We all say dumb things in hindsight at times.

Sorry but couldn't resist. I probably was thinking the same thing at the time, just didn't say it.

Just shows we should be less quick to judge. I love reading some of the old threads when Pendles was first drafted, Tooves first played in the seniors, and the drafting of Leigh Brown.

Makes me think we should have a 'My stupidest post' thread.

All that shows is if you have enough guts to make strong comments about young players sometimes hindsight will make you look silly.

Get some right get some wrong.

Thankfully Marley has turned into a super young player

Some may call it 'guts', others may call it 'stupidity'

I hope there aren't too many people who would call giving opinions on young footy players "stupidity" on bigfooty... that would be quite strange indeed. Almost as if they are on the wrong forums

I'll be gutted if we dont upgrade him and he ends up at another team then tears AFL games apart. He's obviously got enough talent to make the grade so I hope we give him a shot.

I actually think for his own good he should go to another club. Our mid field depth is too strong at the moment for him to get regular seniors time.

It would be disappointing but unless he can break in to the seniors this year and stay there I would as his manager recommend he look elsewhere.

Providing comment isn't stupid, just jumping to quick opinions about a players worth without giving them a real chance.

Like those questioning Swan's commitment after a few games in 2014. Okay to comment on the fact he is down on form, it is entirely different to question his heart based on a few games.

Geez thanks, ClaytonM, wiping a lot of egg off my face with that one. Happy for it to be nominated in a 'My stupidest post' thread. I imagine it would be an early front runner for the winner!

In my favour, however, I think I was also one of very few posters who brought up Tom Langdon's name during the off-season. He was the most unheralded of our recruits, with a few people even asking 'Tom who?' when his name was brought up. I need to go find those posts, to try and retrieve what is left of my tattered reputation...

I did hesitate before posting because I didn't want to offend. Glad to see you took it in the way it was intended.

I really like it when players prove us wrong (on the upside). Tooves is one of my favourite players because he has exceeded all my expectations.

So....can we give Marto a game soon please? Goalkicking mids don't come along all the time, and Swanny's only got another couple of years left in his beard.

Just wondering what people think we could get for Martin at the tade table. My preference would be to keep him, but with guys like Josh Thomas, Ben Kennedy, Nathan Freeman etc coming through we have to make a call at some point. I reckon he could be trade bait at the end of the season unless there is a spot on the list for him (i.e. luke ball could potentially retire). Without trying to overrate our players....i think it would be tempting to trade if someone offered a pick around 20-30.

I'm in the school of thinking its Luke's last year, he's still good but showing signs that the end is in sight and would probably like to retire without playing 1 season too many.

Will definitely be upgraded next year if he wants it. Perhaps however he might wish to look elsewhere for better opportunities. Will have to wait and see. Personally I reckon hes gone past Dwyer, and Blair is the next one in his sights.

No way we're gonna get a pick between 20 and 30 for him which basically means we must keep him

With reports that Lynch has a broken leg do we upgrade him and put Q on the long term injury list (I believe we are able to upgrade Frost at half year)?

The one query I would have on him is does he work both ways? Seems to be able to find the ball but what does he do when he does not have it? A big reason for our improvement this year is our mids are getting back into our defensive 50. Martin needs to be able to do this.

It is great to have pressure for positions.

No club will offer that. You're better off looking for a player for player swap with pick upgrades involved.

If you're shopping him around the team that screams a good fit for me is the Bulldogs. Martin is quite literally the perfect replacement for Gia.

As to what you'd ask in return nothing is jumping out at me except maybe Bontempelli or McRae :p

On a serious note maybe Howard with his left boot is an option. At the end of the day you just won't get any value for him without him playing.

The issue facing Martin is that the players in his position at a seniors level such as Thomas, Blair, Elliott, and even Sidey are all playing good football, and even then he has Kennedy and Adams to contend with as they're already on the senior list.

As much as I desperately want him to get a game, unless Thomas and Blair put a foot wrong I just don't know who he replaces at this point.

I think you could do worse than picking up Martin for a pick in the 20's. But agree that it would be unlikely someone would offer that. Richmond havent any worries picking up players from other clubs but even they wouldnt do that unless Martin starts getting gametime. As i said, my preference would be to keep him. I just think he has potential to be a 150 game player if someone gave him a crack
