This one:

"Hunter, who is playing for the Western Jets and trained with the Dogs last week, played for Vic Metro last year and is a good chance to be snared.

"He's a good decision-maker, has very good lateral movement and agility and he's smart, but he's got to work on his kicking," Dalrymple said.

Huge game by Lachie Hunter for the Western Jets on the weekend.

According to the Sportingpulse stats, he had 19 kicks (13 effective), 18 handballs (14 effective), 9 marks (1 contested), 10 tackles and 3 goals.

Wow. Clearly best on ground. Might have to fork out a second rounder (or even worst, a first rounder) if he keeps this up...

Match report excerpt:

"White and Brown boated 9 goals between them proving the can form a good pair up forward. Inglis was excellent as a crumbing forward kicking two majors whilst Lachlan Hunter was outstanding through the middle amassing 37 possessions, 10 tackles and three goals in the final term to be one of our best on ground. Elkasovic and Bench were both solid through the middle of the ground and collected 19 and 20 disposals respectively."

Feel very conflicted about Lachlan performing well, on one hand i dont want us to use our 1st round picks on him or our 2nd round on the other hand I want him to be good enough for AFL. Demons Supporters would be absolutely laughing if they didnt have to use any of their 3 1st round draft selections on Viney who is rated at 4th-8th best player of the class.

Edit: Also 71% disposal efficiency across 3 games not bad.

God dammit boy, lay down!

Let say we finnish the year 4th last. With Melbourne, GWS and GC lower than us. We'd end up with picks 5 and 6 (Melbourne has a compo pick too).

For us to have to use either of our first round picks on Hunter then GWS, Melbourne and GC would have to offer to use their first picks. Anyone else after us offering thier first rounder would mean we only have to use our second round pick.

Sounds like he could be a first round pick who we get for a second rounder, unless of course he's so good that teams want to take him within the top 4 of the draft. In that case, we get him anyway, if he's that good.

I doubt if Melbourne would nominate Hunter, as they will be taking Viney with their own F/S pick.

Our two first round picks are safe, what pick would we be for our second round pick?

My guess is that Melbourne would not be interested, as they are after Jack Viney, Gold Coast - if they finish below us wouldn't be interested if they can get one or two in the draft and GWS wouldn't be interested as they would have the number one draft pick. I reckon we should get him for our third pick.

We will be very very lucky if we get him with our third pick you would say, we would be lucky to get him with our second by the reports.

As much as I hate losing and want us to develop a winning culture and so on, pick 5, 6 and Hunter sounds very tempting, draft well here and it could very easily set up our next flag assault!

Firstly as I have said on here a few times. I want to win every game. I don't like the thought of playing for draft picks. It's still early in the season, and the only time you might play with selection to maximise the draft (tank) is late in the season when the fat lady has sung.

So while this may not be one of our better years, so far anyway, there is a silver lining. It's a year that we'll play a lot of kids, we'll play a game plan that will set those kids up to become part of a better team in the years to come. As a result we might have some bad games along the way, we'll win a few too. We then look to the draft. if we end up with 2 picks inside top 10 and that seems likely then we can go after the best available. Mids/forward/back....whoever is best. Hunter if he's good we'll get as a bonus for sure.

We can play a different style, smaller forwards and so on. But I hope we stick with the young talls, play as many through the year as we can. Keep our game plan aimed at kicking to a tall forward line. Even though we can't catch it at the moment. It will come.

Meanwhile, enjoy watching the kids and look once again to the what could be in 1 or 2 years.

What if Carlton, West Coast, Hawthorn or Geelong offer their first rounder?

#25 Western Bull Dogs- Lachie Hunter (VIC - Mid) F/S
Height: 181cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 13/12/1994
Recruited from: Western Jets
Style:
Player comparison: Clay Smith
Range: 2nd/3rd round
Profile: Lachie is yet another of those Western Bull Dogs inside midfielders via the F/S rule. Really strong inside ball winner and has a great attack on the footy winning that inside ball consistently. Solid tackler and makes his tackles stick. By hand very good and in congestion typically makes the right decisions. The big area that needs work is his kicking which at this stage really lacks the consistency and misses too many targets.

We are going to have a very hard at it contested midfield who just cant kick soon.

Lachie Whitfield and Jake Stringer who are pretty much a formality to join us when we receive picks 1 and 2 say hi.

I wish!

If there is any year to come last, its this year!

Lachie Whitfield, Jake Stringer, Lachie Hunter and then 1st 3rd round pick, 3rd round compensation, 1st 4th round pick and so on.

We could win a premiership off this draft!

Just like '99. I've no doubt the club has been aware of it for some time now.

If we finish bottom 4 and then appear non-committal about Hunter given our wealth of his type, he should slip to our 3rd round pick. For a club to force us to use a second rounder, they will need to offer their first round. Clubs are loathe to draft players in the first round if they can't kick.

So in this draft, we should get 2 top tens, a pick in the mid twenties, Hunter and a pick in the forties.
