You do realise that was done to help both parties, North obviously wanted him a little and we helped him get where he wanted to go...
Of course. Your mate was trying to play a game of one-upmanship.

I cant actually see how westcoast are only going to use 3 picks, if stevens doesnt leave you will only use 2 !! the minimum is 3 and if stevens leaves you will surely use 4 - so a 3rd rounder is better than a 4th

Essendon were always talking about not useing pick 42 we offered up for houli, then houli walked and essendon ended up useing their later 4th pick - CRAZY

Minimum is 3, however can also use these for rookie upgrades, see our draft last year:

  • #23: Murray Newman:
  • #28: Fraser McInnes:
  • #63: Ashton Hams (Promoted Rookie)

As stated previously, a lot will depend on what happens over the trade period, depending who comes and goes will obviously determine how many we need to take, however if we do manage to snag a midfielder I can't see us going too deep unless we make some hard decisions on players like Dalziell, Swift, Neates, Stevenson, Strijk, Weedon and Wilson(Bolded will most likely stay), not to mention Stevens, Smith and Brown who are all being spoken to by other clubs.

In summary, yes, you might be right and we could go deeper, but we didn't last year.

Would Westcoast be interested in Jesse Stringer or Steven Motlop for Koby Stevens? Stringer is a promising outside midfielder who probably would have been in the team most of the season had he not had his club imposed suspension. Both are very similar. They're quick with good footskills and apply a lot of defensive pressure but lack size and that's becoming an issue for us. It makes sense for us to off load one for a strong bodied midfielder and Koby Stevens seems to fit the mold. Stringer is a Rookie but will almost certain be promoted and will play regularly football next season. With Varcoe, Murdoch, Motlop along with several other 6' or under players in the VFL were looking like we need a bit more size to stop us from being bullied.

I don't know much about Stringer other than his assault issue but I like Steven Motlop.

I don't think he'd want to move to WA out of the blue though.

They are actually very similar players. Similar height weight and build, both explosive and both have good foot skills. Stringer has the off field issues and is a rookie so would probably be more open to a move but other than that, not a lot separates them.

Jacob Surjan may be a fair swap...not signed with us yet. I think you were after him a couple of years back?

I thought Daniel was in WA now though? (maybe not)

I'd probably trade Motlop for Stevens. Maybe not staight up, but I'd certainly do it with some sort of pick upgrade, would address needs for both clubs I think.

SImply don't understand why you would trade Motlop - showed a lot of promise this year - certainly more than Stevens

As a WC fan, I'd be all over the trade - but I don't reckon it would be fair to you blokes.

Probably because we have a shedload of small forward types but we are thin in genuine midfielders coming through (particularly inside mids) and Motlop would have currency after the very good year he's had, so he's one player I'd consider trading to address a need.

FWIW I didn't say I'd trade him for Stevens straight up, WC would definitely need to add more to make the deal even. But I would potentially trade Motlop somewhere to net us a good midfielder.

Fair enough - i saw enough of Motlop this year to think he could play midfield.

Personally I wouldn't want to be trading our first rounder in a deal for motlop, and I'm not sure Stevens and 35+ would get the deal done

He's a jet but I do think the two shoulder recos will hold him back from ever having the body to play in the midfield on a permanent basis, which is why I'd always be open to a trade if a good mid came knocking on our door.

Value would be tricky yes, as WC's first rounder is probably something they'd baulk at, and the second a bit low. Anyway, just a thought.

I agree that Motlop could be used as trade bait, however I was more of the mind of snaring Gysberts for him. Melbourne are screaming for a good quality small forward to rove under Clark and if their team board is any indication there is some interest.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to pay anything more than our second round pick for Stevens. That should get the deal done one would think.

I agree it would be around the mark - you can just imagine the stalling and baulking that will occur this year with the trade period extended to 3 weeks.

We'll ask for your first rounder, you'll offer your third. It'll stale mate for a week and a half.

You'll then offer your second round for stevens and our third rounder.

We'll counter with your second rounder and a swap of 1st rounders (2 positions)

It'll go back and forth and end up being something like a second rounder and a swap of third round picks.

i.e pick 32 and 50 for Stevens and 52

You're probably right, I hate the tediousness of it all though.

Hopefully we can sort things out quickly with a pick that all can agree on, and get something done.

I agree - but it's only tedious I guess because we all hang on the radio/interent waiting for a deal to be done, reading every snippet of gossip that is leaked by the press.

Although I stated the above - my club I'll give credit for - tend to get a deal done fairly quick smart. About the only one that took a great deal of time was the Judd trade - and I think that still happened on the Thursday.

Round of applause for Pure Ownage I say. It's good to see some reasonable discussion in a trade thread for once.

As for Stevens, I believe he could certainly add to your midfield, and I'd have no doubt he'd flourish in the quality Geelong environment. Would be a great career move for the guy.
I'm surprised that Motlop's name keeps popping up as he's a talent. Would love him on our list, but does he have midfield potential, providing he puts on some mass? It's just that after securing J.Hill and drafting Newman and Dick last year, not to mention the return of LeCras and Nickoski, we are well stocked for small/med forwards (for once).

Was that the game where he had 1 possession and was subbed? Lols....
How many touches did pick 86 get?

lols indeed. Stop being a child.
