

Well, I will put my hand up for being critical of Ozzie and Dawson. Neither were impressive yesterday and I said so.

Yes it was a meaningless preseason match, first of the year and all that, but the point of preseasons is for players to develop and improve (hopefully) On what I saw, neither has, but thats my opinion only.

I am entitled to my opinion, as are everybody else here, regardless if you agree with it or not.

My 2c.

Good post and a reason I now hardly ever post on here, though I do come here to get training reports and injury news. Those in question provide nothing constructive to this forum and make me see red.

As for this
only players i have knocked are Tuck (for seemingly being to selfish) and Dawson (nuff said)

Sorry to single you out MM it is nothing against you and just an example, but one of our team rules is that if you don't have a target or an option you are better to give away a free for holding the footy and give your team mates a chance to man up than providing an opportunity for quick rebound from a turn over in contested play.

Knockers of Timmy, Ossie and Dawson you are only fooling yourselves if you think you are being constructive and those with analytical brains will realiase the attributes and timing of where these guys are in their careers.

Oh how many did Buddy Kick? Can't kick over a jam-tin, most selfish player on the list, delist now...

Not bloody likely. It is one pre-season game of footy.

I for one hope the above players read this and it spurs them on to better things.

By all means highlight the things players need to work on but give them some credit for the positive things they bring to the team.
