LRT Defender >>> Forward. Why is it that he is playing forward though? Is he no longer able to play down back in a full time capacity because of injury? Is he up forward for defensive purposes? Is he there just to provide a tall target? I guess we'll find out next year when/if Tippett arrives but I would be more than interested to hear people's thoughts (might need to start a new thread/revisit an old thread...although it would make this one more interesting!!).
i think he was thrown up there when he was being used as the second ruck option, then when pyke came in with mummy the backline was already set with two big defenders and we needed a tall option up forward.
His defensive presence there also really helps, and the fact that he does everything doesnt hurt. Very underrated outside the club, a bit stiff not to get the brownlow/norm smith double in each of our granny winning years

Our strategy had to be an ultimate attempt to keep him. Show him lots of public love and that everything coukd br worked out to the extent we would redraft him if we coukd not trade him. Tippett and sydney had to believe this to be a real option.
Exactly! You come out in the media and say Tippett is a great player and whilst we are unhappy to see him go we want to work together to get a mutually beneficial trade. Based on other somilar trades we think a pick around 10 is about right. If that can't happen we know that Kurt is still well respected by our playing group and everyone knows he has a great working relationship with Walker so we would gladly take him back if it comes to that.

The Swans now have to make a trade. We could have worked out a better deal than 23 + White but we didn't have to. If we didn't want to improve on that, you don't care. We can't just hang around and with a bit of luck you get us to pull out knowing we can't get him in the PSD. Then suddenly Brisbane and pick 8 (or whatever it is) start to look attractive.

It was like we were playing chicken and the Crows veered off the road before we even put the keys in the ignition.

Anyway, it's all hypothetical but we just had the easiest trade ever for a top player because we were completely in control from start to finish.

You guys were screwed by GWS as well. I hope your club had no involvement in that because it would have been another mistake. A lot of Crows fans thought it swung things there way but it did the opposite. Them saying they were interested allowed Kurt's people to say no. Perfectly legal. This then removed the PSD threat. No way they would pick up a player that already turned them down. If they had said nothing the Swans would be sitting around going WTF will GWS do in the draft? Even if they said, we won't trade for him but if he was available in the PSD then we would have to think about it then Tippett can't say no I won't play for them. Draft tampering.

I actually think that you may get more out of White than many Crows supporters think. Whilst we have good record of giving players a second chance, I actually think a lot of it is because we are always willing to take the risk. Any player on an AFL list can play. We give guys a second chance. Josh Kennedy wasn't a spud at Hawthorn. We just gave him the chance to show how good he really is.

You guys did the same thing with Stevens. White has a lot of talent and if you give him a second chance and get the best out of him you will have a gun.

Someone tell me where crows fans got the idea gws offered pick 3
THE Giants have entered the race for Kurt Tippett after trade talks between the Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans appear to have stalled.
Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni said they were prepared to use their wealth of first-round draft picks to entice the Crows power forward to Greater Western Sydney.

"The Crows certainly know we've got some interest in him," Silvagni told The Daily Telegraph.

As the trade period enters its second week, the Swans appear to be struggling to meet Adelaide's demands for Tippett.

That opens the door for the Giants, who clearly have more aces up their sleeve.

Sydney, the reigning premiers, have only picks 22 and 42 to offer the Crows, while the Giants have picks one, two and three as well as 12 and 13.

"Other than the No.1 pick, which we certainly want to hold, the other picks are up for trade if something worthwhile came across the table," Silvagni said.

"When you're giving up those sorts of picks you are obviously looking for a quality player. We'd be looking at a key position type.

Fingers crossed this deal gets done today,as much as jesse white & a draft pick isnt wat tippett wud b worth but meh. I dnt care, just want this over & done with so both clubs can get bak on track. I honestly think tippett gone wnt affect the crows to much & both clubs have a big season in 2013. I happy with Jesse White, ya neva kno he might come out of no where like josh kennedy haha.

Surprising and pleasing attitude towards the whole saga. What most Sydney supporters are seemingly forgetting is how depressed we'd all be feeling if a Reid, Jack etc wanted to leave and only nominated one club. Remember Jolly? It sucked!

If (and it's still if) we get Tippett for White & our first round pick then it's a bargain basement price, there's no denying that. I'll be hoping White goes well at the Crows, maybe it'll finally click and he'll play 150 games for them.

It'll be good when this is all settled and both supporter bases know where they stand, and we can get back to celebrating our flag.

Caven44, fair enough. We don't need to agree. I think it's worth taking a look at how Collingwood got better deals for two players vastly inferior to Tippett. Different situations obviously and if the shoe was on the other foot maybe it would have gone down the same way but the way they did it shows how to get the best deal. The fact that your club thinks they got screwed by Tippett is irrelevant - no-one is going to look it it and go "oh, Kurt lied to you. Fair enough, have a top 5 pick".

Both these reasons. Regardless of team balance, personel recruited or a great depth of stocks will always be apart of best 22. Possibly the best competitor in the side.

Very happy if the trade gets done and White is all we lose. I loved White and he will be a good player in a more attacking team like Adelaide, I did say this would be our best option Pick 22 and White so quite happy.

White for Tippett, straight swap you think?

Withdraw 22 as a penalty for Adelaide being unreasonable...

would be hilarious, and I half hope we do it and just gamble on PSD
Nice "White" text. Also looks like you'll be needing to change that username :thumbsu:

i have no problem with white. im sure he always tried his best for us, but this idea of having a good reputation at the trade table is a bit vague for my liking. I'd like to know where it has actually helped us in a trade? I don't buy it and i think we're giving up too much. Not from the point of view that tippett isnt worth it but from the position of the two clubs in terms of their bargaining power, especially when one considers that we do not NEED him. we did get reid with a later pick than 22 from my recollection.

GWS are never going to offer pick 2 or 3 and are unlikely to offer 12 and 13 for Tippett but they made a public statement after teams and supporters were upset at the number of first round picks they had accumulated.

They suggested they were prepared to trade picks 12, 13, 2 and 3 for the right player to reduce anger towards them and reading between the lines i take the right player as one who is contracted and they rate very highly probably elite Players like Fyfe and Buddy would be required.

The story did start off by talking about Tippett and said if Sydney cannot close the deal they were interested but im sure they wouldnt trade more than picks 12 and 13 and only if they were feeling very generous. Any likely offer from GWS would be 12 or 13 and nothing else.

Teams just dont trade young elite or very young and very good players if they have a choice so GWS are in no danger of trading those picks.
