But why would children be able to buy R18+ games, unless their parents buy it for them, and if that's the case, the responsibility lies purely on the parent.

Australia needs to stop taking the responsibility away from the parents to monitor what their own children do. There are alot of people over 18 in this country who should be able to buy what they want.

Even if you import the game for PC, there won't be any Australian servers and you'll have to play on laggy games with Americans.
****ed if I know. I guess it's like cigarettes and alcohol. One way or another kids are going to get them.

Only thing is the aforementioned can have SERIOUS affects to mind and body while games have been shown to have very little affect.

Up until now, most of the games that had been refused were crap, so we weren't missing out on much. Very soon, we are going to miss out on AAA titles altogether because developers simply won't sacrifice elements of their game just to cater for one relatively small market.

Atkinson, Conroy and Rudd, three stooges. If they keep forging ahead and/or persisting with these abhorrent and purely personal based policies they are introducing to the unwanting people of Australia, something is going to give.

The media has been suckered into all of this too. How many of the numerous censorship policies have made the 6pm news. Zilch, zero, instead we get rubbish about the next pregnant celebrity, or the new fluffy animal that has been introduced to the zoo.

Enough to make any informed person a bit sick tbh.

In anycase, as was once said, Censorship is like damage. We just try to find another road to the same place, as inefficient as that other path may be.

Yep, would expect Heavy Rain to as well.:(:(:(

Basically 70% of good non sport games at this rate.

With games becoming more realistic we will see more of these decisions. Hopefully Mr. Atkinson gets some kind of illness that forces him to retire.

I don't get it, it doesn't make sense to me. Do they seriously, SERIOUSLY, think that this game would have an effect on anyones personality and behaviour? If the person is not altogether there then sure, but their guardians should know better. No responsibility on the parents in this country.
I'm hoping that one day politics will be devoid of these ultra-conservative ****os and we can finally progress as a society.

Be interesting if Rann gets booted out soon (probably won't happen, Liberals here are a farce) and they have another classification vote to see which other AG's bow to the religious right.

I can see this one being over turned

If the developers care enough, and thats a big if, they will fight it using the original game as precedent.

There will be nothing at all different about this one, and hopefully the right decision will be made

Michael Atkinson's attitude towards not allowing an 18+ rating in gaming is just SO, SO WRONG that its not funny anymore

Does he not understand that by having a game (lets for example use L4D2) as an R18+ rating it makes it HARDER for minors to buy games, thus fixing the "problem" he has.....

His argument is that the parents will then go buy said games for their kids.

I've got an idea Michael, how about you let parents raise their kids, instead of basically telling them how they should parent?

Why don't we ban alcohol too, just in case the parents buy that for their 15-16 year olds too? Alcohol has more chance of killing you than a game for ****s sake

Harden the **** up Michael Atkinson, grow some balls and realise you are a big ****ing giant d****e ball with NFI!

Well said and if you're in his electorate hope you don't vote ALP.

I will be bringing this discussion up in as many possible ways as i can

I will be at a game show from October 6th-9th and will talk to the devs there and get their thoughts. I will be talking to my bosses about this, and the people higher up the chain

Something has to be done. An R18+ rating just makes too much sense for there not to be one.

Bullshit, screw the classification board they can go die in a fire. I want to play the game

OLFC is only doing its job it's the stupid fact that there is no 18+ classification that is ****ing us over.

I don't get why they don't ban racing games too. People can't get a drivers license until they are 18, and apparently games are corrupting youngsters who may copycat a violent game - so why not the same for racing games? Maybe because people would see how bloody ridiculous it is perhaps?

All this terrible censorship is going to push Australia into a downward spiral. It is no longer the land of the free. American's get a lot of criticism from many corners, but if there is one thing they pride themselves upon, its the first amendment.

Pity the same patriotism isn't in our blood. Our government apparently knows what is right for each and every one of us...

When censorship begins to impede excessively on personal freedoms, very bad things begin to happen. Evidence of that throughout history, albeit on a much larger scale. But don't think for a moment that the very essence of the social and political fabrics in Australia wont ever take a turn for the worst.

On the front page on ninemsn:
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/entertainment/865288/gamers-outraged-at-zombie-game-ban

Gamers outraged at zombie game ban

Australian gamers are furious about a decision to ban a much anticipated zombie game because it is too violent.

I'm really glad that this game got banned, because it's receiving more media attention and now something is more likely to be done than before.

It'll get released here anyway, Valve will just pay off the OFLC like what happened with FEAR 2 :).

What we end up getting however, is a lesser product. And quite often, that is an inconvenience for the developer. Eventually, game developers won't do this because after all, we are a small market, and an ant in the grand scheme of things. In summary, if we don't get our act together and stop this censorship nonsense, developers won't even bother with us.
