Well St Kilda seem to have Freo under control.

And look at their tactics.

We can beat Freo, but we will have to change our gameplan to do so.

When we play them in a couple of weeks will show if we are willing to.

Yeah that's the thing though. Scott just refuses to change tactics.

We will go into the Freo game exactly as we have done the last few times, nothing will change and we'll lose or come close to losing AGAIN.

St Kilda have handed us a very nice gift though. If we can manage to finish top 2 our bacon will have been saved massively. We do not want interstate travel in finals.

Last night was the first time in a long time that we played both McKintosh and Simpson. I don't think this is a regular set up, I think it's to give both a run. Reckon when we play Freo next it will be with either ruckmen not both. Wouldn't that be a change of tactics?

Its not impossible but each time we lose to freo its with the same tactics. We would have to make significant tactical changes and i have seen little evidence the players and coaches are willing to do so.
This. Can extend it to playing any team bar Hawthorn where for some reason we decide to regularly find our best. Whether it's the coaching or the players we have become an outrageously painful and arrogant unit that rarely learns from its mistakes. Players and coaches keep talking about need to get better and this and that then we trot the same rubbish out every week.

Our game plan works better against Hawthorn because they don't flood and they try to out-Geelong Geelong which doesn't work, plus we have them mentally most times.

Look we are good enough to beat a team like Freo in terms of talent, but we better bring a different game plan in a couple of weeks to what we usually do.

Just had a crack.

Sydney
Geelong
Hawthorn
Fremantle
Port Adelaide
Norf
Essendon
Adelaide

Could be the best first week of the finals in years.

Swans v Freo
Cats v Hawks
Port v Crows
Norf v Bombers

Week 2

Freo v Port
Hawks v Bombers

Week 3

Cats v Freo
Swans v Hawks

GF will be a repeat of the 1963 Grand Final. Cats to win.

very strong feeling we will see a brilliant performance next week against Fremantle. Massive statement game, need to hit them hard and really make sure that shock loss in the QF last year remains nothing more than a distant memory.
They got us earlier this year when we were missing multiple key personnel so this game will tell us a lot.

Win that and suddenly it's the Carlton or Brisbane matches we will need to worry about.

Yeah they've got no excuses at all. Pretty much full strength team, in good form, and coming off a very good win over North. If they can't beat Fremantle next week they never will.

I would be very happy if the ladder at the end of round 23 gives us Hawthorn in the QF, as strange as that sounds given how well they are playing I am much more confident of beating them than Freo or Sydney in a final (particularly if we have to play either interstate).

Clearly it would be helpful for us if Collingwood can beat Port tomorrow, because if Port lose tomorrow, and with Freo in the last round, it is very unlikely they make top 4, giving us some security that the lowest we are likely to finish is 4th.

Top 2 hinges on the Freo game next week-we will beat Carlton and Brisbane and I am reasonably confident about Hawthorn, so win all 4 and we finish 2nd.

The other interest in the ladder is 7th and 8th. I tend to think Essendon will grab one spot and Adelaide the other, but their loss today hurt big time. GC have an uphill battle from here but are still some chance, if Collingwood don't win tomorrow I think they will just miss the 8.

Reckon we're a good chance to win 1/2 out of Hawthorn and Freo which should leave us third.

Would be best to beat Freo and lose to hawks, weirdly enough.

1. Sydney 18-4
2. Hawthorn 17-5
3. Geelong 17-5
4. Fremantle 16-6
5. North Melbourne 14-8
6. Essendon 14-8
7. Port Adelaide 13-9
8. Collingwood 13-9

Finals Week 1:
Sydney def. Fremantle, ANZ Stadium
Geelong def. Hawthorn, MCG
North Melbourne def. Collingwood, MCG
Essendon def. Port Adelaide, Etihad

Finals Week 2:
Hawthorn def. Essendon, MCG
Fremantle def. North Melbourne, Patersons

Finals Week 3:
Sydney def. Hawthorn, ANZ
Geelong def. Fremantle, MCG

Grand Final:
Sydney vs. Geelong, MCG

Have us beating Freo next week and dropping the Hawks game. Carlton won't be a stroll in the park but we should win that if we're serious, and unlike last year Brisbane won't have anything to play for in Round 23.

Strangely enough, I'm confident we can account for both Freo and Hawfs in September. We have Hawthorn's measure, and if we run and spread similar to vs. North last night I honestly think Freo could struggle against us on the MCG (despite the 2012 final being held there). Not convinced regarding their flag credentials either.

Not sure about getting past Sydney unfortunately, even though we'll have something resembling a backline this time around.

If we do finish second , who would you prefer to play?

Its in our own hands isn't it. If drop one of the next 4 we are still a chance a Melb game the first week , but win them all its in our control. This week is another big one. Take 4 from Freo

If we do get to play Hawks w1 , its critical. Lose and we will probably match V Swans in Sydney IF we get thru to a Prelim.

Bump... Some funny shit in the first couple of pages. For a club that have continually found ways to finish top 4 pretty much my whole adult life- a lot of you guys are pesemistic and have very little faith in your team. Shame on you.... ahhahaha congrats on another good win on friday!

And therein lies the issue mate. Lots of us have seen the period before 07 - present. We know what Geelong was like 80's - 06.

And that is why we expect the worst.

GO Catters
