The legions of Star Wars fans will be pleased – a new Knights of the Old Republic is on the way. EA has confirmed that a new KOTOR will be made, and that satellite studio BioWare will make it. This will be in addition to the studio’s previous commitments to make Dragon Age, new Mass Effect games, and a still untitled MMO.

Great news that Bioware is behind the project, and even better news that it's not a MMO which I was dreading it would be.

I am a happy man today. Thank god Bioware are taking the franchise back for themselves too.

Now that Bioware are part of EA, any chance this might make it to PS3 as well? Either way, it will be awesome. I just hope it isn't as short or repetitive with the side missions as Mass Effect was.

A PS3 version would certainly be on the cards I suspect. EA would make sure of that.

The side quests in Mass Effect were a let down, but if previous KOTOR games are to go by in terms of side quests then we are set for a real treat.

KOTOR 1 was the reason I traded my PS2 in for an Xbox - probably my favourite game of all time.

And the burning question: Will HK-47 be making a comeback?

For me KOTOR 1 is up there in my all time favourite games list.

Nothing beats HK-47 calling Malak a 'meatbag' or offering his assassination services everytime Revan has a conversation with someone

You have no idea how happy this post has made me. I am incredibly excited now, the last two games were unbelievable. They are so much fun to play, and the entire concept of exploring the universe, going good or bad and interacting was just awesome.

Any ideas where/when this one will be set? We've seen the jedi order on the verge of exctinction twice now hehe

Yeah great news.

Personally i hope it uses the Mass Effect combat and dialogue systems tho, which were a great improvement on the original KOTOR games imo.

If bioware do as good a job on this as ME, it'll be a winner

I hope they stick with the star wars d20 ruleset like the other KotOR games. I know how it works and like the system. Maybe they could open it up a bit more ala Neverwinter Nights.

I agree that it's good that Bioware is back, however obsidian done a pretty damn good job on KOTOR2. The ending was gimped because lucasarts rushed it out the door to release it for the holiday season. However, they left a bunch of files on the PC version that were to do with the original ending. A mod on the PC is being made to restore KOTOR 2 to it's intended original glory...
