The sad thing is they won't be paid much - just like all the other sports.
Look at the Australian women's cricket team, soccer etc It's grossly unequal, despite their often greater success.

For me it's a strange concept, supporting a women's football team but I guess I'd follow them. I'm just glad it's not my daughter out there

Last year the club employed a dance troupe.

Surely a ladies team would have much more appeal than that!

Some thoughts about having a ladies team ...

- Creates curtain raiser opportunities.

- Imagine next year, sitting in the new social club building prior to a big MCG game and having a few cold beers, chatting to friends, and having the ladies go around on the Olympic Park oval in front of you. That'd be alright, yeah?

- This would be consistent with the stated objective of the new social club building being a community sports training facility with an emphasis on women's sports.

- Creates more entertainment options at corporate hospitality events (hearing the captain of the women's team talk about her experiences would be a novelty)

- Creates coaching opportunities. Consider the opportunities Caff had this year being a game-day VFL line coach. Having a ladies team would create more such opportunities for players with LTI, or in-house development opportunities for aspiring coaches.

- Imagine having a pre-season intra-club 'mixed AFL' game! It'd be similar to mixed netball in the way the girls would be playing on girls, and the lads would be playing on lads (ie: lads can't tackle the girls). Make it an annual event. Could become a novelty.

In seriousness, hope Collingwood get on this, I would watch every week. I know there's not enough talent for every team to have a women's division, but we're the biggest club there is ffs.

so just to be clear, when you say "talent" you're talking about football skills?

I think it would awesome if Collingwood fielded a women's team. Especially with our new training facilities and community centre. If we went all in we might even pick up a couple of early premierships while buckley scrubs it out in the bottom four, give us something to cheer about.

I stayed in a hotel with the Melbourne womens side which played the same weekend as the first Hawks/Swans match this year.
I breakfasted with a dozen or so and they were really switched on.
They were drawn together from all over Aus.
I thought it would be great to see a Pies side...
