Absolute disaster for the pseudo left.
Worse for the future of Labor, cos Latham ended up embracing the pseud position.
Bob Brown will put a spin on it, but the Greens did badly. They only picked up the collapsing Democrat vote. They could only get one new Senator up, instead of the three they were hoping for.
It's distinctly possible that the Govt will have a majority in the Senate.
The FFP has now emerged as the counterweight to the Greens, replacing the Dems.
The Libs get Malcom Turnbull, we get Peter Garrett. However detestable and odious Turnbull is , he is a heavyweight. Garrett will only alienate the mortgage belt even more than they obviously are already.
The media had blahed so much about Turnbull losing. In the end he won comfortably.
Wilkie got 17 per cent of the vote in Benelong. But Howard only got a 3.5 swing against him. Where did the bulk of Wilkie's vote come from? It must have been the Labor Party. Unreal.
The result in Victoria ... unbelievable. There was a time not so long ago when the john howardl Lies campaign would have got some traction in Victoria (as it should have. Instead we went the other way.
If Labor continues to clamp itself to the Greens and pseudo left, the Coalition will be entrenched for the next 10 years minimum.
It's a tragedy, because Latham had so much promise. I was going to vote for him myself, even with my national security reservations. But the unbelievable political stupidity of his blanket endorsement of the Green old growth position reminded me that he'd chosen to go pseud. So I did my normal "informal" vote.
Now watch for comfortable W win to cap it off.
