I've fiddled around with the predictor and seen that we could finish on top and at worst we could finish 4th. So the guys have a lot to play for in the next month. The Sydney game is obviously the important one in determining our final ladder position.

I did it yesterday and the top 4 ended like this:

1. Hawthorn
2. Fremantle
3. Sydney
4. Geelong

Geelong finishing 4th because of a loss to the WCE. If we do win all our games though we are a good chance of finishing on top or 2nd, that's our aim.

If we win all 4 games we mathematically will finish top 2, because we stay ahead of Freo and pass Sydney.

Interesting article in the Herald Sun regarding which grounds (MCG & Etihad) could be used for finals IF 1, 2, 5 & 6 are taken up by Vic based teams:

The AFL is facing the distinct possibility of having four finals in Victoria in week one of September, meaning one game _ on the Saturday _ would have to be played at Docklands.....
...Sydney is currently second, but under a Herald Sun predicted final eight it slips to third by season's end.
Hawthorn is slated to play Fremantle in week one of the finals, while Geelong will play Sydney in the other qualifying final...
...Any game involving Collingwood and another Victorian side will be played at the MCG and likely on Sunday, September 9 given the Magpies play North Melbourne on the Sunday of Round 23.
While any game involving Sydney and a power Victorian club is also likely to be played at the MCG given the Swans propensity to draw higher crowds in Melbourne than Fremantle or Port Adelaide.
Hawthorn was angered last year when, as the minor premier, it was forced to play its preliminary final a day later than Sydney because ANZ Stadium was unavailable on the Saturday...
...The AFL determines the game best suited to Etihad Stadium based on the finishing position of the finalists and the capacity of each game to draw high crowds.

So, hopefully we finish 1 or 2 and are scheduled to play the Swans in week 1 because that would seem we get an MCG match which surely the guys are better suited for than an Etihad match - particularly an Etihad match against Freo. Would love to see Hawks vs Freo at Etihad, could make for an interesting finals series considering the record Ross Lyon's teams have at the stadium.

I wish we'd be up there, I just don't think so.
1. Hawthorn
2. Sydney
3. Geelong
3. Essendon

At least its better then last season when we were worried about missing the finals at this stage;)

I got us facing Fremantle on either the Friday or Saturday night @ the MCG
(redemption)

Thats what i get as well, it would be just so much easier if we win out and get that top 2 spot and play Freo or Sydney in Melbourne

I would love to play the Swans in Melbourne, and then send them over the other side to deal with the Hawks or Freo. Omnomnom

Talking about predictors. I just spent 10 minutes doing the Top 5 Ladder so far this season.

Team W L D % Pts
Geelong 5 0 125 20
Hawthorn 3 2 128 12
Swans 2 2 1 96 8
Essendon 1 3 72 4
Fremantle 0 4 1 75 2

I reckon this cannot be underestimated in it's importance. In 2011, most commentators said the Cats couldn't win because we just weren't in the form of the other top teams (Collingwood, St Kilda, Hawthorn etc), however, once we won the GF, everyone looked back and realised that the Cats had beaten every single contender that year.
Even though we look shaky, and I'm concerned about our rucks, I can't dismiss the stats that show we know how to beat our main contenders. That is glimmer of hope for September.

If we are to win the flag we have to win every game for the rest of the year.

If we lose to Sydney or WCE then we simply aren't good enough.

My big worry is Freo, with Sandilands back and us not having a no1 ruck they could beat us like they did last year with ruck dominance and fast leadup players.

I want it to rain in Melbourne every weekend in September. :) We would then be very hard to beat!

Why do I predict that if that were to be the case for the weather forecast, all of our matches, regardless of opponent would suddenly be played at Etihad under the roof?
The AFL will come out with some piss poor excuse of "got to keep the MCG surface in pristine condition prior to the grand final so can't risk playing too many games there at the moment".

EFA :D

How cool would it be if we played Hawthorn in the first week of the finals, beat them, and then they play Richmond in the 2nd week and lose that too?:D
