This kid looks like a ball magnet! he's gotten BOG for the first two VFL games of the year. obviously the first was the practice match but still very impressive.

Both games hes gotten over 30 disposals and kicked multiple goals (3 yesterday). He also averaged over 24 disposals a game last season.
I didn't see the yesterday but heard a few people calling him the next Micheal Barlow if given the chance. With ball and beams out I would think he would get a game in the seniors soon.

Anyway I was wondering if theirs still a spot for him on the list? because of dwyer being upgraded to the senior list can we upgrade another player as well or can you only have one rookie upgrade per season? thanks. :)

Is he better than Josh Thomas? don't know much but about him. Those stats look really good though

If he keeps up this form he will get AFL games.

All of our rookies look AFL quality it is amazing.

It looks like we will go a year without delisting a single rookie (excluding the type 2 guys like hartley) and could actually promote a bunch of them (mooney dywer martin frost)

Hudson is the only certainty to go at the end of the year. It's hard to believe Mooney will have to be the 5th in line to get a game this year! Martin has done enough to get the next opportunity.

Based on what I saw yesterday I would have him playing in front of Didak and Fasolo. Didn't like the way that either of them approached the game yesterday, too cocky and not hard working enough

*Brad Scott voice* You shouldn't be casting dispersions like that about our players.

But seriously too cocky and not working hard enough, really?
They have both had injury interrupted pre seasons and both are playing their first game back, they are clearly not at peak fitness, I was happy just to see them both get through the game.

Give a few examples of parts of play they were in where they were "too cocky and not working hard enough"

Fasolo got 25 possessions, including about 6 don't argue fend offs inside traffic. He was good and wasn't trying to be too arsey with it.

Dids was clearly managing his legs, but still accumulated 21 possies. He's always ben cocky.

Not sure what Running Bull's problem is TBH.

Martin is part of our new mosquito squad, that's clear.

Just a pity he can't get a game yet because we've filled all the rookie spots up.

He will play senior football this year though, somehow we will find a way to get him on the list (round 11 free upgrade?).

I haven't seen too much of Martin, can anyone give me some info on what type of player he is, and who in our current best 22 would be most likely to make way?

I keep thinking of Marley Williams, and bringing him up on BF. He has disappeared off the radar - for probably well known reasons - but he was elevated to the senior list and is taking up a space. I want the kid to succeed and sort out his issues, but right now he is occupying a spot that maybe could be better used. Kind of annoying to think he was elevated (rewarded) ahead of Mooney too.

ignorant statement
blokes like didak and fas have played no preseason games
they're just looking to get through
whats didak supposed to do, flog himself to death and get another soft tissue injury in his first game of the year....
bizarre

For the first time in a long time we've got a bunch of rookies who look capable of playing in the seniors. Yagmoor is the only one who looks a fair way off AFL level.

So I know if there is a LTI we can promote Martin.
Is there any other way to promote him?

Can a rookie play that hasnt been promoted?

Kyle Martin is another Dayne Beams. Slightly shorter and slightly less damaging but finds just as much ball just as easily and has that same ability inside/outside and can be a goalkicking midfielder or play some minutes on a forward flank.

Martin may have a chance of displacing Jarryd Blair with further improvement and strong play.

Fasolo was quite good i thought, i'd be suprised if he isn't given the call up this week, Thomas will come in obviously, he was a stand out, Krak did ok i thought, needs another couple of weeks though, Didak was ordinary, he needs to get a few games under his belt.

Big call re Blair but I respect your footy knowledge so not challenging it but big call nonetheless :)

It is a curious one.

Looking through the midfield we've got our a-graders in: Pendlebury/Beams/Swan. Sidebottom/Ball/Thomas who are all in that next group with Blair that only real blue-collar midfielder who may be able to be displaced.

Kyle Martin still has work to do to take Blair's position but given the role Blair plays as that inside mid/forward, this is likely the position Martin needs to take if he is to break into the side at any point because it's the role he plays most effectively. Though a forward flank role may be an option in that old Beams - pre midfield role.

Martin has come a long way this past year and a bit. Last year was his first year at VFL level coming from suburban footy and he improved exceptionally quickly. Martin last year played some dominant footy and over the second half was recognised as one of the premier players in the VFL and the first tagged every week and even despite this still accumulating effortlessly which is a great sign.

Blair has improved every year but Martin seems to be improving quicker in a shorter space of time so if he can adjust to the pace of senior football then competition for spots may become interesting.

J.Thomas is in that same boat now that he is healthy though he still likely needs another preseason of building that endurance to take a midfield position from a Blair.

I'm still thinking about Phil Carmen getting rubbed out before the 1977 grand final. I'm still frustrated that thinking about it hasn't changed what happened. I want my dummy...

May not be the right thread but Bally may be closer to the end than we think. I personally hope not.

However if he is and this is Swannys last contract, it appears we may have their replacements in Martin and dwyer and possibly josh Thomas.

Very impressed with our recruiting this year at this early stage.

After a sluggish start (understandable in his first game) i thought fasolo tried hard and was easily in our best 4-5 players. Due to management of his game time he barely played in the 2nd half however, which is maybe why you think he wasn't that good.
