Tragic, was looking forward to taking on a KP lead england in the ashes, amazing batsmen and all the flair in the world.

KP may have his haters, he is a Mercenary, a cocky bastard and destroyed us in 05, but he is great for the game of cricket, top notch entertainment.

The question remains, who has the minerals to step up for the poms???

Cook? Bell? Strauss? Flintoff? Why doesnt anyone want the job?

Agreed, he is a fantastic personality in the game. Would have been great fun.

Its a poisoned chalice, would keep Cook for away from it
Flintoff wouldn't want it after last time
Bell is lucky to still be in the team and Collingwood has no certainty

Only plausible choice is Strauss

Will he drop out of the team as well or just hand back his captaincy?

and say Cook or bell gets the captaincy that would mean they have 4 former captains and then a captain in their 11, not good for morale really

Yeah, KP was always too volatile.
The boys seemed to love and listen to him though, and he publicly showed faith in his players (harmi and jones)
cook is too young
bell is lucky to be selected
Would struass take it though? and ive always considered bell mediocre so he shouldnt be considered but who else is there?

don't see why Strauss wouldn't take it

There is no one else as you would prefer the captain to be an established player who is a certain selection in the side.

That leaves Cook, Strauss, KP, Flintoff and Harmison

Are you serious? He's their best batsman by a fair margin, why would they drop him?

Not dropped i meant did he resign from the team too, as in did he srop himself?

Wasnt strauss captain before the last ashes then replaced by Flintoff? and was left somewhat bitter?

Either way he would be the best choice i think

I think he was coming from the point of view as to whether Pietersen would continue making himself available for the side.

That hasn`t always been England`s way though.

They have had captains in the modern era who didn`t warrant selection in the side on merit alone.

Doubt if they would go down that path again in 2009 however.
