That makes it an astonishing 12 seasons in a row with at least 13 votes for Pendlebury. No one else in history close to that streak.
Insane consistency, jeesh! I can't think of many, if any modern day player that has been so consistently elite and durable

Shows how much of a joke the Brownlow is. I wouldn’t have in the top 10 players in the league...he’s not even the best players at his club.
you taking the piss surely?

Got coaches award. MVP.
I see him as their best plater.

Andrews and Zorko for me, but I recognise it’s line ball. Umps have their favourites, Collingwood are always poorly treated...Neale for me isn’t as impactful as he could be connecting with forwards. When do defenders, rucks or forwards ever win?

Hence my original comment that the Brownlow is a joke.

Zorko has been pretty bloody average this year.

The Brownlow is a bit of a joke because it's purely a midfielders award, but Neale has been the best mid this year

Are you serious?
Yes I think the Brownlow is a joke, in recent times Bucks and Swan were robbed...prior to that from a Collingwood perspective I’m not sure but given how few Brownlows we have as a club, I’d say it’s not a credible system.

it’s an award for midfielders, some players poll well every year.Moore and Andrews, Natinui had better years than Neale.. were they close? I suspect not...

Neale is not the best player in the AFL, not even top 5. But he is a very, very good player. I think in terms of matchday influence, you gotta have the mid/fwds whose stats aren't fully reflected in disposals.

In terms of the order of mids I'd pick for a hypothetical finals game this year
1. Dustin Martin
2. Nathan Fyfe
3. Christian Petracca
4. Lachie Neale
5. Marcus Bontempelli

Neale polls really well because:

(1) Brisbane came top 4, unless you're truly a standout, the 3 votes go to a midfielder on the winning team as a default
(2) Noone is there to contest votes. Zorko is too inconsistent. Lyons is the same player but less productive.
(3) He's an inside/clearance midfielder

Pendlebury absolutely deserved 1 if not 2 Brownlow in his career (2010-2013), but he didn't satisfy factor (2). Beams and Swan consistently polled 15-25 votes in these seasons, and Pendles still ended up in the mid-high 20s. This year, the 2nd best player at the Lions was Lyons on 9 VOTES.

Yes, better than Grundy and Moore.

Neale is the #1 midfielder in the competition right now, no question.
It really isn't even a question. Its bizarre anyone is questioning the validity. Prob has been since early part of this year.

I just did a quick cut n paste of neale's and adams' stats for the year.... unfortunately the columns dont align up too well.....as neale won the brownlow and adams hardly got a vote, it should be easy to pick who is who...

What does the thread title mean, kudos?

You're unhappy about no one starting a thread?

Should've not bitched & just started the ****ing thread earlier yourself!

He's awesome. He's like Joel Selwood at his peak - without the dislikability. Can't believe anyone wouldn't rate him in the top half a dozen in the game.

And he's what, 26?
He was good last year, but has taken his game to a new level this year, in a year where some players have dropped off.

Neale wins in every stat except tackles, and kicks more goals.

Neale also has considerably more inside 50's and score involvements, a much better disposal efficiency, much less clangers and much more metres gained per match.

Though their opponents sometimes have as much influence.
They do get a free ride in that respect, but the reality is that generally the best players play midfield (Danger and Dusty aside) and they are involved in more contests than any other position, so they have more impact on the result of games.
