Unfortunately Jonts it very obvious few people who post here have much idea of trading/drafting.

Stevens was a highly rated youngster who was initially tipped (early 2009) to go top 5. Unfortunately OP midway through the 2009 season saw him struggle and further exposed his lack of pace, which was really his only knock. His kicking prior to 2009 was never seriously questioned, but he changed his action slightly during 2009 to counteract OP which to the informed made perfect sense.
His first 2 years at WC were impacted by OP and the residual affects on running gait, fitness and kicking action. Only from late 2011 has he really got back to full fitness which unfortuantely coincided with the resurgance of WC's midfield and in particular the availability of both Kerr and Priddis who play a role similar to Stevens.
Clubs know games revolve around winning contested ball, which increases the value of players like Stevens. Whilst clubs will only be able to offer the pick(s) they have available , talk of picks 40+ as being equitable for Stevens really displays ignorance on behalf of the poster regarding the knowledge of how footy is played today.
Tom Swift gets a game ahead of him.... And Ebert left last year, leaving a spot vacant... Please.
Addam Maric showed more in his stint at Melbourne. And at Richmond, actually.
Dominates VFL, can't impact AFL.
Maybe that'll all change. I'm sure he'll get picked up, but he's a delist if no-one showed any interest

I appreciate that. As has been stated many times before, Russell was 2nd in our BnF in 2010 (behind the Brownlow medallist), and played some very good football on either side of that year (2011 started well before fouled by injury).

I feel as though he is leaving because we are making cap space for a big play (guess who) and will be on a reasonable senior wage wherever he goes especially considering the amount of rumoured interest swirling around (Geelong, Richmond, Port Adelaide etc.). He is certainly not delist material and would be reatined wihtout question if he didn't find a new home to his preference and was happy to take a pay cut.
Going on your B&F theory we should get something high if David Hille goes as a free agent. He won the B&F in 2008. I have a feeling it doesnt work like that.

The problem is one is 25 and the other is 31

Length of contract is another variable. 2008 is also a bit further off

This continual referral of Stevens to Swift is tiresome and shows a lack of knowledge of WC's playing structure.
Swift gets a game when Rosa, Masten, Shuey or Gaff are unavailable as Stevens cant play that outside style of role - he simply doesnt have the leg speed. If Kerr or Priddis were unavailable then Stevens would play ahead of Swift.
WC have amended their playing style slightly with Ebert's departure rather than trying to find one player to replace Ebert per se. Darling has been asked to play more of the link man role in the fwd half this yr, whilst Watters and to a lesser extent Schofield are being released to fill that position centre and backwards of.

I'll accept that you are trying to use Maric as an example of a player between levels, but its an erroneous comparison. One was a light bodied HFF who didnt have the team quality and structures around him to be successful (as well as finding the contested, game a bit difficult), whilst the other cant make it into a team due the quality ahead of him. No doubt Stevens he has issues -- he certainly isnt fast (and sometimes gets lost following team instructions) - but he is exposure away from being an AFL player and to mention he's a delist if no-one shows any interest is a stupid statement.

Has there been any clubs officially (reported in the media or by reliable sources) in him?

Has Koby even indicated that he wants to leave? I haven't seen or heard him being mentioned anywhere except here on BF.

Would be interested if he wanted a trade.

Stevens doesn't play in the same position as them though.

Maybe is Priddis or Kerr were out then he will fill in.

Apparently has told the club he wants to leave.

Eagles will be looking for a AFL calibre replacement for him. Fact is Richmond dont really have any players worth trading for. Got a feeling a move to the Demons would suit with perhaps a Cale Morton in return

Eagles could take a punt on turning that train wreck around

West Coast wont touch a Morton.

I'd take that if I was the Dees

Ok cheers Pantskyle - is that just a run of the mill rumour or is it likely to have some substance behind it?

Came from a respectable source.....maybe.

Not 100% but that's what I heard somewhere.

ok cheers mate - will watch this space with interest. If there are indeed 6 interested clubs, hope we are one of them

What about straight swap for Toddy Banfield? Could be dangerous in the West Coast forward line and we need another inside mid, think he'd get opportunities next year and could become a crucial player after that

Would definatly look at that if I were WC. He lacks a bit of 'mungrel' but knows where the sticks are and woosha would soon put him to the sword you would think.

I think that would be a viable trade on pure talent and last year I would have been all over it

But we have recruited Newman, Dick and Hill in the past year - i'm not sure a small/crumbing forward if high on our agenda.

For mine WC need midfield quality. So I'd rather see a pick upgrade or perhaps someone in a similar position to Stevens.

I actually think both of you have got it wrong. Swift is predominantly an inside player as well. Swift is currently the preferred player, although they are both one dominant display off being the number one replacement.

This thread is getting funnier as it goes on !!

We are talking about a player that has been in the system for 3 year and was drafted in with a 2nd round selection (23)
After 3 years has played just 11 games, Sure he has been injured - Doesnt help your argument at all when your telling me that a 21 yo kid is constantly getting injured.
He is Slow & Has suspect kicking,And constantly injured in a game thats getting faster and players are required to play for longer periods.
In a strong draft , Please explain to me how this kid's value has not dropped ?
Forget about player swaps and rather than make just a lazy 1 line comment like ''THIS POST IS JUST WRONG''
Where and what selection do you believe he is worth ???

Click on iview on ABC1 and watch a replay from Saturdays final against EP in which Stevens played . I did not see the game so im not sure how he went but the full replay is there so you can get an opinion for yourself . I would be keen for him to stay , he is a very likeable and popular player at WCE .

It wasn't one of Stevens best games but you will see him play and it was his first game back from a two - three week shoulder injury

Hurts to say, but Stevens is just not that good. Slightly faster than Priddis/Sam Mitchell without the smarts and handballing skills.

Maybe an early 3rd pick if we are lucky and more likely just a second round upgrade. Swap for Kane Lucas would be a steal and that shows his true worth.

You see this is where us as supporters fall into the trap of over rating our players when they are playing at minor leagues ( believe me being a tiger supporter there have been many false dawns with these types)
Angus Graham - best ruckman at vfl level totally dominates -spud at afl
Greg Tivendale- you would swear he was the next GAJ playing there- average player at afl
Kayne Pettifer 70-80 goal medium foward in the minor leagues but never A-Grade at AFL
Anthony Banik- #1 pick and was touted as being the best player ever to play - NO

I can go on & on & on, But pointless as all teams would have their versions of these players

The fact is Koby stevens is a 22 yo 2nd round selection that is slow & not a very good kick, He is injury prone so there are huge doubts to his durability (hope he is ok from now on but will never be agrade)

I personally wouldnt mind stevens at richmond but wouldnt give up anything better than a pick 50+ for him

If anybody offers westcoast a selection before 40 - Grab it and Run like thieves
