I think we will take him 3rd round.
Is he good by foot, i know he kicks goals which is good but can he hit a team mate???

Third rounder seems most likely because of our early second round pick but I wouldn't be surprised if we were forced to use a second, it amazes me how people (who most likely haven't seen him play) think he will be a 4th + rounder and some even rookie

Unlikely to be forced to use our second round pick, third or fourth more likely. But you never know what those idiots at St Killjoy will do, they seem to get off on giving us grief.
I think our position on young Hunter will be more based on his personality [ B Mac's ...good people philosophy]. There is no doubt the kid can play. He may not be a world beater, but he does have something to offer if his attitudes are right.

Reading that article it sounded as if teams would be willing to bid their second rounders meaning we would be forced to take him in the third round.

I fully expect us to take him with our second round pick if our hands were forced though, would be one of Macca's favourites.

Or any club use their first round pick.

For teams like Collingwood/Adelaide/Hawks/Sydney though it'll be a around pick 16-20.

Very unlikely but still possible.
If any club bids their first rounder for Hunter we should be laughing. Either he's that good and we get him for around pick 27 or he's not that good, we pass, and they let someone better slip down the order. We just need to be clear and dispassionate about our assessment of his value before the f/s bidding starts.

If he is that good I have no qualms about yet another in the Libba/Wallis/Smith mould. Best available is good enough for me.

As most here seem to agree, however, we will probably end up getting him for pick 40-something which is pretty good. Not as good as Daniher for a Bombers pick in the low teens or Viney for a Demons pick in the 20s (I still think that's a strong chance) but still something we should be happy about.

I'm not normally one to rip on the club but I'm still amazed with how poor we have handled precious F/S picks especially Cordy. To come out and say we will be matching any bids and inviting clubs to make us use a 1st rounder was so very amatuer, nothing can be gained from that. Other clubs knew we would match so of course they bid a higher pick even if they didn't want the player, they knew it would cost us a 1st regardless.

All you need to do if your keen on the kid, quietly tell him we will be matching any other bids to give him confidence and so it doesn't look like we don't want him, then just be coy with the media and not disclose what if anything we plan to match other bids with.

Annoyed me so much with previous drafts, even if we would have to use a 1st to get them and someone called out bluff, fine, but to announce it to the league amazed me. I'm glad it looks like we aren't doing it this time. Saying that, I'd love to have Hunter on board next year and using a 3rd rounder seems pretty fair, 4th if we are very lucky.

Can't see it happening for our 2nd round pick, for the reasons everyone has already said. I also like we haven't come out and committed to him, so no one knows if we'll take him or not.

I'm confident he won't be 'taken' before our second round pick, and that we'll be able to take him with our third. He's just not rated as a first round draft pick, and it would be too big a risk for other clubs that we might just let him go and take the best available.

That being said, I hope we do pick him up. Can't have too many goal kicking midfielders.

Spot on DW......Know our price and stick to it.....That said I hope we get him because the kid knows how to kick a goal

Just a beat up, if they bid on him they will end up getting him so they had better be careful. I have heard the club won't go any higher than 3rd round pick.

Yeah as it said, only GWS/Melbourne/Gold Coast can make a bid for him in the second round and any club would have to be insane to make a bid with their first round pick, but in the event a team does make a late first round bid; does that mean it'll shift to the Bulldogs picks and we'll have to decide between picking him or someone else or will the other clubs take their picks first?

We have to take any father/son selection with our next available regular draft pick after the pick the nominating club wants to use; so of course if we pick Hunter with a third round pick we cannot select anyone else with that same pick.

The other clubs have to nominate what picks, if any, they would use to secure Viney, Daniher, Hunter etc. This is all done before any trading and before the mini-draft and draft, so we can't get rid of a pick just to help use an even later pick on Hunter. The whole idea is for us to use a pick that is close to market value for Hunter, but not over the odds: therefore it will be our next regular pick after the best bid by another team.

Agree, if he requires our second rounder I imagine we'll pass on him, and our position in the media seems to be aligned to that idea. However it could just be a ploy to get other clubs to not take the chance, and maybe we could get him for a 3rd rounder/4th if we are supremely lucky.

Day 2 of the combine and Lachie Hunter posted the best time for the agility test at 8.04 seconds. Rather pleasing because unlike Vjumps/sprints you cant train for agility. Will be exciting if he has dahlhaus like untacklability (Dahlhaus hold the agility record by some margin over second best with 7.47 secs, second best is S. Hill with 7.77 secs).

8.04 is not exactly ground breaking though, even Mitch Wallis scored an 8.07 in that test. Most interested in his results for beep test, repeat sprint, kicking efficiency and new goal kicking tests.

Just out of interest what determines priorities in F/S bidding.
For example if Melbourne were to bid on Hunter, how does that affect their own F/S pick, and if GC were to bid on all of Hunter, Viney and Daniher and if dogs dees and bombers all passed (yeah i know it wont happen just hypothetically ) what would be the result, does anyone know

I think your placement relative to your peers is what is important because of the slight variations in the setup each year (ie different floors, slightly inaccurate measurements, recording devices ie non sandbox conditions), anyway probably splitting hairs in the end.

I find the beep test pretty useless tbh, Clay Smith recorded an elite score yet was out on his feet in the middle of Q3 round 1.
