It shows that they had enough foresight to know that Smith might be cooked and they gave themselves an out. Then dunderhead Nicks decided Smith was "a big part of our future" and kept playing him.how was the trigger smart?

Or they could have not offered a trigger so the decision is purely theirs ay the end of the season, nobody else was going to swoop in and sign him.It shows that they had enough foresight to know that Smith might be cooked and they gave themselves an out. The trigger does not make it any more or less "their decision". A sober assessment of Smith's form was all that was needed to avoid this. We also can't know if he had other offers but the fact they offered a sweetner might imply there was some competition there.Or they could have not offered a trigger so the decision is purely theirs ay the end of the season, nobody else was going to swoop in and sign him.

It was already obviousWell, that's the end of Strachan's career, if it wasn't already obvious.
Not sure about that, telling we signed McAndrew before ROBLooks like we haven't got Draper then
I believe him to be AFL level....now that of course is quite a spectrum, but he can play!I haven’t seen McAndrew play - is he AFL level, potentially so or just a break glass option?
Would have been useful to give him a game or 2 to be sure before extending him.I believe him to be AFL level....now that of course is quite a spectrum, but he can play!
Yes from memory he was very competitive. Not sure what that says about him or more about ROB in internal trials. Was it our internal trial where McAndrew was more than competitive against Rob?
The footy dept must see something in his ability. He was very competitive against Reilly in the pre-season. It will be interesting to see his development from here.Good on him, looks a talent but only a backup. He has replaced Strawny. At 25 will he make a difference?
We need to grab a developing ruckman or an established one because I personally don’t think he’ll be better then Rob who is average himself
A bit of both i Guess. Perhaps Obrien needs a quality "potential" replacement to stir him out of his comfort zone.Yes from memory he was very competitive. Not sure what that says about him or more about ROB in internal trials.
I agree but it’s no long term solution and as we are competing for finals for a few years to come, we need a ruckman that can make us better. The footy dept must see something in his ability. Davis mentioned today that McAndrew's performances have brought the best out of ROB.Yes from memory he was very competitive. Not sure what that says about him or more about ROB in internal trials.

ROB has had a far better season, particularly of late... so may have a point now that he has decent competition... though should be self-motivated & never get comfortable.
About as good of an outcome as you can expect if you're McAndrew.
