would it be illegal to buy it from play-asia and have it sent here?
It would be illegal if they catch you, but they never do.

I got Dark Sector in from there when it was banned here, nothing happened.

Everyone did when they got the uncut version of GTA IV.

The fine is $1000 for each item I think.

Btw, LOL AT HAWKS!!!!!!

Maybe, but hasn't stopped me before. And won't stop me getting L4D2 off Steam. And won't stop me getting other titles imported because MY government seems to think it knows whats right for me without even knowing me.

Fortunately, ill have learned melee techniques against the undead in L4D2, so that when an eventual outbreak happens ill be well versed in protecting myself while Atkinson, Conroy and Rudd are eaten alive.

Fun times ahead people :D

Good point. We're allowed to develop our cop killing and car-jacking skills, but when it comes to practicing for a zombie apocalypse...... Maybe... the government plan to unleash one upon us and don't want Valve to **** up their grand plan.

I'm calling conspiracy on this one. I'm watching you, Rudd! :thumbsu:

Correct, I've imported Dark Sector, Soldier of Fortune: Payback and GTAIV, all versions RC'd here

Nothing's happened to me

Not saying it can't, but you'd be stiff

and yes, LOL at Hawks

Nah, zombie skills wont help anyway. A recent study found if zombies were to ever attack, we are all stuffed...

I saw valve sent a appeal in, I hope it changes the decision, I want to pre-order it and get the bonus baseball bat, 10% discount and early access to the demo (october 27) :o

Hey guys, I'm doing a talk on banned video games in Australia and the lack of an R 18+ rating system for video games in Australia.

Can you help me with facts please? So far I know;

PalGN did a petition at eGames last year to get in an R 18+ rating system.
GameTraders did a survey and petition for an R 18+ rating system.
The average age for video gamers in Australia is 30.
91% of people in the survey want the R 18+ rating system.
Rowan Atkinson is the only person holding back the introduction of an R 18+ rating system.

That's Micheal.

This is Rowan.

I know... it was kind of a joke seeing how Michael Atkinson acts like a dick.head as Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) plays.

:thumbsu:.

Lol no worries. You could also tie into your report the proposed Internet Filter as a similar government introduced censorship.

Yeah will do as well thanks.

Wasn't it hacked within 12 minutes by a 16 year old boy as well?

I think that was the optional software the Howard government introduced which could be downloaded and installed on a PC to filter bad websites.

The proposed internet filter is mandatory and works at an ISP level.

Okay still on the talk issue, I have the following:

Within the next 10 years, it's projected that the average age of gamers will be 40.
Michael Atkinson is the only person holding back the introduction of an R 18+ rating system.

A 'modified' L4D2 has been sent to the OFLC.

Source: http://www.ausgamers.com/features/read/2795041
Left 4 Dead 2 came up on the cards, and we were told the situation here in Australia will see Valve continuing their appeal of the Refused Classification the game recently received. But a modified version of the game, he and Valve believe is in line with what the ratings board are after has also been submitted, as the ultimate goal will be to ensure Australia does not miss the November 17 launch of the game.

The question was raised as to what the situation would be if the appeal were eventually successful after the modified version had been released to which Gabe responded PC owners of the game would simply get a free update which would convert the game back to its original form, but couldn't specify how it would work for the console version because of all the red-tape and lengthy approval processes involved with each release and update console games go through.

Another article on the constant banning of Videogames.:(

Source: http://gamesthirstarticles.blogspot.com/2009/10/australia-has-banned-over-32-videogames.html
AUSTRALIA HAS BANNED OVER 32 VIDEOGAMES
Australia's case is different as videogames cannot be rated R18+ as the rating only exists for film. In order to be approved many games have been edited to meet the MA15+ rating because if not, the game will be banned altogether. Here's a list of the videogames currently banned in Australia:

1) Seven Sins ~ Banned because of high impact of sexual references.

2) 50 Cent: Bulletproof ~ Banned because of high impact cruelty and violence. A censored version was later released.

3) Blitz: The League ~ Banned because of drug use.

4) BMX XXX ~ Banned because of sexuality and nudity in relation to incentives and rewards. A censored version was later released.

5) Dark Sector ~ Banned because of high impact violence. A censored version was later released.

6) Dreamweb ~ Banned because of a scene of sexualized violence, however, the game was censored, and re-released with an MA15+ rating in 1996 for "Medium level animated violence."

7) Fallout 3 ~ Banned because of in-game drug use. Edited worldwide due to the insignificant change that was done. Therefore Australia got the same version as the other countries with a MA15+.

8) F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin ~ Banned because of high impact violence, Warner Bros. Interactive later appealed the decision and received a MA15+.

9) The Getaway ~ Original released uncut, more content was found that was deemed too much for the MA15+ rating. A censored version was later released.

10) Grand Theft Auto III ~ Banned because of sexual violence. A censored version was later released. The PC version was released uncut.

Others include: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto IV, Left 4 Dead 2 (refused classification as it failed to gain the MA15+ rating. Also, Manhunt 1 & 2, Shell Shock 2: Blood Trails and Silent Hill: Homecoming were banned.

“Decapitation, dismemberment” and more removed from L4D2 for Oz release

While news of Left 4 Dead clearing OFLC regulations this morning will bring relief to Down-Under gamers, it looks as though large cuts have been made to the approved version.

According to News.com.au, the ratings board has confirmed that “the game no longer contains depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment.

“No wound detail is shown and the implicitly dead bodies and blood splatter disappear as they touch the ground.”

You can read the full OFLC report here.

Melee weapons made the cut. EA’s quoted in that News.com.au article as saying it still hopes the full version will be classified. Hate to be the voice of doom, but it doesn’t look like it, does it?

Left 4 Dead 2 was originally refused classification in Australia last month.

Ouch man. BIG cuts from the game.
