Re: Lachlan Keefe

Keeffe has been terrific down back, and if anyone of us doubted his ability to succeed, they would be all too happy to feast on humble pie. He is good overhead, has excellent disposal and has even shown a deal of courage. We have at least one player who has significantly improved already this season.

Im eating it, and happy to do so. I hope he can keep stringing good games together, but I have been very happy with him since the NAB cup finished. Great stuff!

Re: Lachlan Keefe

He's been mighty impressive so far I have to say, I must admit that I was sceptical that such a large guy could have the agility to play in a key position defensive position.

I'm glad that a massive positive has come out of the season so far, and it's something to work with considering that if we can get all three of our other key defenders on the park we find ourselves with considerable flexibility.

Keeffe's kicking was a real feature, never knew he was so accomplished off either side. Really neat stuff and a few of our other more experienced defenders could learn a bit from the poise he showed.

Re: Lachlan Keefe

I don't see how supporters were able to overlook what a talented player Keefe has always been. Like KPP's of any size come in and dominate straight away. Him being 204cm just adds to the likelyhood of him taking the usual few years KPP's usually take to settle in at AFL level.

I have no doubts he'd win a foot race against anyone his height in the AFL, and the vast majority of players over 200cm. He's quick enough, intelligent, a good reader of the play and a great user. He looked outstanding to me two years ago in the NAB Cup. Last year people were writing him off for almost the exact same reasons people were writing Reid off when he debuted as a forward. Baffling to me. 204cm backmen with decent pace, good footy smarts and good disposal don't grow on trees.

Re: Lachlan Keefe

i was astounded by some of the negative posts about this kid during the pre season and im glad to see him performing at a good level

i think hes been terrific despite all the pressure on the backline

Looks to be a pretty solid backline of the future with Keefe, Brown and Reid all capable of holding down key positions. Id love to be able to release Reid onto a wing at times pumping the ball inside 50. WOuld really add another dimension to his game, without compromising the backline

Re: Lachlan Keefe

been a fan for a while, very happy to see him doing well. Defense is his spot, not forward.

He's improved his overhead marking massively in the last 2 years and is starting to get the confidence to play to his height, while still being quick and mobile.

The more we play him in the AFL the better he's going to get. Crisis creates opportunity. Lachie has grabbed it with both hands so far, well done son.

Re: Lachlan Keefe

Its good to see some of the early calls for few players have proven to be a bit harsh.
Ben Ried copped a bit, Keefe, Toovey also .. I am very hopeful that a similar thread will appear for Wood :thumbsu:

But yes Go Keefe you good thing

Re: Lachlan Keefe

What a bloody game by Keefey! I have said some exceptionally harsh things about him, but wow hasn't he just stood up and taken the backline by the scruff of the neck. His disposal has come along in absolute leaps and bounds.

Also loved his cheeky goal in the third with 1 second left on the clock!

Keep it up Lachy, I've been converted :D

Re: Lachlan Keefe

I have to say he is our saviour this season. With no Brown, Tarrent and now Reid, he is playing like a God. Our defense rests on his shoulders and he is taking it in strides. Hope he keeps it up!

Re: Lachlan Keefe

I bagged him in my post last week. I doubted he would be good enough to make it but Im prepared to give him some more time after todays performance :D

That was Seedsman, that cameras stuck with KKeeffee after the goal for ages, I think they may have been confused as well.

I think you know when a player is starting to make it when you go from shitting yourself when it goes in their general direction to actually feeling relieved asnd confident that hey are there.

He has had some fantatic one on one victories recently. In fact, has he lost any one on ones in the last couple of weeks?

Growing to love this kid! Sure he makes a few mistakes, but that's expected. Especially with only 9 games experience! He'll need time, but he's shown he can make it as a backman IMO.

Honestly so good has his form been I think when Reid/Brown/Tarrant come back into the side Buckley has some difficult decisions to make. I would not be surprised to see one of our backs switched forward allowing Dawes to play more third tall/ruck ala Browns real role. Its tough switching between ruck and true CHF. Brown was always played HFF. I think that role would really suit Dawes. He was better today at CHF (i.e higher up the ground) and Cloke deeper.

He has not put a foot wrong yet in 2012.

Rd 1 - In a high scoring contest he held Hale, who was in great form, goalless.
Rd 2 - Vickery was basically WOG, another victory to Keeffe.
Rd 3 - Arguably our best player in a forgettable game.
Rd 4 - Another quality game, some Reid-esque contested marks.

Seriously Keeffe would be a smoky to be leading the Copeland right now, may get votes in every game.

Keeffe earned his spot in the best 22 atm, Reid is a walk up start, and Tarrant can also play a medium / small role....but N.Brown could he go forward??

Yep, no concerns at all when the ball is coming in to a marking contest, he is doing excellent with that. He may get 2-3 matchups the whole season where he won't have the height advantage and his positioning is great so he shouldn't be prone to giving away too many frees.

He still has me anxious when he has possession other than from a mark and has to get around an opponent and/or make a quick decision on where and how to dispose of the ball. He has been excellent with this also, but there is just something about seeing such a big lad be in this position that gets me worried at times.

All credit to him, hopefully he keeps it up.

I have to agree with most of the opinions here. Unbelievable as our only real key defender.

One of the positives with injuries if u can unearth new players and we have a good one in lachy. Almost makes me less nervous if we did happen to lose Reid (i did say almost)

Similar story from me. Prior to round one I said I didn't think he'd ever make it.

And he has then gone on to make me eat my own words more with each passing round!

When Port kicked in to our 50 I found myself looking forward of the ball hoping Keefe was there. When he wasn't, I was worried. This is a far cry from the NAB cup or last year, I can tell you that.

There were also a couple of times in today's game where he would leave the pack and position himself in what I thought was an odd spot - I said to my mate 'where is he going?' only for the ball to end up coming straight to him from a shank or scrubber kick/handball. For this reason my mate and I are now convinced that he is psychic or a time traveller, having already seen where the ball will go.

Super stuff Keefe. Keep proving me wrong!

Keefe develops as a backmen, good. Reid develops as a forward, good. Dawes develops in the diamond valley league, good, its where he belongs. Please nathe try reid as a forward, anything but chris dAwes. Taz, brown, keefe down back. Cloke reid up forward. Make it happen.
