Tippett was fantastic until his injury this year, he was the only ruckman in Gawn's ballpark but the injury changed everything.

Sydney would be crazy to trade him in my opinion, but, only they know how tight their salary cap is and they may see Tippett as a sacrifice to keep Mitchell.

Problem is he seems to get injured nearly every year and his knee seems to be an ongoing problem for him. Pity because he has never really got to put it all together and only given us glimpses. I still remember the prelim where he nearly beat Hawthorn off his own boot and they were dominant at that point.

He was far and away Sydney's best ruckman before he got injured and as a bonus he's a competent forward too. Surely if Sydney need a cap dump to keep Mitchell they'd be more likely to offload Reid?

I think if we traded him out (Which would be ballsy list management but I think the right move) we would look to keep Nankervis as his partnership with Naismith was working really well.

It would probably improve the balance of your side, with the two young rucks and Reid/Buddy as permanent KPFs.

Reid has no value to ànyone he can't get on the field
Great. We'll take him for a pack of chips and send him to the same ballet teacher his brother goes to. She'll fix him up for us.

True, both Geelong and Swan really lacked pace/outside run on the big expanses of the G. The loss of Lovett to WC hurt them.

Hypothetically, what would you expect for Tippett in a trade?

It depends on the motivation of us putting him up for trade, if we do.

If it is purely to get his salary off our books to re-sign Nankervis & Mitchell then I would think he would go for a 2nd/3rd rounder even a throw away pick (like Cloke) as long as his salary was paid for.

If it was because another team is showing interest and making approaches to the player we could get something higher like a 2nd rounder.

I would assume if he was leaving it would be more the first scenario as opposed to the second.

He's completed 3 years of a 9 year contract, so that leaves 6 to go

He's factoring in the two year contract extension Buddy signs due to still playing at a high level on the completion of the current contract. ;)

Worth a lot more to us than others. People forget he was in AA form prior to his injury. He has come back from the injury a bit flat, it happens it was a major injury which lost him match conditioning, then he got a minor fracture in his jaw just as he was starting to get momentum and missed another week.

He will be with Sydney next year

Who would you prefer to keep, Mitchell or Tippett?

Tippett.

We have a lot of mids, we have literally 1 competent ruck if we trade Tippett (Naismith- and he is very raw still)

I would actually prefer to keep mitchell and trade Tippett. We proved this year that Naismith/Nankervis is a good ruck combination and throw in Sinclair I think that we have the ruck position covered competently.

Our mids time and time again despite the players we have get belted in games when it counts. Not to mention Mitchell still has 8-10 years of footy ahead of him and Tippett only has a couple of good years I would think.

Any idea that involves having Sinclair as a backup makes me want to throw up! No thanks. Rather back Tippo to get back to where he was in the first half this year. Ideally I'd be retiring McVeigh before trading either of them. That might be harsh, but jeez he was slow this year.

I really like Naismith. Had a great 1st quarter in the GF. I bet they wish they'd seen more of him before they signed Sinclair. Might have put him out of a job.
I agree with you about Tippett and Mitchell. You guys can cover what Mitchell offers, better than any team in the league could. Tippett is still one of the best fwd/ruck's in the game. Had a very interrupted season and yet was still ok. Admittedly you are paying him to be better than ok, but with a clean run of health, he'll be much better. In some ways I think his biggest problem is expectation. If you are expecting him to be Simon Madden or Tony Lockett you'll be disappointed, but he was never going to be them. He's still very valuable IMO

We have played 5 GFs in the last 11 years for 2 p'ships!
We have just blooded 8 new players to go forward.

Screwed?

Now tell how you think your club has been going of late?
Hey, I'd take it BUT given how good you've been during the seasons ONLY TWO (!) premierships is a little disappointing* imo.

*again, I'd love to be that disappointed

Sinclair as back up is not to bad especially considering a fit S. Reid could do the pinch hitting with a Naismith/Nankervis and no doubt with Derx getting delisted we would draft another ruckman.

I don't agree that Naismith/Nankervis is a good combination. Both showed a bit (Naismith a little more than a bit) as individuals, but both are number one ruckman who offer a bit (Naismith a little more) while forward IMO. I think Sydney would want to partner either with a more impactful 2nd ruck/fwd. One like Tippett, he'd be a really good fit in this role. Maybe you should trade....oh wait
