This morning I checked the Sun for the teams (initially to check all my SuperCoach players were playing, and who should be not named in the Kanagroos team, but Aaron Edwards.
This is Aaron Edwards, the mature age full forward, recruited to the club as he was 'ready to play', and would fill the gap left by Rocca. Ok so far. Then Thompson has his knee wrecked by a season ending injury, and here comes round one. No Rocca, no Thompson......the full forward recruited to replace one of them, who was in the squad thank goodness when the second went down obviously named in the square....uhhhh no!
Why recruit a mature age full forward, and then not play him when you are minus two full forwards from last year's line up? Must be another gun full forward in the side? Nope......David Hale, a ruckman Kangaroos supporters will tell you is better than Seaby, playing at FF, while a noted crab in Brown takes up space at CHF (now because this is Bay 13 I know Kanga suporters will suddenly defend Brown, a quick look at their board will tell you what most Kanga supporters REALLY think of Brown)
So look through the side some more........
Riggio, Hansen, Thomas and Campbell all named, three of them starting on the ground. Look at the teams being named speculatively on the Kangaroos board, most teams contained maybe one or two of these names.
My thoughts, just so you can all crap on them..........
1. If anyone remembers the movie Major League, a baseball movie starring Charlie Sheen......remember the premise of the movie was the owners needed a bad enough losing season that crowds dropped and they could move the team to a different city...this is objective one here, one more bad season and no one in Melbourne is going to give a hoot about the blue and whites. Laidley's a Perth boy, he's probably looking forward to going back to a warm climate.
2. How does a coach keep his job after a season so bad the team gets moved? Play the kids ad hang your hat on that. Most Kangas fans would not have expected Riggio, Hansen, Thomas and Campbell to all play this week, particularly at the expense of Edwards, Watt and one or two others.
3. Net result....Kangas major tank in 07', move to Gold Coast, start their life on up north with the unveiling of an exciting "prize number one draft pick" and highly credentialled pre season pick as well who goes for the sunshine. While all this happens the Victorian side that finishes 15th will be working out how to get Judd, while the Kangas won't mind missing out on him by moving as they couldn't have afforded him anyway.
