Kreuzer development, serious question?

I don't get this

He is 23, still a pup in rucks terms, came back from a knee last year, and had 116 SC pts on the weekend, and people think he's not any good ???

He's scoring 116 pts and he's nowhere near his prime. Wait for a couple more years and he will dominate

I think the club probably felt after taking Murphy and Gibbs and Grigg they probably needed a sure bet Ruck. Hampson always was a risk.

All the move for Kreuzer which I like is to CHB. He would be brilliant their and All Australian.
His discliplined, athletic, hard, good hands, calm and will provide run.

Imagine this back 6.
Hendo Jamo Touhy
Yarran Kreuz Laidler.

Have to agree with Faz2000.

With the benifit of hindsight we would be looking very good with Jacobs, Warnock and Hamma as our rucks and Cotchin in the midfield with Murph and Judd (or even Dangerfield and Josh Kennedy ), but who was to know hamma would be servicable, Warnock would be availible and Jacobs would come on like he did.

But Kreuzer isn't and won't be a dissapointment. Every team has made mistakes/passed over players. IMO we should continue to draft the best availible talent with picks 1-40 and fill holes with mature age recruits or recycled players with later picks, rookie draft.

NO MORE TRADING PICKS FOR PLAYERS!

Good drafting = sustained success!

I'll take hindsight a step further. Give West Coast pick 1 and 3 for Judd and keep Kennedy. Fair chance our flag odds would drop considerably. We had Fev at that stage so we probably thought we were on the right track trading Kennedy and getting Kreuzer. With Warnock, Hammer and possibly Jacobs together with Kennedy there'd be alot of us who'd take that right now. WC would've taken Kreuzer and then probably not have taken Nic Nat. No crystal balls with recruiting though.

At the time though we needed Kreuzer alot and was very happy to take him at that stage. He will turn out well.

No quick enough would be a disaster, the number 1 attribute a key defender needs is leg speed.

I dont know how people are actually questioning kreuzer. He is coming off a knee reco, is very young still, what do people expect? Luenberger probably the best comparison to kruezer in terms of position selected in the draft, took about 6 years to come good. Give the bloke a break.

Also i think alot of kreuzer work goes unnoticed. he puts a lot of bumps, alot of pressure on the ball carrier, tackles, chases, everything! things that go unnoticed. He would be an extremely hard trainer which would lift the others around him.

He is out of contract , will be interesting to see what they offer him.

At the moment I would think 3 years at $350k, with performance incentives for top 5 finishes in the B&F and All Australian selection enabling him to earn upto $500k per season.

Yep.

I would give hims some training as a lead up forward, and work on his marking which is essential for a tall in defense.

Hampson to spend A LOT MORE TIME at full forward with Warnock rucking and the hammer / kreuze rotating around the ground (forward <-> back) to mess with peoples heads.

Don't mind him running up the ground as a ruck-rover type racking up SC points and smashing few bodies at contests in the process. Right now, the way the game is being played as a contested rolling maul, and in terms of what we need, Kreuzer would be good in that role.

Think WC wanted Cotchin to replace Judd. Cotchin is a star, but imagine Kreuzer and Naitanui playing together after Cox retires. That would be scarier than Norf's so called meat grinder of hard mids.

It's funny that everyone argues you should pick a KPP early and draft for need because mids are easier to find. Yet if you take a ruck, then this go tall group think and policy just goes right out the window.

guys 23 years old...why are we buying into the richmond hype...just because they are up and about all of a sudden people are looking at kreuzer as no1 pick as being a dud and the pick of cotchin being some masterstroke......lets judge this in two years time when kreuzer is physically starting his prime - also judge it when its fair to compare different positions.

It will be so close the story will end up being 'are these the best 1/2 draft picks ever' and not 'carlton stuffs up 07 no1 pick'.

No masterstroke - pretty sure Kreuzer said in a recent article that Richmond told him they were going to take him if they had the No.1 pick as well.

Guys maybe thread is harsh but again another average game.

It's now clear he is injured so why the hell play him , he is having zero impact on the games and surely this can't be good for his knee playing when injured.

My god I heard his knee is getting drained weekly? This is crazy if true.

Our tall options have been limited for much of this season due to injury. As we know he was going to be rested for the GWS game until Warnock tweaked his hamstring. Of course our recent run of losses has made it even harder to give a rest to anyone that might need it. Fortunately we have a bye coming up, so the likes of Kreuzer, Judd, Jamo & anyone else who have been playing under duress from injury can have a freshen up.

Rest him now one week isn't going to be enough. Judd and jamo are playing reasonably well he isn't so let's give him an extra week.

Love Kruz but not sure what we get out of playing him when so injured. His impact has been low

Sooner bring Bower in to play down back, then have Hendo up forward, to let Kruz recover.

Only problem is if Warnock doesn't come up this week, can't have Hammer rucking on his own

Played okay last night pinched a couple of goals and had twelve or so stats, similar output to cox.

Someone tell number two pick nic nat ruck man take time to develop... What a player

A solid supporter takes time too. A genuine Carlton supporter cops the losses and applauds the wins. You seem to be on the bottom rung of evolution and not going very far fast. You want it all yesterday and when it doesn't happen, out of the cot with the rattle and nappy. Give the posting a rest, nothing makes you happy but whining and it's painful for innocent others to endure.

Not at all I just think we should be challenging for the flag by now not fighting it out for 9th to 12th.

For some reason people like yourself think everything is perfect when we lose five out of six.

Given you think everyone's doing great explain why we have talent to win flag and are 6 and 6.

eloquent, succint........

Whether we have the talent to win a flag is a fairly subjective issue I suppose. Certainly we would like to think we do.
Objectively though, we haven't won a flag, and we have been cruelled by injuries.
The injuries we have had have massively exposed some deficiencies in our team, and possibly showed up some psychological flaws.
Having said that, I don't think anyone thinks it's perfect, but sometimes things go wrong.

It's pretty simple - we don't. Now, you can quit your carping and bleating and do what everyone with a brain and a jot of realism is resolved to doing - take any positives out of the rest of a season fast slipping down the gurgler.

Perhaps with the right management he is slowly getting better with his knee. I thought on Thursday night's game he looked to be moving a bit better. Actually even in the Cats game there was a passage of play where he was moving at top flight through the middle like a midfielder, which I haven't seen him do for quite some time.

Just need to be patient here. Whilst beaten in hitouts he still had some decent overall impact the other night and looks to be moving a little bit more free and now he gets a rest during the Bye. He's got a fine mentality and a lot of talent, he'll be alright :)
