I am never an apologist when it comes to Kosi, why on earth would I need to justify his selection?

If he is picked in the best 22 again this week, live with it.

However don't give me this zero influence business, I would need my fingers and toes to count how many times this guy has put his body on the line for his club and come off second best.

If belittling his impact makes you feel better Darren, great, but I am certainly not going to be made to feel embarrassed that by somehow supporting Kosi, I am accepting mediocrity.

And Todd, I am sorry if I read your post wrong, but you did say 'us Kosi haters'

After Riewoldt got injured, I did a lot of research for his replacement in my Supercoach team. After reading about how he dominated the last time Riewoldt missed a bunch of games (albeit 5 years ago) I took a big risk and went with Kosi. After talking him up to my mates, I well and truely got egg on my face after his performance against Port. Hoping that it was the wet and windy conditions and being a bit rusty after 3 weeks out. Need a big performance from him this week under the roof of Etihad but I'm getting used to the fact that I may have made a big mistake. It was always a risk though - would've paid off handsomely (and still can).

I really hope you Supercoach pick turns out well for you.

Why you didn't get Champan of another mid who plays forward I will never know.

Jarad Brennen was a good choice. I don't think anyone here expects Kosi to generate the kind of scores Riewoldt does.

Let me ask this, and get down to the nitty gritty of evaluation that every player faces..
Apart from playing his role of getting the ball to ground and filling a jumper, What is the minimum, stats-wise that u would accept this week?
Would maybe 1 goal, 8 possessions and 5 hit outs?
Don't worry about him filling Roo's shoes, try filling those of the least of his team mates.

The point to this is we must stop putting our head into the sand and accept that if we go into the finals with an underdone or no Roo, we risk Kosi being exposed again during finals. WE MUST start finding forward alternatives, Stanley, Gwilt, Lynch etc. Someone who at least doesnt allow their full back to be their extra player lose in defence.

I see that so many hope Kosi will become a reliable forward that could win us a GF, how many believe it?? Do u want to leave it so late we lose another grand final?

It would be good if he could better his 48 goals from last year, or at least get thereabouts.
The big problem remains, how do we score the 78 Goals that Nick kicked last year.

reading this thread and the one about Zac Dawson makes me think we are starting to get a bit of Richmond about us, in the we are starting to dine out on our own. Yes everyone can have an opinion hey thats what big footy is for but seriously i can almosts ee the wry smile on Nexus Helen from here.

If you expect Kosi (one player) to be the difference between winning or losing a GF, you have unfair expectations IMO.

Do you honestly believe there would be less of a risk playing a Lynch or a Stanley in the finals, or even in the coming weeks as the boys try to secure a finals spot?

Totally agree RHG.If he kicks 5gls and we win he is a match winner but if he dos'nt he is no good lets get rid of the negs and get possitive about our side because Rooey might not be back finals time and then are we going to blame him 4 not playing. So lets stop stabbing our players and get possitive:thumbsu:P.S. and who wants a post full of negative Helen i surely dont?

i think you need to read it again because i was not bagging him, but stating that his man generally hurts us.
excuse my mistake on the stats and explanation, i'll leave that to you must enjoy the detail.

Carlile didn't hurt us though. So your generalisation isn't valid. A simple I was wrong is ok.

For some perspective it's interesting to go to the Geelong board and see what they are saying about Hawkins at the moment.

Hawkins = 4 marks 8 handballs against Carlton,
Mooney not much better = 1mark, 1goal, 3 kicks, 3 handballs, 1 tackle
Kosi = 4 marks, 3 kicks, 8 handballs, 1 behind , 2 hitouts, 3 tackles and gave away 3 frees
John Brown = 6 marks, 6 kicks , 2 handballs, 1 goal, 1 point, 3 free's away.

Goddamit none of these performances would have been enough to push us over the line.
If only we had Scott Gumbleton ( rolls eyes so far back can see my brain ).

Stats are irrelevant. Let's say he brings the ball to ground 4 times and from this we gather 4 crumbing goals. No stats will be recorded, but he's had an impact on the play.

People need to realise that it's very easy to suggest Player X would have done a better job when Player X wasn't there. You have no way of backing this up. Rhys Stanley will not come in and be a multi goal option straight away. So how long does he get? Does he get 10 weeks because he's a new player and we then discover he's not the answer? Keep some perspective. Just try it.

Where is the 'applaud' emoticon? :thumbsu:

I love that phrase "bringing the ball to the ground" as tho the most important role of the forward was to put the ball back into dispute.
How bout stressing "taking a chest mark"
SaintsSeptember, u have used several stats of full forwards on losing teams and one of Brown's rare poor games.
To end the angst of those that fear we are becoming too negative on here, i wont say anything more till after this weeks game.
Just remember the lesson of Krypton, nobody believed it was doomed until it exploded :D

I used all of the Stats that were available from the AFL for those players last week ( I didn't select or leave out Stats that may have made Kosi look more favourable ).
I think you will find that Hawkins in particular is in poor form, and he may well get dropped since the Cats have other viable options.
If they didn't have Podsiadly though, Hawkins would be getting selected.
If we had Podsiadly and Mooney I would suggest that we drop Kosi.

I don't mind Stanley coming in, but Kosi is not the player to drop to get him there.

Look at what's happened.

Kosi reported - Sam Fisher came in. Tall Forward out / tall defender in.
Riewoldt Injured - Raph came in. Tall Forward out / defender in.
Kosi Back - Gram out. Tall Forward In / defender out

= 1 Tall Forward out + Extra defender in.

The answer to this is that we need a 2nd forward target. It seems that its meant to be Goddard. But we can easily bring in another one ( obviously not this week ) without dropping Kosi.

I think we need Kosi in the centre square this week at least against Roughead.

Looks as if the Dogs will leave Minson out.

I think he's a great player putting pressure on in the middle. Would rather see him drilling somebody with a massive hip/shoulder this week than dropping marks down forward.

He led the comp for contested marks last year, so he is not bad at those either.

The former No. 2 draft pick has finished in the top 10 in St Kilda's best-and-fairest only once. That was his first year, 2001, when 197cm Koschitzke finished ninth.

In five games or 162 minutes playing on the miserly full-back (Lake), Koschitzke has kicked only one goal.

Former teammate Justin Peckett said the increasing complexity of the modern-day game had not helped an old-fashioned footballer who plays his best when he runs and jumps with unbridled freedom.

"I think he's more of a ruckman who can go forward, not the other way around," Darcy said.

Lake is in their side though, and he's going to play on someone.
If Kosi was in the ruck who would Lake play on? How much would they score?

Lake's the best FB in the comp IMO. With King and Gardiner in the team I doubt Kos will play in the ruck and at FF Lake will go to him. Morris will go to Milne. Going to be a tight day at the office IMO. Were going to desperatley need goals from mids and mid forwards like Shnider, McQualter, Dal, Goddard and Joey if were going to win tonight.

+ Armo, + Steven, + Fish + Gardiner, Hell we'll probably need Dawson to kick one.
