It's not a good story by any means, but allegedly evading an illicit drug test and could be punised for trying to evade a PED test, where it says later in the article that ASADA didn't seek to test him or anyone else during that period? I'm confused?

He didn't know if there was or wasn't going to be one but he believed that if there was then he would fail, so he avoided being where they would expect him to be so as to prevent them testing him, ergo he purposefully tried to avoid testing.

Alternatively the AFL is a shitshow and lachie DID know he was getting an illicit drug test the next morning (article says that ASADA didn't do tests during that period, doesn't mention if the AFL did). I can't clearly recall if illicit testing is conducted by ASADA as well, but from memory I'm fairly sure it isn't (AFL doesn't want players getting pinged by ASADA for recreational drugs).

This has been going on for a little while. No doubt Melbourne media have had this one in their back pocket waiting for the right time to launch the story. If it was truly a hot story at the time it would been reported earlier than this I reckon. We'll see, but I think this will turn out to be not much at all. We don't need the distraction, but you can't stop bottom feeding journos from doing what they get paid to do.

At least it's not the day before the final.
Plenty of time to digest and prepare

Gee you read all that in that article? There must be a shite tin of words there I can't see. You must be dizzy from all that spin.

Ok, from the rather criptic and unhelpful opening post I've now read the story. And I don't get it.

Who made the allegation? And why? They talk of a "then girlfriend" - is there an axe being ground there?

Surely if you were hiding from drug testers you'd do it by staying at your girlfriend's house, or some other mate's house, not the house of a club official.

How long was he there - sounds like overnight. A migraine wouldn't keep you holed up anywhere longer than a day (I'm a migraine sufferer myself)

So he's stayed at the home of a club official one night while ASADA was not testing anyone. Club officials obviously knew where he was because he was with one.

So Essendon players get pumped full of who knows what and get 12 months (and lots of people get very upset at the length of ban) and they're talking about 2-4 years for this? Yeah.... Not so much.

I'll also wait to see what the outcome of the investigation is before I'm going to jump at any other shadows.

That's what I infer the article is trying to say. Doesn't mean I believe it. The fact it's been known for so damned long and the AFL hasn't interfered with the support staff changing clubs makes me think that it's either BS or has already been more or less covered up. The timing is very interesting though, as is the level of detail.

You might think the club has had since the middle of last year to prepare...you think?

Come on opposition posters, use your brains before posting. Or, don't bother.
That's if there's truth to the story.

Doesn't mean that Giants fans on here aren't in for a torrid time of it until the truth is revealed.

Overlooked my last line it seems. Really? Torrid time? Get some time up mate. At this point, this pretty naf. You'd clearly take great delight in it being a full blown disaster. The clear demographic of the journo who has put this piece of guess work up.

I really wouldn't.

Cool. Then let's not try to beat this up more than it needs to be. Happy for people to go nuts on the rumours thread, main board.
I defer to our mod and deleted my original post as he has posted. I' m gonna give my opionion this doesn't belong in our sanctuary though.

You won't see me beating it up mate.

There will be a lot of shit thrown your way on these boards until the truth comes out though.

That's the only reason for my OP.

Somehow I reckon there's a few of you that can stand up to the challenge though.

ASADA will only test for use of recreational drugs on match days, because that's the only time the use of recreational drugs contravenes WADA.

That being the case, if follows that ASADA cannot ping anyone for taking recreational drugs outside of match days. Under WADA, it's a non-issue.

The article actually mentions specifically: allegedly out of fear he may fail an illicit drug test.

The article appears to then confuse the AFL's illicit drug policy and WADA - pretty common mistake amongst both journalists and the sporting public.
