What about as a start

Div 1

Div2
Murray
Div 3,4,5
Mix of Kdfl, Pdfl (both) and maybe a real struggling Mfl side can be in Div3

The promotion/relegation system works in the VAFA where both grand final teams are promoted and the bottom two relegated. In some other leagues sides have lamented being promoted as they struggle to match the budgets of clubs in a higher division. Outside of pushing elite pathways, how much effort does the AFL really put into country leagues? Where I was in NSW last year GWS sent players out to country league clubs' junior training. Does this happen in the AFL's heartland? Most AFL training is held during the day, why can't a handful of players be driven or flown out to country areas to really promote the game?

The KDFL is in pretty good shape as is. Some pressure needs to be put on Ardmona to meet some guidelines off the field to make them mote competitive on the field and Longwood are probably the only other worry. I think Undera will bounce back next year theyve done it before after a poor Season or two.

I think Promotion and Relegation is should happen in the GV league however the Teams in the Shepparton News article, I disagree with.
VAFA has got it spot on seeing they have 5 or 6 league(If I remeber correctly)
I do think Jobbytonny system is slightly better thou in our area.

I do think the Picola have the right setup (Senior, Ressies, U17, U14)and it is working wonders for the club

With me saying Div 1 having no ressies perhaps they could have girls sides , I think there is a opportunity at the moment, maybe align with certain schools.
Also with junior boys maybe
Div 1&2 U19
Div 3,4&5 U17 & U14.

Would 3rds or twos be better played mid week

Money from the Afl to be funnelled to country teams , even as a loan to upgrade facilities, lights , rooms , grounds etc.

I think there needs to be some change , I'm not sure how much but purely on numbers we need something to change or be freshened up

3rds and 2nds played mid week?? Gates Canteens Bar atmosphere would be shot to pieces plus the extra hours required by administrators trainers etc. The Country Footy/Netball model is great from time to time hurdles will arise but nothings perfect.

Just trying to think outside the box Doc, and when you said kdfl was in good shape , have a chat to all the twos coaches and for that matter thirds coaches see how they think it's going and if it's in good shape.

You we're thinking right outside the box. The numbers issues you alude to is in many country leagues so not a matter of the KDFL being in worse shape. All clubs have Reserves are we without a forfeit to this stage? And 11 out of 13 Clubs have 3rds and I think its fair to presume if Nagambie ralliy harder they could get one next year.

Avenel over Tally by 12
Girgarre over Rushworth by 7
Lancaster over Undera by 54
Murch-Toolamba over Longwood by 48
Stanhope over Violet Town by 19

Tally by 23 over Avenel Redlegs will get a few players back in. Lancaster by 133 over Undera the Bats were ruthless at Longwood a fortnight ago and should do the same. Murch by 65 over Longwood first win for the year and Stanhope by 38 over VT they are very hard to beat out there.

What a joke if this is the case, people play football for mates and fitness(Some WANK3Rs chase coin), if they don't wont to play who cares, there are plenty that would stick there hand up to play and loved to play, should not be enforcing people to do some thing that's not a full time JOB. KDFL is a joke.

There may only be 2 clubs without 3rds sides, but there are many more that don't have enough numbers. It's the only part of the league that needs looking at

Before the likes of Rushworth, Stanhope and VT came in over 20 years ago there were 10 teams and only 6 of them had 3rds teams so it's actually improved over that time. I do agree that it's something that the league and Clubs need to work on but it's nothing new that requires some radical new league or too push it out to Under 19s.

Let's be honest we all have our say and throw around ideas but at the end of the day can we stop change, if the Afl/ VCFL want change they will get there way .
There are to many people talking change for there not to already be some sort of discussion about it from above.

How many Reserves players are fronting up just to make numbers and winter hasn't hit yet? Twenty years ago sides were still putting eighteen players on the ground, now we "negotiate" down to fourteen. Several of the current U/18 teams are relying heavily on permit players just to make the bare fourteen. There have been no forfeits...yet but an affiliated Club has been relegated from Senior football which is unprecedented in this competition. The KDFL may not be worse off compared to other leagues but that is because everyone else across country Victoria has also been trying to stem the bleeding. There is no excuse for competitions based around major regional centres to struggle as populations have increased markedly, but they are and the AFL needs to get off its clacker and stop taking the state that provides the players and the record numbers of supporters and AFL Club members for granted.

I've always been of the opinion that the afl has never recognised grass roots footy in Reg Victoria.
How good would it be if the afl looked after league fees, footballs, uniforms etc. or even give us some of the assistance given to Sydney suburban football

I support the notion of a premier senior only comp and then have comps like the KDFL doing player development and feeding into these comps. Although not written development by district comps is how it worked in the past. Many young players , 16-18, would play 3-4 years of district footy and then would go and try their luck at major league and then return to district footy to assist the development of the next tier.
As junior comps have targeted more younger players , comps like the KDFL have been forced to go up to u18's for 3rds to get enough numbers. As a result these players tend to leave for uni or return to the GVFL sooner and clubs have to target GVFL fringe players at a younger age to get numbers. Instead of the majority of ex GVFL players going to district comps being over 30 many they are now in their late 20's and on more dough.
It is a vicious circle which is continually growing.
Answer :
1. Get rid of junior comps
2. District comps 3rds age group u17's
3. Assist all district comps to have auskick through to and including u17's.
2. Remove the 1 point penalty applicable to district comps (for recruiting premier comp players) for players over 30.
3. Add a 1 point penalty to any player recruited under 20 years.

I hear that 6 Nagambie players and 1 from Tally have been suspended for 1 game by the league for not playing interleague, club also fined $250 per player.
Pretty sure Dougie Wren is the tally player in question I've been told he will appeal and therefore front the independent tribunal tonight !! Wonder what the Nagambie boys will do!!
