Jets get flogged Lachie kicks 3 of their 6 goals and amoungst best again, tone it down kid!

27 disposals (by far the most of his team and 3rd most on the ground), 74% disposal efficiency, 3 goals in a 100+ point flogging yet only listed at 6th best. Is our club hiding him?, if so splendid :D.

Highly rated top 20 prospects Joe Daniher, Plowman, O'Rouke and Mcbean may not be mids, taking this into account Lachlan's stats still looked far superior.

I think we may have a player on our hands, please please please let him fall to our 3rd rounder.

The Western Bulldogs are still monitoring Lachlan Hunter, son of defender Mark, as a father-son option.

Hunter is playing for Calder Cannons and will make the Vic Metro team.

But the Dogs are facing a dilemma as he is of similar size and style to other father-son picks Mitch Wallis and Tom Liberatore.

Will Beasley, son of Simon, has given up football for rowing this year, even though he was eligible to be drafted.

Think you will find he is playing for the Western Jets.

Western Jets got thrashed again yesterday, this time by the Dandenong Stingrays. However Hunter didn't play (maybe that's why they got thrashed?)

So was he injured ... or was it "soreness"?

It was the dogs telling him to fake an injury for the rest of the year lol. I really hope we pick him up. Boyd and cross will be gone soon and Cooney will spend less and less time in the middle. So if we can have Hunter, Libba, Wallis and smith as there replacements to get the ball out we should be good. Picken is our currant tagger. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 4 replace him in that role.

I think the club is right to be cautious, as we have Libba, Wallis, Cross, as our in and under players, but we are needing outside hard runners to get the ball into the 50. We need some very pacy midfielders, and as per usual - a full forward:rolleyes:

Hunter is now playing school footy and will be taking an extended break from the TAC cup and the jets.

I dont know what is the rationale for this?, many have said school footy is better for attracting the attention of scouts but I still like to see the reasoning behind it as to why scouts apparently pay more attention to school footy.

Mostly because the school says 'you will play school footy!!!'

On the topic of f/sons ... Joey Daniher kicked 7 on the weekend. No joy for us but the more f/s action going on elsewhere the more clubs will have their picks tied up and be less inclined to look at players like Hunter (I hope).

Personally I think we should continue to encourage Hunter, invite him to training etc but make no promises whatsoever. We should be totally dispassionate. I'm not yet convinced he is a gun but if all the evidence stacks up in his favour at the end of the year then by all means pick him at an appropriate level, most likely a third round pick (our fourth or fifth pick, probably in the 40s or 50s). I can't see him needing to be one of our first two picks if we finish low on the table, and I doubt he'd be on enough clubs' radar to warrant a pre-emptive pick with our third pick (2nd round).

Unless of course he has a standout Teal Cup and stars in nearly all of his TAC /school matches, in which case we would be happy to take him at pick 25-30 (whatever it will be).

Match snippet I found;

St.Kevin's played its annual fixture against St.Patrick's, Ballarat in fine conditions on the Heyington No 1 ground. With a five goal to nothing first quarter SKC set up a good lead that it retained for the rest of the match. Despite a strong fightback in the second half, SKC was able to reply to their attack with critical goals to retain a nice buffer. Lachlan Hunter with six goals was the best player in a great team effort.

I saw a list of top 25 possibles (can't remember who wrote it, probably Sheahan in which case it's useless) and Hunter wasn't mentioned.

I have seen him described as another inside midfielder, but he keeps bobbing up with multiple goals. For those who have seen him play, does he spread well? Rest forward? Seems odd to play that sort of role and still kick a lazy 6 goals :D

Nope, St. Kevin's College. Both Wallis and Liberatore went there.

Know from experience that they do, or at least did, have a very strong 'you have to play for the school' mentality. Was a significant factor in a kid, who would later play AFL, leaving the school. It's probably the same at most of the other APS schools, scholarship or not.

All APS schools do it. They'll tell you that you must play for the school. Obviously if you decide not to they aren't going to kick you out but when you're at school you want to play with your mates - which are most likely your school mates.

Also, speaking from experience, it means a lot more beating Scotch or Geelong Grammar than it does the Western Jets or Geelong Falcons.

Last week

A great start to the season, with all boys contributing. Our defenders did well to restrict Geelong to 8 goals, with Meehan, Matheson and Ross prominent. Our on ballers fed the forwards, with Hunter kicking five goals and Dolan 4. Best Players: N Meehan, C Matheson, L Ritchie, L Hunter, R De Biase, B Kanakis Goals: L Hunter 5, M Dolan 4, B Kanakis, J Tighe, J Dimattina 2 each, L Ritchie, A Scott, T Quinlan, M Roberts, G Favalor

Meaning in past 4 weeks of football he has been in best players every week and kicked 17 goals playing from the midfield!

In a side note Josh Wallis was also listed in the best for 10A's.

That's bloody impressive. I wouldn't be unhappy using a 2nd round pick on him I don't think, which is what is most likely to happen if he keeps up these sort of performances.

Getting him with our last pick would be great though.

???? So he played Geelong on the 28th

Played against St Patricks on the 21st April

He also played Calder Cannons in the TAC cup on 21st of April

He played 2 games in one day, getting 3 goals 27 disposals in one and kicking 6 goals in the other ???

That's a pretty fair effort.
