Spot on. Two players taken in the same rookie draft, given the opportunity to try and crack the Collingwood senior team.

For those with short memories, Dwyer had been one of, if not the best player in the VFL system for years before he got picked up. He did the hard yards, never gave up, and grabbed his opportunity with both hands when it was given to him. Martin had that same opportunity, but couldn't quite get there. Whether that's due to work ethic, flaws in his game or any other factors, we can only guess, but to say that he was not given the same opportunities is flat out wrong.

People from the VFL had been crying out for Dwyer to get Drafted for about 3 Seasons before we Rookied Him

Point is had Martin been brought in and given a better chance when he was dominating VFL footy he would've made it. Last AFL game he was the sub from memory and went statless. Tough gig being a sub and expecting to star. Had he had 20 or so AFL senior games he might've made a player.

The rookies at Collingwood have been spoilt in recent years.

Most rookies take a season or two before they play an AFL game, if any.

Yagmoor got no games as a rookie, Gault got one game as a rookie ... That's normal.

Mooney got the same number of games as Martin - 6.

Players like Dwyer and Frost and Williams who got opportunities to play in their first year are unusual.

IIRC Maxwell and O'Brien and Blair and Toovey never had those kind of opportunities.

Another thing that annoyed me is how quickly we brought Seedsman back in to the seniors without playing good VFL. If you remember he was struggling at VFL and got a senior call up.

There is no justice at the selection table.

Brown gets injured for nearly all of the season, which opens up an opportunity for Frost.

Toovey gets injured which opens up an opportunity for Williams.

There are only 22 players allowed in the team. It's the selection commitee's job to pick the best 22 players who will win a game. If a player isn't amongst that best 22, then that's bad luck for the player.

Incredibly courageous act. Much respect.

Rookie list though. Hard to know what to believe.

Dont really know why we are talking about him really. Dont really understand why a rookie listed player who didnt make it attracts so much discussion
We aren't. You quoted my post from nearly 2 years ago. The topic now is how he went in to a burning building to save people.
