Saints would likely be after WC's pick 38 if they can't get Brown as part of the Cripps deal. Geez, WC may not enter the draft until pick 40 or 50. Its almost in WC's interests to offload Brown. I still don't know why they took Wellingham. I think Cripps will be every bit as good as him and he comes much cheaper.

Because we will get both?

Sure it's always nice to have a 1st round draft pick... but from all accounts this season's draft isn't the strongest. What we may have got with pick 17 this year we would get with pick 30 any other season.

Hell once you are out of the 1st round you are every chance of getting success with a rookie list pick as much as you are a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Statistically speaking weren't West Coast the top side for disposal efficiency this season?

I'm not sure how it finished up but I'm sure we were up there for most of the season.

Yeah that's a horrible call. Westcoast are a high DE team and kick the ball a lot.

It's not at all in our interest to offload Brown.

Though i agree on Cripps, younger and cheaper than Wellingham but they would play different roles. Wellingham will go on ball.

Should be a straight swap. Stevens could go to any Vic club and Cripps only wants WC if he is to leave the Saints.

Just get it over with. Both teams are getting a young talent.

Saints if you get Stevens please play him.

Very unlikely we would play him because we have a number of younger inside mids who are being rotated because they're young, not because they're not good enough to make the team. We need some outside mids going forward, we are more than set for inside ones.

Cripps was going to be that which is why it's disappointing to see him go.

That will likely stall that deal then.

Wants and needs gametime.

Maybe Stevens hasn't nominated because no club has shown enough interest to give him a good contract and a promise of game-time.

Nup, been plenty of interest.

Didn't WC say that it could very well be a week 3 deal.

Must be waiting on what the compo picks will be.

I hope you're right. But have any clubs been on the record saying they are interested?

But definitely will be waiting on the comp picks as it could be an upgrade deal.

Clubs rarely reveal to the media who they are after.

WC has confirmed several clubs have inquired.

Making lies up to reassure yourself much?

Everything I've read has said the draft is very strong for the first 20-30 picks, before dropping off. Unsure if that's true but that's the vibe flowing around.

Not a good thing for West Coast with our first pick at 38...

No need to hurry. Compo picks are unknown at this stage and we should help place Stevens with a club that will give him opportunities.

No sold on Cripps having a place in our side.

Same but sometimes you don't say no to a young talented player.

I'm sure we would find a role for him.

Cripps nominating one club works in our favour. Stevens hasn't done that.

Are you sure he doesn't done that? Just because it hasn't been reported doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Complicating matters is that it may not be Stkilda, have the Saints even expressed an interest in him?

Nothing to suggest he has. I believe we mentioned he was happy to go to one of several clubs.

Yeah I've heard the draft is nothing special - not outstanding, but not overly poor.
One person who said this was the Collingwood recruiting manager (Walsh) - although the pies have been trading for picks, so perhaps he's taking the piss...

From my research into the picks and having watched a lot of the Foxtel Cup and reading up on the players it does seem a little thin - sure we'll get the usual guns early with 1 or 2 break out players falling late - nothing unusual really.

Either way, it's always nice to have an early draft pick for that potential star, but just getting an established known player is far safer and could be what West Coast need.

edit: Should also be noted that why this draft is a little thinner is because a lot of players who would have been picked up are already playing for GWS, GC or Adelaide.

You've clearly just made that up.

 Obviously don't listen to radio or watch tv much do you? I've heard Kevin Sheehan say several times that the quality of the 2012 is nowhere near as strong as in previous years.

Sounds more to me like supporters of clubs with draft picks are hoping this is the Judd/Ball/Hodge draft again and refusing to believe it's just not that good.

Good, but not quite a 'super draft'
PUT it down, perhaps, to new-team fatigue. It was about this time last year that a starved bunch of recruiters began to get very excited about what would be there for them once Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney had stopped hogging the best part of the draft.
They knew they would have some decent picks again. Many of the players who caught eyes at last year's under-18 championships were ineligible until this year and those things prompted much optimism. But 12 months on, it's time to pour a bit of cold water on the supposed ''super draft.''
The feeling among recruiters now is that the coming draft hovers somewhere between ''normal'' and ''pretty good,

Yup even today in the paper there is an article about how poor the quality of the WA draftees are this year.... where we have been dominating the draft in recent years... this year's crop of players are rubbish.
