Yep, actually works in our benefit. If we played this week and lost, it would be a race against time to get him fit for the semi finals.

he is in a race against time to play next Thursday though.. why couldn't the AFL give us a Friday night or sat arvo game.... haha

Would work better if we had the Saturday night game.

Need a wildcard playoff to give us something as well. I feel a weekend full of family and wine coming up :)

Yeah, having my first fathers day and being able to think about doing things on a weekend that don't revolve around football is pretty good.

"Can we go to my sisters house Saturday night?"
"NO! Are you crazy? Essendon are Playing Richmond and that affects Adelaide so were going to sit here and watch the whole thing."

The bye was brought in for so called integrity issues and it has only increased them as there is now a distinct disadvantage for the teams that win the qualifying finals. The Afl also now realise that it has killed momentum for the finals. Will be gone next year and should never have been brought in without proper consultation with the clubs.

I honestly couldn't give a shit if one or two clubs each year rests 10 players the week before finals. Each AFL season in its entirety is one big chess match and best of luck to whoever wants - and has positioned themselves to be able - to do that.

it's given us a break with Sloane this year, and kind of helps with the fact that we're going to be shafted by a Sunday night game in Perth every second year for the rest of eternity... but I still don't like it.

Amen.

I don't get the gambling argument either. Surely the people placing bets can see the premiership table and realise that Fremantle is top and playing a dead rubber so won't be fair dinkum?

In the EPL you often have teams resting players on the weekend due to a midweek European fixture and life goes on. I'm sure there is still betting on those matches.

tail wagging the dog if ever I've seen it, as if I could care any less about the impact it has on punters and bookies... that's their problem, not the bloody AFL's.

and if the gambling industry has its hand that far up the AFL's arse (like it probably does) it ought to be politely removed anyway.
