Excellent posting by you phantom
Jokes and rumours aside, this highlights (again) just how difficult it is to recruit someone willing to undertake such a job, especially so when a team is struggling. The time commitment is significant, the expectations high, people not on the same page, petulant and over rated players. It's a gig that is going to be continually harder to fill.

Great post , I can see clubs going in the next 5-10 years and it wont be just because of not having enough $$$ , it takes a fair bit to put teams on the park and court.
I reckon it will turn into div footy with GV the main and the joining of KD and PDFL with mixed divisions , look these are just my thoughts but hopefully lm wrong.

Isnt thats what the points system and proposed cap are all about? Cutting spending?

I was more referring to the fact that having people help is becoming as much of a issue as $$$.
Ok id agree there doesnt seem to be as great as interest in Country Footy these days finals attendences across a few leagues seemed down last year from what I seen from the running of the Club side of things even if Clubs have 25 on the Committee its often 4 or 5 that carry the brunt of the workload.

MFL and the PDFNL allegedly had record attendance at finals and both have under 14's comps which develop a large percentage of their senior sides.
Bout time the KDFL did the same IMO .

Not sure if you know the set up of Shepp junior footy leagues (I am no expert) but school footy is now extinct.
These days kids become affiliated with a Gv side early days and unfortunately the kids that don't make the cut quite often fall away from the footy scene.. These kids are very hard to pursuade to come to "lower league" clubs due to social and often ego/social reasons!!
It's a sad reality but if multiple clubs in the league struggle to field an u/18 side how would an u/14 comp improve the league?
I wish it was that easy, but even in the last 10 years there has been less and less "local" kids playing in successful senior kdfl teams..
Just my opinion!

Fully agree with your thoughts re juniors being filtered into GV clubs and then not continuing to play if they aren't up to GV thirds . Once they go they often give the game away at 14-16 years of age .
Maybe it's time the kdfl started to try to find ways ( under 14 Comp ) to retain players within their communities and clubs.
A couple of players every year exiting a under 14's comp , going threw the ranks and hopefully on to play open age footy I would assume
Would be highly beneficial . As well as the increased likelihood of having their parents becoming involved in committees and the like .
It's a massive gap between Auskick and under 18's .

I have had a few goes at this issue over the years.

A couple of ways to get rolling...

1. Utilise current teams like Tabilk (Nagambie/Avenel) and SGR Giants (Stanhope/Girgarre/Rushworth) as the foundation teams, neighbouring teams then work together to start their own with some support from major towns. Lancaster/Merrigum, Ardmona/Undera, Violet Town/Longwood. Leaving Murchison and Tally to have a go on their own.

8 team competition that could grow as player numbers change.

2. Start at Under 10 level where the requirement is now only 12 a side, progress up to Under 12s (15 a side), then to Under 14s.

Youve highlighted how tough it would be to make happen. They would play more games in the comps they are in now which is more beneficial.

A simple short term solution that could be enacted immediately is to allow players u/14 to u/18 to nominate a second club to which they can be registered. This would allow players that are missing out on a game to stay with their main team but still get a run. How many late developers are we losing from the sport because they are a little slow, small or ungainly and don't get a chance to develop because they can't get a run on the ground. Take it to your executives, the Hub etc and make it happen now before another season gets away.

Given the previous posts about difficulty in getting helpers around footy clubs it would be difficult to get things started. SDJFL has shown some interest in including KDFL clubs in the sunday under 14s competition, even if they were combines such as Stanhope/Girgarre/Rushworth in the campaspe competition. Might be time to employ a junior development officer in a part time position to oversee the first few years.

Another good recruit to the Redlegs in former Blighty gun, Tristan Wilson. Good luck, Trist.

Did Tristan Wilson also have a stint at Lancaster?

I don't support junior leagues , they become a kidding minding service and do absolutely nothing to improve senior player numbers or club volunteers .

Youre kidding arent you.. teams are struggling to field u18 teams with kids u14... let alone getting enough for both. Not sure where youre from but kids in our area dont just magically appear and want to play footy... its just not the 'right of passage' that it was

Link Wellington is heading back to Tatura as playing coach.
That's massive news mib gee what a loss not only for the gum but Kdl footy we have seen so far quite a few gun players leaving the comp and unless teams start to recruit some big names the Kdl won't be up to last years standard I'd think !!

The gum have lost another quality player, and lost their starting midfield! Will they be up in the top 3 this year? Massive loses for them and haven't heard of any ins?
