Absolutely fantastic that Aboriginal names are being incorporated. Long overdue.

Absolutely fantastic that Aboriginal names are being incorporated. Long overdue.

From our kids schools, all the students love having designs from local indigenous artists on their sports shirts and the like.

Place names would be well received I think. The primary school basically has an Aboriginal place name already, while the high school is just named after the street it's on, which itself is not named after anything special.

Wait until Todman hears that William Slim Drive, named after WWII hero and 13th Governor-General of Australia, will be renamed and given an indigenous name

In 2019, it was confirmed William Slim Drive, named for Australia's 13th governor-general, the late Sir William Joseph Slim, would be renamed Gundaroo Drive. The decision was made after several men accused Sir William of abusing them while they were at Fairbridge Farm School in Molong, New South Wales in the 1950s

Well if he was a kiddy-fiddler so be it.

Why is aboriginal culture being forced into life of people who dont want it? We're more chinese, greek, and indian here these days but their cultures arent rammed down our throats. How inclusive of us /s

The plus side is this s**t does help the No vote which will be very entertaining in here if No wins

Why was British culture forced into life of people who didn't want it?

Why are you happy with that rammed down your throat?

Not sure, wasnt here but flawed logic like always with you
You won't find a country that wasnt invaded at some point.

We have our own culture now build on multiculturalism. Spare us the forced s**t for 3% of the population

Why do you want to exclude one culture?

Racist grub.

FOURTEEN NEW VICTORIAN STATE SCHOOL INDIGENOUS NAMES

So this isn’t the issue of the topic of the thread.

These are new names, not existing places re-named.

Yeah I support them being named with these names. Better than being named Kings/Queens/St Whatever’s.

Here we go. Another one outs themselves.

We have our own culture now build on multiculturalism.

Absolute and utter rubbish. Our culture is primarily based on British symbolism. Flag has a Union Jack. Anthem is a Royal Navy tune, Head of State is British. National Day commemorates British sailors landing. Second national day is when Australians died for the desires of the British. Half of TV is imported from the UK (that gives the rosy idealistic impression of the country). Most senior politicians and media figures have Anglo Celtic background (Albo is the first PM with a non Anglo Celtic last name). All states and major cities named after British figures. Our news is about 50% royal family.

To say this nation’s culture is built on multiculturalism is laughable.

Nope,

I dont want that one culture being put above all others which is what is happening more and more. Its wrong

Hope a no vote fixes that but it will only push more idiocy sadly. Might vote yes to shut it up?

'One culture put above others'. This is probably your most laughable and most deluded comment so far.

I dont want that one culture being put above all others which is what is happening more and more. Its wrong

One culture has been firmly put above all others especially Indigenous culture for 200 years.

All this is acknowledging is that a long held culture already existed here well before British people arrived.

Walk around, go to a sporting event, restaurants etc. What do you see? All ethnicities meshing, little issues, much respect shown to all. Multiculturalism at work

Do you understand what multiculturalism is? We can have a talk about Australia being multicultural when firstly they get rid of that British cr*p from the top left corner of the flag.

Is it? Literally what is happening more and more. Deluded to think otherwise tbh

Why not see things like an Acknowledgment of Country, or a place being given a traditional Indigenous name as a tradition YOU can be a part of too. As an Australian you can embrace the Indigenous traditions and culture of the nation. We all can. It can be part of what it means to be “Australian” not just “Indigenous Australian”.

Why?

Acknowledgement of country before every meeting, event, sport is just dumb. I dont respect their elders more than anyone else, nor should i have to. Im not putting their culture on a pedastal

Indigenous traditions arent my traditions so why force it? Or can we all force our traditions on others?

Bring this same energy for Diwali, orthodox easter, chinese new year etc. Will you partake or only interested in cheerleading one culture?
