All right NM are playing the Eagles. So what do the Eagles stats tell us.
The Eagles surprisingly have only hit scored 100 points or more 8 times from 13 games but have let oppositions get to 100 points twice - both times they lost - message - forwards take you chances because there defence is solid.
Their leading goalscorers for the 13 games have been in order Kennedy 7, Darling and Lynch 4 each, Shuey 5, 1 goalscorer 2 goals, Darling 4, Hill 3, 1 goalscorer 2 goals, Cox 5, Hill 3, Priddis 3, Darling 3, 4 goalscorers 2 goals each and Lynch 4 last week - message they have no set target man and the key target man will change every week,
Their main goalscorers in terms of goal production have been Darling, Hill and Lynch but Cox, Hams, Kennedy (until his injury), Masten, Natanui and Shuey all contribute near enough to 1 goal a game each. They have had more than 10 goalscorers in a game 7 times and only twice against.
Cox has scored in 8 games, Darling 13, Hams 9, Hill 12, Lynch 11, Masten 6,Natanui 7, Shuey 6 and Scott Selwood 6.
In defence they have allowed Smith of the Dogs get 4 goals, Clark of Melbourne 5, Riewoldt of St Kilda 4 and Cloke of Collingwood 5 goals in their games.
Other blokes to have scored 3 goals against them include Giles of GWS, Miller of Richmond, Cunnington, Davey and Crameri of Essndon, Drummond, Green and Polkinghorne of Brisbane, Beams and Beams of Collingwood - height is good.
One weakness may be that they had only 14 blokes score 2 goals in a game and 11 of those have scored 3 goals in a game.Buddy centric Hawthorn have had 15 blokes score 2 goals in a game but only 6 have scored 3 or more in a game. It is a forward line, in many ways by committee.
Their first quarters are dodgy offensively- only twice in the last 8 games have they scored more than 4 goals in the first quarter but defensively all year in the first quarter they have allowed 4 goals or more only twice. In the third quarter they either fire or they fail - only in one game were the scores scored by each side similar and the scores otherwise either in favour of the Eagles or against them was 4, 5 or 6 goals to 0,1 or 2 goals. That third quarter could be the key if the game is close enough.
Where they are most dangerous is the last quarter, scoring 4 or more goals 9 timesand allowing 4 goals against only 3 times.
The Eagles have played 6 games away and lost their only 3 games away from home.
The key may be to keep the game tight and try to lead at quarter time - in the 4 games they have been behind at quarter time they have lost 3 of them - the other game was the Derby.
